Then I said, 'Behold, I have come to do your will, O God,' as it is written of me in the roll of the book." When he said above, "You did not desire, nor did you take pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings" (these are offered according to the law), then he said, "Behold, I have come to do your will." He takes away the first in order to establish the second. And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest stands daily at his service, offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when he had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until his enemies be made a stool for his feet. For by one offering he has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.

But how then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen in this way?"

And he said to them, "O foolish men, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and enter his glory?" And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them the things concerning himself in all the scriptures.

But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, he entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation. He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves, but he entered the holy place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? For this reason he is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.

For when every commandment of the law had been declared by Moses to all the people, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, saying, "This is the blood of the covenant which God has commanded you." read more.
And in the same way he sprinkled with the blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels used in worship. Indeed, under the law almost everything is cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. It was necessary, then, for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ did not enter a holy place made with hands, a copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us. Nor was it that he should offer himself again and again, as the high priest enters the holy place year by year with blood not his own. For then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But now, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And just as it is appointed for men to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to bear sin but to bring salvation to those who are eagerly waiting for him.

We have an altar from which those who serve the tabernacle have no right to eat.

For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him. And to him Abraham gave a tenth part of everything. He is first, by translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, that is, king of peace. Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, he remains a priest continually. read more.
See how great he was! Even the patriarch Abraham gave him a tenth of the spoils. And those descendants of Levi who receive the priestly office have a commandment in the law to take a tenth from the people, that is, from their brethren, though these also are descended from Abraham. But this man whose genealogy is not derived from them received a tenth from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. And without dispute the lesser person is blessed by the greater. In this case tithes are received by mortal men, but in that case by one of whom it is witnessed that he lives on. One might even say that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham, for he was still in the loins of his ancestor when Melchizedek met him. Now if perfection could have been through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the people received the Law), what further need was there for another priest to arise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not one designated according to the order of Aaron? For when there is a change of the priesthood, there must also be a change of the law. For the one of whom these things are spoken belonged to another tribe, from which no one has ever served at the altar. For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests. This becomes even more evident if another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek, who has become a priest not on the basis of a law of carnal requirement, but according to the power of an indestructible life. For it is declared of him, "You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek."

Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.
