He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; then he set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, 'Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.'
He said, "The one who showed mercy on him." And Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."
Now as they went on their way, he entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house.
But Martha was distracted with much serving; and she went to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me."
He was praying in a certain place, and when he ceased, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples."
And he said to them, "Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, 'Friend, lend me three loaves;
for a friend of mine has come to me on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him';
I tell you, though he will not get up and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as much as he needs.
For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent?
Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?
If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"
Others, testing him, sought from him a sign from heaven.
But when one stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him, he takes away his armor in which he trusted, and divides his spoils.
Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first."
As he said these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, "Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts that nursed you!"
While he was speaking, a Pharisee asked him to dine with him; so he went in and sat at table.
But the Lord said to him, "Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness.
One of the lawyers answered him, "Teacher, by saying these things you reproach us also."
As he went away from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him hard, and to provoke him to speak of many things,
lying in wait for him, to catch at something he might say.
But I will show you whom you should fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear him!
"I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God.
Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me."
But he said to him, "Man, who made me a judge or an arbitrator over you?"
But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have prepared?'
and be like men who are waiting for their master to return from the wedding feast, so that they may open to him immediately when he comes and knocks.
Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions.
the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him, and at an hour he is not aware of, and he will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.
But he who did not know, and committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask the more.
As you go with your adversary to the magistrate, make an effort to settle with him on the way, lest he drag you to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison.
There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
And he answered him, 'Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it.
Then the Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it?
When he said this, all his adversaries were put to shame; and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by him.
Then one said to him, "Lord, will those who are saved be few?" And he said to them,
At that very time some Pharisees came, and said to him, "Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you."
One Sabbath, when he went to dine at the house of a ruler who belonged to the Pharisees, they watched him.
And behold, there was a man before him who had dropsy.
But they kept silent. And he took him and healed him, and let him go.
Then he said to them, "Which of you, having a son or an ox that has fallen into a well, will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?"
"When you are invited by anyone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in a place of honor, lest one more distinguished than you be invited by him;
Then he also said to the one who invited him, "When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers, your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you back, and you be repaid.
When one of those who sat at table with him heard this, he said to him, "Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!"
Then he said to him, "A certain man gave a great banquet and invited many.
But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it. I ask you to have me excused.'
Now great multitudes went with him; and he turned and said to them,
Otherwise, when he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him,
Or what king, going to make war against another king, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?
It is neither fit for the land nor for the dunghill; men throw it out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"
Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him.
So he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed swine.
And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything.
I will arise and go to my father and will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you.
And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion for him, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.
And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.'
But the father said to his servants, 'Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet.
And he said to him, 'Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fatted calf, because he has received him safe and sound.'
But he was angry and refused to go in. So his father came out and pleaded with him.
But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your living with harlots, you killed for him the fatted calf!'
And he said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours.
He also said to his disciples: "There was a certain rich man who had a steward, and an accusation was brought to him that this man was wasting his goods.
So he called him and said to him, 'What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your stewardship, for you can no longer be steward.'
And he said, 'A hundred measures of oil.' So he said to him, 'Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.'
Then he said to another, 'And how much do you owe?' And he said, 'A hundred measures of wheat.' He said to him, 'Take your bill, and write eighty.'
The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all this, and they scoffed at him.
And he said, ' Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father's house,
Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.'
He said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced if some one should rise from the dead.'"
Then he said to his disciples, "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to him through whom they do come!
It would be better for him if a millstone were hung round his neck and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should cause one of these little ones to sin.
Take heed to yourselves; if your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him.
And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and turns to you seven times, and says, 'I repent,' you must forgive him."

And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.'
And will not God bring about justice for his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them?
Now they were also bringing infants to him that he might touch them; but when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
But Jesus called them to him and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God.
Now a certain ruler asked him, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"
So Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone.
When Jesus heard it, he said to him, "One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."
Jesus looked at him and said, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!
They will scourge him and kill him, and on the third day he will rise again."
And those who led the way rebuked him, telling him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!"
So Jesus stopped, and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he came near, he asked him,
And Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has made you well."
And immediately he received his sight and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.
So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was to pass that way.
And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, make haste and come down; for I must stay at your house today."
So he made haste and came down, and received him joyfully.
And Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham.
But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, 'We do not want this man to reign over us.'
