Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live sensibly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he who has called you is holy, so be holy in all manner of conduct; Because it is written, You will be holy; for I am holy.
For the time past of our life will suffice us to have done the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in licentiousness, lusts, excess of wine, reveling, carousing, and abominable idolatries: In which they think it strange that you run not with them to the same excess of dissipation, speaking evil of you:
For whoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.
And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to you. Holy Father, keep through your own name those whom you have given me, that they may be one, as we are.
As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
