'Hope' in the Bible
And if ye lend to those from whom ye hope to receive, what thank is it to you? for even sinners lend to sinners that they may receive the like.
Therefore has my heart rejoiced and my tongue exulted; yea more, my flesh also shall dwell in hope,
And her masters, seeing that the hope of their gains was gone, having seized Paul and Silas, dragged them into the market before the magistrates;
But Paul, knowing that the one part of them were of the Sadducees and the other of the Pharisees, cried out in the council, Brethren, I am a Pharisee, son of Pharisees: I am judged concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead.
having hope towards God, which they themselves also receive, that there is to be a resurrection both of just and unjust.
And now I stand to be judged because of the hope of the promise made by God to our fathers,
to which our whole twelve tribes serving incessantly day and night hope to arrive; about which hope, O king, I am accused of the Jews.
And neither sun nor stars appearing for many days, and no small storm lying on us, in the end all hope of our being saved was taken away.
For this cause therefore I have called you to me to see and to speak to you; for on account of the hope of Israel I have this chain about me.
who against hope believed in hope to his becoming father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be:
by whom we have also access by faith into this favour in which we stand, and we boast in hope of the glory of God.
and hope does not make ashamed, because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which has been given to us:
for the creature has been made subject to vanity, not of its will, but by reason of him who has subjected the same, in hope
For we have been saved in hope; but hope seen is not hope; for what any one sees, why does he also hope?
But if what we see not we hope, we expect in patience.
As regards hope, rejoicing: as regards tribulation, enduring: as regards prayer, persevering:
For as many things as have been written before have been written for our instruction, that through endurance and through encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope.
And again, Esaias says, There shall be the root of Jesse, and one that arises, to rule over the nations: in him shall the nations hope.
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that ye should abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
whenever I should go to Spain; (for I hope to see you as I go through, and by you to be set forward thither, if first I shall have been in part filled with your company;)
or does he say it altogether for our sakes? For for our sakes it has been written, that the plougher should plough in hope, and he that treads out corn, in hope of partaking of it.
And now abide faith, hope, love; these three things; and the greater of these is love.
If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are the most miserable of all men.
For I will not see you now in passing, for I hope to remain a certain time with you, if the Lord permit.
(and our hope for you is sure;) or whether we are encouraged, it is for your encouragement and salvation: knowing that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so also of the encouragement.
For we do not write other things to you but what ye well know and recognise; and I hope that ye will recognise to the end,
Having therefore such hope, we use much boldness:
Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord we persuade men, but have been manifested to God, and I hope also that we have been manifested in your consciences.
not boasting out of measure in other people's labours, but having hope, your faith increasing, to be enlarged amongst you, according to our rule, yet more abundantly
Now I hope that ye will know that we are not reprobates.
For we, by the Spirit, on the principle of faith, await the hope of righteousness.
being enlightened in the eyes of your heart, so that ye should know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
that ye were at that time without Christ, aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
There is one body and one Spirit, as ye have been also called in one hope of your calling;
according to my earnest expectation and hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but in all boldness, as always, now also Christ shall be magnified in my body whether by life or by death.
But I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus to you shortly, that I also may be refreshed, knowing how ye get on.
Him therefore I hope to send immediately, as soon as I shall see how it goes with me:
on account of the hope which is laid up for you in the heavens; of which ye heard before in the word of the truth of the glad tidings,
if indeed ye abide in the faith founded and firm, and not moved away from the hope of the glad tidings, which ye have heard, which have been proclaimed in the whole creation which is under heaven, of which I Paul became minister.
to whom God would make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the nations, which is Christ in you the hope of glory:
remembering unceasingly your work of faith, and labour of love, and enduring constancy of hope, of our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father;
For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of boasting? are not ye also before our Lord Jesus at his coming?
But we do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them that are fallen asleep, to the end that ye be not grieved even as also the rest who have no hope.
but we being of the day, let us be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as helmet the hope of salvation;
But our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us, and given us eternal consolation and good hope by grace,
Paul, apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the command of God our Saviour, and of Christ Jesus our hope,
for, for this we labour and suffer reproach, because we hope in a living God, who is preserver of all men, specially of those that believe.
Now she who is a widow indeed, and is left alone, has put her hope in God, and continues in supplications and prayers night and day.
in the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the ages of time,
awaiting the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ;
that, having been justified by his grace, we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
But withal prepare me also a lodging; for I hope that I shall be granted to you through your prayers.
but Christ, as Son over his house, whose house are we, if indeed we hold fast the boldness and the boast of hope firm to the end.
But we desire earnestly that each one of you shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end;
that by two unchangeable things, in which it was impossible that God should lie, we might have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to lay hold on the hope set before us,
(for the law perfected nothing,) and the introduction of a better hope by which we draw nigh to God.
Let us hold fast the confession of the hope unwavering, (for he is faithful who has promised;)
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who, according to his great mercy, has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from among the dead,
Wherefore, having girded up the loins of your mind, be sober and hope with perfect stedfastness in the grace which will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
who by him do believe on God, who has raised him from among the dead and given him glory, that your faith and hope should be in God.
but sanctify the Lord the Christ in your hearts, and be always prepared to give an answer to every one that asks you to give an account of the hope that is in you, but with meekness and fear;
And every one that has this hope in him purifies himself, even as he is pure.
Having many things to write to you, I would not with paper and ink; but hope to come to you, and to speak mouth to mouth, that our joy may be full.
but I hope soon to see thee, and we will speak mouth to mouth. Peace be to thee. The friends greet thee. Greet the friends by name.
