Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done; and he was perplexed, because it was said by some that John had been raised from the dead,

And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his robe became white and glistening.

And they were all amazed at the majesty of God. But while everyone was marveling at all that Jesus did, he said to his disciples,
But they did not understand this saying, and it was hidden from them so that they did not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.
but the people did not receive him, because his face was set for Jerusalem.
After this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go.
At that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Yes, Father, for so it was your good pleasure.
Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him of his clothing, beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side.
But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was; and when he saw him, he had compassion.
Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?"
But Martha was distracted with much serving; and she went to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me."
He was praying in a certain place, and when he ceased, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples."
Now he was casting out a demon that was mute. So it was, when the demon had gone out, that the mute man spoke; and the multitudes marveled.
While he was speaking, a Pharisee asked him to dine with him; so he went in and sat at table.
The Pharisee was surprised to see that he did not first wash before dinner.
that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation,
Consider the lilies, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour till it was all leavened."
And behold, there was a man before him who had dropsy.
saying, 'This man began to build, and was not able to finish.'
And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost.'
And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion for him, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.
for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' And they began to be merry.
"Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing.
But he was angry and refused to go in. So his father came out and pleaded with him.
It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.'"
He also said to his disciples: "There was a certain rich man who had a steward, and an accusation was brought to him that this man was wasting his goods.
"There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and feasted sumptuously every day.
And a certain beggar named Lazarus was laid at his gate, full of sores,
So the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.
Does he thank the servant because he did what he was commanded?
So you also, when you have done all that is commanded you, say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.'"
On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee.
Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice;
and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. And he was a Samaritan.
Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?"
Now when he was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, "The kingdom of God does not come with observation;
Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man.
Likewise as it was in the days of Lot: they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built;
He said: "In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor regarded man.
And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.'
But when he heard this, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich.
But they understood none of these things; this saying was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about.
As he drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging.
Now behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector, and he was rich.
And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature.
So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was to pass that way.
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost."
As they heard these things, he went on to tell a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God was to appear immediately.
And so it was that when he returned, having received the kingdom, he then commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by trading.
for I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take up what you did not lay down, and reap what you did not sow.'
He said to him, 'I will judge you out of your own mouth, you wicked servant! You knew that I was a hard man, taking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow?
And, as he was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen,
And he was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests the scribes and the leaders of the people sought to destroy him,
One day as he was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes, together with the elders, came up to him
But if we say, 'From men,' all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet."
So they answered that they did not know where it was from.
And as some spoke of the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and offerings, he said,
And every day he was teaching in the temple, but at night he went out to spend the night on the mount called Olivet.
Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, who was numbered of the twelve.
Then they began to question among themselves, which of them it was who would do this.
A dispute also arose among them, which of them was to be considered the greatest.
For I tell you that this scripture must be fulfilled in me, 'And he was numbered with transgressors'; for what is written about me has its fulfillment."
He came out, and went to the Mount of Olives, as was his custom, and his disciples followed him.
While he was still speaking, a crowd came, and the man who was called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him;
When those around him saw what was going to happen, they said, "Lord, shall we strike with the sword?"
When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness."
And a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight, looked at him, and said, "This man also was with him."
Then after about an hour had passed, another insisted, saying, "Certainly this fellow also was with him, for he is a Galilean."
But Peter said, "Man, I do not know what you are saying!" Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.
As soon as it was day, the council of the elders of the people came together, both chief priests and scribes; and they led him away to their council chamber, saying,
When Pilate heard this, he asked if the man was a Galilean.
And when he learned that he belonged to Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who also was in Jerusalem at that time.
Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was very glad, for he had desired to see him for a long time, because he had heard about him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by him.
and said to them, "You have brought this man to me as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. And behold, having examined him in your presence, I have found no guilt in this man concerning those charges which you make against him;
And as they led him away, they seized one Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it behind Jesus.
There was also an inscription written over him: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour,
for the sun was darkened; and the curtain of the temple was torn in two.
Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he praised God, and said, "Certainly this was a righteous man!"
Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and righteous man,
who had not consented to their decision and deed. He came from of Arimathea, a city of the Jews, and he was waiting for the kingdom of God.
Then he took it down and wrapped it in linen cloth, and laid it in a tomb that was hewn out of the rock, where no one had ever yet been laid.
It was the Preparation Day, and the Sabbath was about to begin.
The women who had come with him from Galilee followed and saw the tomb, and how his body was laid.
He is not here, but is risen! Remember how he told you while he was still in Galilee,
It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them, who told this to the apostles.
