But after two years, Felix was succeeded by Portius Festus: and Felix desiring to gratify the Jews, left Paul bound.
Now when Festus was come into the province, after three days he went up from Cesarea to Jerusalem.
And when he was come, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem, stood round about him, bringing many and heavy accusations against Paul, which they were not able to prove:
About whom when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and elders of the Jews informed me, desiring judgment against him.
But had certain questions against him, relating to their own religious worship, and about one Jesus that was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.
And on the morrow, when Agrippa was come and Bernice with great pomp, and were entered into the place of audience, with the tribunes and principal men of the city, at the command of Festus, Paul was brought forth.
The manner of my life from my youth which was from the beginning among my own nation at Jerusalem,
From that time, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision,
And as he was thus making his defence, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself, much learning doth make thee mad.
For the king knoweth of these things; to whom also I speak with freedom; for I am persuaded none of these things are hidden from him; for this was not done in a corner.
And as soon as it was determined, that we should sail into Italy, they delivered Paul, and certain other prisoners, to a centurion named Julius, of the Augustan Cohort.
And going aboard a ship of Adramyttium, that was to sail by the coasts of Asia, we set sail, Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.
And passing it with difficulty, we came to the Fair Havens, near which was the city Lasea.
And as much time was spent, and sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was already past,
And as the haven was not convenient to winter in, the greater part advised to set sail from thence also, if by any means they might reach Phenice, to winter there, which is an haven of Crete looking to the south-west and north-west.
And as neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope of our being saved was then taken away.
And when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven up and down in the Adriatic Sea, the sailors suspected, that they drew nigh some land.
And while the day was coming on, Paul exhorted them all to take food, saying, This day is the fourteenth that ye have tarried and continue fasting, having taken nothing.
And when it was day, they did not know the land; but they observed a certain creek having a shore, into which they were minded, if possible, to thrust the ship:
But falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship a ground; and the fore-part sticking fast, remained immovable, but the hinder-part was broken by the force of the waves.
And the counsel of the soldiers was, to kill the prisoners, lest any one should swim away and escape.
Now as Paul was gathering a bundle of sticks, and laying them on the fire, a viper coming from the heat, fastened upon his hand.
However they expected, that he would have swollen, or suddenly fallen down dead: but after having waited a considerable time, seeing no mischief befall him, they changed their minds and said, that he was a god.
And near that place was the estate of the chief man of the island, named Publius, who receiving us into his house, entertained us courteously three days.
And when this was done, the rest also in the island who had disorders,
And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the island, whose sign was Castor and Pollux.
And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself, with the soldier that kept him.
Who having examined me, were willing to have released me, because there was no cause of death in me.
But when the Jews opposed it, I was constrained to appeal to Cesar; not that I had any thing to accuse my nation of.
who was of the seed of David, according to the flesh, But declared the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead,
Because knowing God, they did not glorify him as God, neither were thankful, but became vain in their reasonings, and their foolish heart was darkened.
If Abraham was justified by works, he hath whereof to glory: but he hath not in the sight of God.
For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was imputed to him for righteousness.
Cometh this happiness then on the circumcision only, or on the uncircumcision also? For we say that faith was imputed to Abraham for righteousness.
How was it then imputed? When he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.
For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham or to his seed by the law, but by the righteousness of faith.
Who against hope believed in hope, that he should be the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.
He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,
And being fully assured, that what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
Now it was not written on his account only, that it was imputed to him,
Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
For until the law, sin was in the world; but sin is not imputed, where there is no law.
Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the likeness of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
And not as the loss by one that sinned, so is the gift; for the sentence was by one offence to condemnation; but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death, that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we also should walk in newness of life.
Thus ye also, my brethren, are dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye might be married to another, even to him who was raised from the dead, that we may bring forth fruit to God.
But sin taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of desire: for without the law sin was dead.

sin revived, and I died, And the commandment, which was intended for life, this I found unto death.
