For an overseer must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not full of passion, not given to wine, not quarrelsome, not greedy for ill gain;

whose mouth you must stop, who subvert whole houses, teaching things not right for the sake of ill gain.

Remind your hearers to respect and obey the Powers that be, to be ready for every kind of good work, to speak ill of no one, to avoid quarreling,

gravity; let your doctrine be sound and inoffensive, that your opponents may be ashamed, and have nothing that is ill to say of us.

to be sober, domestic, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not ill reported of.
