'Though' in the Bible
There is a person without a companion, without even a son or brother, and though there is no end to all his struggles, his eyes are still not content with riches. “So who am I struggling for,” he asks, “and depriving myself from good?” This too is futile and a miserable task.
For he came from prison to be king, even though he was born poor in his kingdom.
Though a stillborn child does not see the sun and is not conscious, it has more rest than he.
For every activity there is a right time and procedure, even though man’s troubles are heavy on him.
When I applied my mind to know wisdom and to observe the activity that is done on the earth (even though one’s eyes do not close in sleep day or night),
I observed all the work of God and concluded that man is unable to discover the work that is done under the sun. Even though a man labors hard to explore it, he cannot find it; even if the wise man claims to know it, he is unable to discover it.
“Come, let us discuss this,”says the Lord.“Though your sins are like scarlet,they will be as white as snow;though they are as red as crimson,they will be like wool.
Though a tenth will remain in the land,it will be burned again.Like the terebinth or the oakthat leaves a stump when felled,the holy seed is the stump.
Therefore, the Lord God of Hosts says this: “My people who dwell in Zion, do not fear Assyria, though he strikes you with a rod and raises his staff over you as the Egyptians did.
Bread grain is crushed,but is not threshed endlessly.Though the wheel of the farmer’s cart rumbles,his horses do not crush it.
For though his princes are at Zoanand his messengers reach as far as Hanes,
Though seeing many things, you do not obey.Though his ears are open, he does not listen.”
I call you by your name,because of Jacob My servantand Israel My chosen one.I give a name to you,though you do not know Me.
I am Yahweh, and there is no other;there is no God but Me.I will strengthen you,though you do not know Me,
Though the mountains moveand the hills shake,My love will not be removed from youand My covenant of peace will not be shaken,”says your compassionate Lord.
We grope along a wall like the blind;we grope like those without eyes.We stumble at noon as though it were twilight;we are like the dead among those who are healthy.
Yet You are our Father,even though Abraham does not know usand Israel doesn’t recognize us.You, Yahweh, are our Father;from ancient times,Your name is our Redeemer.
Though she is beautiful and delicate,I will destroy Daughter Zion.
Even your brothers—your own father’s household—even they were treacherous to you;even they have cried out loudly after you.Do not have confidence in them,though they speak well of you.
Though our guilt testifies against us,Yahweh, act for Your name’s sake.Indeed, our rebellions are many;we have sinned against You.
“Therefore, this is what the Lord says concerning the prophets who prophesy in My name, though I did not send them, and who say, ‘There will never be sword or famine in this land.’ By sword and famine these prophets will meet their end.
“As I live,” says the Lord, “though you, Coniah son of Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, were a signet ring on My right hand, I would tear you from it.
and by listening to the words of My servants the prophets I have been sending you time and time again, though you did not listen,
“Send a message to all the exiles, saying: This is what the Lord says concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite. Because Shemaiah prophesied to you, though I did not send him, and made you trust a lie,
This one will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt—a covenant they broke even though I had married them”—the Lord’s declaration.
Yet You, Lord God, have said to me: Buy the field with silver and call in witnesses—even though the city has been handed over to the Chaldeans!”
They have turned their backs to Me and not their faces. Though I taught them time and time again, they do not listen and receive discipline.
Even though Elnathan, Delaiah, and Gemariah had urged the king not to burn the scroll, he would not listen to them.
They will cut down her forest—this is the Lord’s declaration—though it is dense,for they are more numerous than locusts;they cannot be counted.
As to the terror you cause,your presumptuous heart has deceived you.You who live in the clefts of the rock,you who occupy the mountain summit,though you elevate your nest like the eagle,even from there I will bring you down.This is the Lord’s declaration.
For Israel and Judah are not left widowedby their God, the Lord of Hosts,though their land is full of guiltagainst the Holy One of Israel.
Then the city was broken into, and all the warriors fled. They left the city by night by way of the gate between the two walls near the king’s garden, though the Chaldeans surrounded the city. They made their way along the route to the Arabah.
“But you, son of man, do not be afraid of them or their words, though briers and thorns are beside you and you live among scorpions. Don’t be afraid of their words or be discouraged by the look on their faces, for they are a rebellious house.
I have made your forehead like a diamond, harder than flint. Don’t be afraid of them or discouraged by the look on their faces, even though they are a rebellious house.”
Therefore I will respond with wrath. I will not show pity or spare them. Though they cry out in My ears with a loud voice, I will not listen to them.”
“Therefore say: This is what the Lord God says: Though I sent them far away among the nations and scattered them among the countries, yet for a little while I have been a sanctuary for them in the countries where they have gone.
“Son of man, get your bags ready for exile and go into exile in their sight during the day. You will go into exile from your place to another place while they watch; perhaps they will understand, though they are a rebellious house.
Didn’t you see a false vision and speak a lying divination when you proclaimed, ‘This is the Lord’s declaration,’ even though I had not spoken?
Because you have disheartened the righteous person with lies, even though I have not caused him grief, and because you have encouraged the wicked person not to turn from his evil way to save his life,
Then you engaged in prostitution with the Assyrian men because you were not satisfied. Even though you did this with them, you were still not satisfied.
Even though it is planted, will it flourish?Won’t it completely witherwhen the east wind strikes it?It will wither on the bed where it sprouted.”
He despised the oath by breaking the covenant. He did all these things even though he gave his hand in pledge. He will not escape!”
though the father has done none of them. Indeed, when the son eats at the mountain shrines and defiles his neighbor’s wife,
“Now suppose he has a son who sees all the sins his father has committed, and though he sees them, he does not do likewise.
“Oholah acted like a prostitute even though she was Mine. She lusted after her lovers, the Assyrians: warriors
“Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre: This is what the Lord God says:Your heart is proud,and you have said, ‘I am a god;I sit in the seat of godsin the heart of the sea.’Yet you are a man and not a god,though you have regarded your heartas that of a god.
“But your people say, ‘The Lord’s way isn’t fair,’ even though it is their own way that isn’t fair.
“Because you said, ‘These two nations and two lands will be mine, and we will possess them’—though the Lord was there—
You saw the feet and toes, partly of a potter’s fired clay and partly of iron—it will be a divided kingdom, though some of the strength of iron will be in it. You saw the iron mixed with clay,
“But you his successor, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, even though you knew all this.
Compassion and forgiveness belong to the Lord our God, though we have rebelled against Him
“In his place one will arise who will send out a tax collector for the glory of the kingdom; but within a few days he will be shattered, though not in anger or in battle.
Then the Lord said to me, “Go again; show love to a woman who is loved by another man and is an adulteress, just as the Lord loves the Israelites though they turn to other gods and love raisin cakes.”
Woe to them, for they fled from Me;destruction to them, for they rebelled against Me!Though I want to redeem them,they speak lies against Me.
Even though they hire lovers among the nations,I will now round them up,and they will begin to decrease in numberunder the burden of the king and leaders.
Though I were to write out for himten thousand points of My instruction,they would be regarded as something strange.
Though they offer sacrificial giftsand eat the flesh,the Lord does not accept them.Now He will remember their guiltand punish their sins;they will return to Egypt.
My people are bent on turning from Me.Though they call to Him on high,He will not exalt them at all.
As you have drunk on My holy mountain,so all the nations will drink continually.They will drink and gulp downand be as though they had never been.
Though the residents of Marothanxiously wait for something good,disaster has come from the Lordto the gate of Jerusalem.
Though all the peoples each walkin the name of their gods,we will walk in the name of Yahweh our Godforever and ever.
Do not rejoice over me, my enemy!Though I have fallen, I will stand up;though I sit in darkness,the Lord will be my light.
This is what the Lord says:Though they are strong and numerous,they will still be mowed down,and he will pass away.Though I have afflicted you,I will afflict you no longer.
For the Lord will restore the majesty of Jacob,yes, the majesty of Israel,though ravagers have ravaged themand ruined their vine branches.
For the vision is yet for the appointed time;it testifies about the end and will not lie.Though it delays, wait for it,since it will certainly come and not be late.
Though the fig tree does not budand there is no fruit on the vines,though the olive crop failsand the fields produce no food,though there are no sheep in the penand no cattle in the stalls,
The Lord of Hosts says this: “Though it may seem incredible to the remnant of this people in those days, should it also seem incredible to Me?”—this is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts.
and also against Hamath, which borders it,as well as Tyre and Sidon,though they are very shrewd.
I will strengthen the house of Judahand deliver the house of Joseph.I will restore thembecause I have compassion on them,and they will beas though I had never rejected them.For I am Yahweh their God,and I will answer them.
Though I sow them among the nations,they will remember Me in the distant lands;they and their children will live and return.
Though Edom says: “We have been devastated, but we will rebuild the ruins,” the Lord of Hosts says this: “They may build, but I will demolish. They will be called a wicked country and the people the Lord has cursed forever.
Yet you ask, “For what reason?” Because the Lord has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth. You have acted treacherously against her, though she was your marriage partner and your wife by covenant.
Though he wanted to kill him, he feared the crowd, since they regarded him as a prophet.
But they could not find any, even though many false witnesses came forward. Finally, two who came forward
Though the king was deeply distressed, because of his oaths and the guests he did not want to refuse her.
But Jesus said to them, “Have you come out with swords and clubs, as though I were a criminal, to capture Me?
I tell you, even though he won’t get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his friend’s persistence, he will get up and give him as much as he needs.
“For a while he was unwilling, but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or respect man,
When the chief servant tasted the water (after it had become wine), he did not know where it came from—though the servants who had drawn the water knew. He called the groom
(though Jesus Himself was not baptizing, but His disciples were),
Even though He had performed so many signs in their presence, they did not believe in Him.

Though Paul wanted to go in before the people, the disciples did not let him.
“The Jews,” he said, “have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down to the Sanhedrin tomorrow, as though they are going to hold a somewhat more careful inquiry about him.

When the local people saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “This man is probably a murderer, and though he has escaped the sea, Justice does not allow him to live!”
Because the Jews objected, I was compelled to appeal to Caesar; it was not as though I had any accusation against my nation.
For though they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God or show gratitude. Instead, their thinking became nonsense, and their senseless minds were darkened.
So, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, instinctively do what the law demands, they are a law to themselves even though they do not have the law.
