Abraham had a son named Isaac; Isaac had a son named Jacob and Jacob's sons were Judah and his [eleven] brothers.
Judah had sons named Perez and Zarah, [whose mother was] Tamar. Perez had a son named Hezron; Hezron had a son named Aram;
Aram had a son named Amminadab; Amminadab had a son named Nahshon; Nahshon had a son named Salmon;
Salmon had a son named Boaz [whose mother was] Rahab; Boaz had a son named Obed [whose mother was] Ruth; Obed had a son named Jesse,
and Jesse begat David the king. And David begat Solomon, of her that had been the wife of Urias;

And Zerubbabel had Abiud; and Abiud had Eliakim; and Eliakim had Azor;
And Eliud had Eleazar; and Eleazar had Matthan; and Matthan had Jacob;
Jacob had a son named Joseph, who was the husband of Mary. Mary [alone] was the mother of Jesus, who is called the Christ.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ occurred in this way. His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, [but] before they came together, she was found {to be pregnant} by the Holy Spirit.
And Joseph, her husband, being an upright man, and not desiring to make her a public example, had a mind to put her away privately.
But, when, these things, he had pondered, lo! a messenger of the Lord, by dream, appeared to him, saying, - Joseph, son of David! do not fear to take unto thee Mary thy wife, for, that which, in her, hath been begotten, is of the , Holy, Spirit.
Now all this occurred to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:
But Joseph, having awoke up from his sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had enjoined him, and took to him his wife,
and knew her not until she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus.
After Jesus had been born in Bethlehem of Judea during the reign of King Herod, wise men arrived in Jerusalem from the east
When Herod the king had heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
And when he had assembled all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where Christ should be born.
Then Herod, when he had privately called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
[After] they listened to the king, they went out, and behold, the star which they had seen at its rising led them until it came [and] stood above [the place] where the child was.
And when they had come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshiped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented to him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
Then, as they had been divinely warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they set out to their own country by another route.
Now [after] they had gone away, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph, saying, "Get up, take the child and his mother and flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you. For Herod is about to seek the child to destroy him."
he stayed there until Herod's death, so as to fulfill what the Lord had said by the prophet, "Out of Egypt I called my Son."
Then Herod, [when he] saw that he had been deceived by the wise men, became very angry, and he sent [soldiers] [and] executed all the children in Bethlehem and in all the region [around] it from [the age of] two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined precisely from the wise men.
Then what had been spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled:
Now [after] Herod had died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
"Get up, take the young child and His mother, and go [back] to the country of Israel, for those who had tried to take the young child's life are [now] dead."
but when he heard that Archelaus reigned in Judea, in the room of his father Herod, he was apprehensive of going thither, till having had a divine warning in a dream, he retired into the district of Galilee:
He came to a town called Nazareth and lived there. Then what had been spoken by the prophets was fulfilled, that Jesus would be called a Nazarene.
For he is the one about whom Isaiah the prophet had spoken: "The voice of one shouting in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make his paths straight.'"
Now John himself had his clothing made from camel's hair and a belt made of leather around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey.
And they were given baptism by him in the river Jordan, saying openly that they had done wrong.
And Jesus, when He had been baptized, went up immediately out of the water. And lo, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting upon Him.
and [after he] had fasted forty days and forty nights, then he was hungry.
Then the devil took Him into the holy city, and had Him stand on the tip-top turret of the temple,
Now [when he] heard that John {had been arrested}, he withdrew into Galilee.
whereby those words of Esaias the prophet, had their full effect, "the land of Zabulon,
And his fame spread abroad throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and gripings, and them that were possessed with devils and those which were lunatic and those that had the palsy: and he healed them.
When He saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain. After He had taken His seat, His disciples came up to Him.
"I tell you truly that you would certainly not get out from there until you had paid back the last cent.
But I say to you that everyone whose eyes are turned on a woman with desire has had connection with her in his heart.
But I say to you, every person who divorces his wife makes her become sexually unfaithful to him [i.e., since she will probably marry someone else], unless the reason for the divorce is that she had [already] become sexually unfaithful to him. And whoever marries a woman who has been divorced commits sexual sin with her [i.e., because she is still rightfully married to her first husband].
And then will I say to them, I never had knowledge of you: go from me, you workers of evil.
and the rain came down, and the streams came, and the winds blew and fell upon that house, and it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock.
And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were astonished at his doctrine,
because he was teaching them like one who had authority, and not like their scribes.
And when he had come down from the mountain, great crowds followed him.
And when he had entered into Capernaum, a centurion came to him, beseeching him,
Then Jesus said to the captain, "Go; as you have had faith, your prayer is granted." And the servant was cured at that very hour.
And when Jesus had come to Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law laid down and in a fever;
When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were under the power of demons, and at a mere word He drove the spirits out, and cured all who were sick,
Seeing great crowds about Him Jesus had given directions to cross to the other side of the Lake,
And when he had entered into a boat, his disciples followed him.
And when he had come to the other side, into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with demons, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.
And he said to them, Go. And when they had come out, they went into the herd of swine: and behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.
But they that fed them fled, and went away into the city and related everything, and what had happened as to those possessed by demons.
At once all the citizens came out to meet Jesus; and when they had seen him, they begged him to move away from their country.
And they took to him a man stretched on a bed who had no power of moving; and Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the man who was ill, Son, take heart; you have forgiveness for your sins.
But [when] the crowds saw [this], they were afraid and glorified God who had given such authority to men.
Jesus was at table indoors, and many taxgatherers and sinners had come to be guests with him and his disciples.
And behold, a woman who had been suffering with a hemorrhage twelve years approached from behind [and] touched the edge of his cloak,
For she had said to herself, "If I can just touch His robe, I will be healed."
Now when Jesus had come into the house of the ruler, and had seen the flute-players and the wailing crowd, he said,
But when the crowd had been sent out, he entered [and] took her hand, and the girl got up.
After He had gone into the house, and the blind men had gone up to Him, Jesus said to them, "Do you really believe that I can do this?" They said to Him, "Yes, Lord."
and they had their sight: but Jesus gave them a strict charge, saying, take care not to let any man know it:
But they, when they had departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country.
And when they had gone away, behold, the people brought to him a man, a dumb demoniac.
And [after] the demon had been expelled, the one who had been mute spoke, and the crowds were astonished, saying, "{This has never been seen before} in Israel!"
And [when he] saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were weary and dejected, like sheep that did not have a shepherd.
And when he had called to him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness, and all manner of disease.
These twelve Jesus sent out when he had charged them, saying, Go not off into the way of the nations, and into a city of Samaritans enter ye not;
Have no fear of those who kill the body, but cannot kill the soul. You had better be afraid of one who can destroy both soul and body in the pit.
And it happened that when Jesus had finished giving orders to his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and to preach in their towns.
Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
And when they had gone, Jesus began to say to the multitudes, concerning John, What went you out to the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
Then he began to reproach the towns in which the majority of his miracles had been done, because they did not repent:
"Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? No, you will be brought down to Hades! For if the miracles done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until today.
But he said to them, Have you no knowledge of what David did when he had need of food, and those who were with him?
But I say to you, That one greater than the temple is here. And if ye had known what that meaneth,
And if you had known what {it means}, 'I want mercy and not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the guiltless.
And when he had departed thence, he went into their synagogue.
And behold, [there was] a man who had a withered hand, and they asked him, saying, "Is it permitted to heal on the Sabbath?" in order that they could accuse him.
And he said unto them, "Which of you would it be, if he had a sheep fallen into a pit on the Sabbath day, that would not take him and lift him out?
Then he said to the man. "Stretch out your hand." The man stretched it out; and it had become as sound as the other.
The man stretched it out, and it had become sound like the other. But when the Pharisees came out, they consulted together how they might destroy him.
charging them strictly not to make him known ??17 it was for the fulfilment of what had been said by the prophet Isaiah,
Then they took to him one with an evil spirit, who was blind and had no power of talking: and he made him well so that he had the power of talking and seeing.
And I say to you, a person will [have to] give an account [to God] on the day of judgment for every careless word he had spoken [while on earth].
And while he was yet speaking to the multitudes, lo, his mother and brethren had stood without, seeking to speak to him,
To the one who had said this, Jesus replied, "Who is my mother and who are my brothers?"
