A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed.
A man's spirit will endure sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear?
Where are we going up? Our brothers have made our hearts melt, saying, "The people are greater and taller than we. The cities are great and fortified up to heaven. And besides, we have seen the sons of the Anakim there."'
Why will you discourage the heart of the people of Israel from going over into the land that the LORD has given them?
For he did not remember to show kindness, but pursued the poor and needy and the brokenhearted, to put them to death.
Therefore my judgment is that we should not trouble those of the Gentiles who turn to God,
Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body.
For the wound of the daughter of my people is my heart wounded; I mourn, and dismay has taken hold on me.
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
