if it be the ministry, let him attend on that ministry; and he that teacheth, on teaching; he that exhorteth,

thus fitly qualifying his servants for their respective offices, in order to build up the body of Christ:

and there are different offices, but the same Lord.

for as there are many members in one and the same body, but all the members have not the same office:

for such as these serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own selfishness; and by flourish and flattery, deceive the open-hearted simple.

Thus you are the body of Christ, being the particular members of it.

For as the body is one, tho' it has many members, and all the members of that one body, tho' many, are one body: so also is the body of Christ.

besides these troubles from without, that which crouds upon me daily, the care of all the churches.

of which I have been established a minister, according to the charge which God has given me to preach his gospel faithfully among you. ---

let them be first examin'd, and if they are without reproach, let them enter upon their office.

for if a man is incapable of governing his own family, how can he take care of the church of God?

if the foot should say, "because I am not the hand, I am not of the body;" is it therefore not of the body?

now to particular men the spirit gives particular gifts, that they may be displayed to greater advantage.

for God is not the God of confusion, but of peace, in all christian assemblies.

for now is the time when God will begin his judgments with his own church. now if he begins with us, what will the conclusion be to those who do not obey the divine gospel?

as good economists of the different dispensations of God, communicate to one another the gifts you have receiv'd.

the twelve therefore assembled all the disciples, and said, it is not fit that we should leave the word of God, to mind what relates to your meals.

Those that transgress reprove in publick, to strike a terror in the rest.

don't you know, that they who prepare the sacrifices, do eat of the sacrifice in the temple? and they who wait at the altar, have their portion from the altar?

from the first day to the present time. being persuaded that

therefore as we have opportunity, let us do good offices to all men, especially to the family of believers.

for God is my witness, to whom I am entirely devoted, in preaching the gospel of his son, that I constantly make mention of you, in my prayers, requesting,

'tis for this end I have sent you Timothy, who is my dear disciple, and a faithful christian, who will inform you how I behave my self in every church where I teach the gospel of Christ.

serve them with affection, as if it was to the Lord,

for if I glory even to transport, my glorying is in God: if I am moderate, my glorying is for your service.

by taking wages of other churches, I may have injured them, to do you service.

now God disposed every one of the members in the body as he thought fit.

but Martha perplex'd with the hurry of her affairs, came to him, and said, Lord, don't you observe my sister has left me to serve all alone: direct her therefore to give me some assistance.

Whatever condition God has allotted to any man, let him go on in the same state he was in when he became a christian: this I give as a standing rule to all churches.
