Unless the Lord builds the house,They labor in vain who build it;Unless the Lord guards the city,The watchman keeps awake in vain.
Behold, children are a heritage and gift from the Lord,The fruit of the womb a reward.
Blessed [happy and sheltered by God’s favor] is everyone who fears the Lord [and worships Him with obedience],Who walks in His ways and lives according to His commandments.
Behold, for so shall the man be blessed and divinely favoredWho fears the Lord [and worships Him with obedience].
May the Lord bless you from Zion [His holy mountain],And may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life;
The Lord is righteous;He has cut in two the [thick] cords of the wicked [which enslaved the people of Israel].
Nor do those who pass by say,“The blessing of the Lord be upon you;We bless you in the name of the Lord.”
Out of the depths [of distress] I have cried to You, O Lord.
Lord, hear my voice!Let Your ears be attentiveTo the voice of my supplications.
If You, Lord, should keep an account of our sins and treat us accordingly,O Lord, who could stand [before you in judgment and claim innocence]?
I wait [patiently] for the Lord, my soul [expectantly] waits,And in His word do I hope.
My soul waits for the LordMore than the watchmen for the morning;More than the watchmen for the morning.
O Israel, hope in the Lord;For with the Lord there is lovingkindness,And with Him is abundant redemption.
Lord, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes haughty;Nor do I involve myself in great matters,Or in things too difficult for me.
O Israel, hope in the LordFrom this time forth and forever.
O Lord, remember on David’s behalfAll his hardship and affliction;
Until I find a place for the Lord,A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob (Israel).”
Arise, O Lord, to Your resting place,You and the ark [the symbol] of Your strength.
The Lord swore to DavidA truth from which He will not turn back:“One of your descendants I will set upon your throne.
For the Lord has chosen Zion;He has desired it for His dwelling place:
“This is My resting place forever” [says the Lord];“Here will I dwell, for I have desired it.
It is like the dew of [Mount] HermonComing down on the hills of Zion;For there the Lord has commanded the blessing: life forevermore.
Behold, bless and praise the Lord, all servants of the Lord (priests, Levites),Who stand and serve by night in the house of the Lord.
Lift up your hands to the sanctuaryAnd bless the Lord.
May the Lord bless you from Zion,He who made heaven and earth.
Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!)Praise the name of the Lord;Praise Him, O servants of the Lord (priests, Levites),
You who stand in the house of the Lord,In the courts of the house of our God,
Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good;Sing praises to His name, for it is gracious and lovely.
For the Lord has chosen [the descendants of] Jacob for Himself,Israel for His own special treasure and possession.
For I know that the Lord is greatAnd that our Lord is above all gods.
Whatever the Lord pleases, He does,In the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and all deeps—
And He gave their land as a heritage,A heritage to Israel His people.
Your name, O Lord, endures forever,Your fame and remembrance, O Lord, [endures] throughout all generations.
For the Lord will judge His peopleAnd He will have compassion on His servants [revealing His mercy].
O house of Israel, bless and praise the Lord [with gratitude];O house of Aaron, bless the Lord;
O house of Levi, bless the Lord;You who fear the Lord [and worship Him with obedience], bless the Lord [with grateful praise]!
Blessed be the Lord from Zion,Who dwells [with us] at Jerusalem.Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!)
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;For His lovingkindness (graciousness, mercy, compassion) endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords,For His lovingkindness endures forever.
Remember, O Lord, against the sons of Edom,The day of [the fall of] Jerusalem,Who said “Down, down [with her]To her very foundation.”
All the kings of the land will give thanks and praise You, O Lord,When they have heard of the promises of Your mouth [which were fulfilled].
Yes, they will sing of the ways of the Lord [joyfully celebrating His wonderful acts],For great is the glory and majesty of the Lord.
Though the Lord is exalted,He regards the lowly [and invites them into His fellowship];But the proud and haughty He knows from a distance.
The Lord will accomplish that which concerns me;Your [unwavering] lovingkindness, O Lord, endures forever—Do not abandon the works of Your own hands.
O Lord, you have searched me [thoroughly] and have known me.
Even before there is a word on my tongue [still unspoken],Behold, O Lord, You know it all.
Do I not hate those who hate You, O Lord?And do I not loathe those who rise up against You?
Rescue me, O Lord, from evil men;Protect me from violent men.
Keep me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked;Protect me from violent menWho intend to trip up my steps.
I said to the Lord, “You are my God;Listen to the voice of my supplications, O Lord.
“O God the Lord, the strength of my salvation,You have covered my head in the day of battle.
“Do not grant, O Lord, the desires of the wicked;Do not further their evil device, that they not be exalted. Selah.
I know [with confidence] that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted,And [will secure] justice for the poor.
Lord, I call upon You; hurry to me.Listen to my voice when I call to You.
Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth;Keep watch over the door of my lips [to keep me from speaking thoughtlessly].
For my eyes are toward You, O God, the Lord;In You I take refuge; do not pour out my life nor leave me defenseless.
I cry aloud with my voice to the Lord;I make supplication with my voice to the Lord.
I cried out to You, O Lord;I said, “You are my refuge,My portion in the land of the living.
Hear my prayer, O Lord,Listen to my supplications!Answer me in Your faithfulness, and in Your righteousness.
Answer me quickly, O Lord, my spirit fails;Do not hide Your face from me,Or I will become like those who go down into the pit (grave).
Rescue me, O Lord, from my enemies;I take refuge in You.
Save my life, O Lord, for Your name’s sake;In Your righteousness bring my life out of trouble.
Blessed be the Lord, my Rock and my great strength,Who trains my hands for warAnd my fingers for battle;
Lord, what is man that You take notice of him?Or the son of man that You think of him?
Bow Your heavens, O Lord, and come down;Touch the mountains, and they will smoke.
How blessed and favored are the people in such circumstance;How blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored] are the people whose God is the Lord!
Great is the Lord, and highly to be praised,And His greatness is [so vast and profound as to be] unsearchable [incomprehensible to man].
The Lord is gracious and full of compassion,Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness.
The Lord is good to all,And His tender mercies are over all His works [the entirety of things created].
All Your works shall give thanks to You and praise You, O Lord,And Your godly ones will bless You.
The Lord upholds all those [of His own] who fallAnd raises up all those who are bowed down.
The Lord is [unwaveringly] righteous in all His waysAnd gracious and kind in all His works.
The Lord is near to all who call on Him,To all who call on Him in truth (without guile).
The Lord keeps all who love Him,But all the wicked He will destroy.
My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord,And all flesh will bless and gratefully praise His holy name forever and ever.
Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!)Praise the Lord, O my soul!
While I live I will praise the Lord;I will sing praises to my God as long as I live.
How blessed and graciously favored is he whose help is the God of Jacob (Israel),Whose hope is in the Lord his God,
Who executes justice for the oppressed,Who gives food to the hungry.The Lord sets free the prisoners.
The Lord opens the eyes of the blind;The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;The Lord loves the righteous [the upright in heart].
The Lord protects the strangers;He supports the fatherless and the widow;But He makes crooked the way of the wicked.
The Lord shall reign forever,Your God, O Zion, to all generations.Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!)
Praise the Lord!For it is good to sing praises to our [gracious and majestic] God;Praise is becoming and appropriate.
The Lord is building up Jerusalem;He is gathering [together] the exiles of Israel.
Great is our [majestic and mighty] Lord and abundant in strength;His understanding is inexhaustible [infinite, boundless].
The Lord lifts up the humble;He casts the wicked down to the ground.
Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving;Sing praises to our God with the lyre,
The Lord favors those who fear and worship Him [with awe-inspired reverence and obedience],Those who wait for His mercy and lovingkindness.
Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem!Praise your God, O Zion!
He has not dealt this way with any [other] nation;They have not known [understood, appreciated, heeded, or cherished] His ordinances.Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!)
Praise the Lord!Praise the Lord from the heavens;Praise Him in the heights!
Let them praise the name of the Lord,For He commanded and they were created.
Praise the Lord from the earth,Sea monsters and all deeps;
Let them praise the name of the Lord,For His name alone is exalted and supreme;His glory and majesty are above earth and heaven.
He has lifted up a horn for His people [giving them strength, prosperity, dignity, and preeminence],Praise for all His godly ones;For the people of Israel, a people near to Him.Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!)
Praise the Lord!Sing to the Lord a new song,And praise Him in the congregation of His godly ones (believers).
For the Lord takes pleasure in His people;He will beautify the humble with salvation.
To execute on them the judgment written.This is the honor for all His godly ones.Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!)
Praise the Lord!Praise God in His sanctuary;Praise Him in His mighty heavens.
