the people which sat in darkness, saw a great light: and to those who sat in the region and shadow of death, light is sprung up."
from that time Jesus began to preach, "Repent, said he, for the kingdom of the Messiah draws nigh."
and he said to them, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men:

and Jesus said to him, take care not to tell any man, but go thy way, shew thy self to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, that it may be a testimony against them.
when Jesus heard it, he was surpriz'd, and said to his followers, I profess I have not met with such an instance of faith, no not in Israel.
and I declare unto you, that many shall come from the east and from the west, and shall sit at table with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob in the heavenly kingdom.
and Jesus said to the centurion, go thy way, what you believed could be done, is effected for you. and his servant was healed in that very hour.

the blind recover their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

but happy are you that your eyes have sight; and that your ears have their hearing.
when any one heareth the doctrine of the gospel, and considers it not, then comes the wicked one, and catches away what was sown in his heart: he is the person meant by the high-way, where some of the seed was sown: but the stony ground,
where other seed fell, denotes the man that heareth the word, and at first receives it with pleasure:
he that is meant by the thorny ground, where other seed fell, is one that heareth the word: which by cares of this life, and the deceitful love of riches, is soon stifled, and becomes unfruitful:
so the servants of the yeoman came and said, Sir, did not you sow your field with good grain: how comes it then to have tares?
'tis some enemy, said he, has done this. the servants replied, shall we go then and pull them up?
no, said he, lest in pulling up the tares, you should root
He propos'd another parable to them, which was this; the gospel-state is like a grain of mustard-seed which a man took to sow in his field.
Then Jesus leaving the multitude, went into the house: and his disciples coming to him, said, explain to us the parable of the tares of the field.
he answered them, he that soweth the good seed, is the son of man:
the field is the world: the good seed are the children of the kingdom: but the tares are the children of the wicked one:
when it is full, they drag it to shore, then sit down, and pick out the good to lay by, but throw the bad away.
Then Jesus said to them, have ye understood all this?
they reply'd, yes, Lord. then said he to them, thus every teacher who is instructed in the doctrine of the gospel, is like the master of a family, who taketh out of his treasure things new and old.
and they were scandaliz'd at him. but Jesus said to them, a prophet is not without honour, except in his own country and in his own family.
and said to his servants, this is John the baptist, he is risen from the dead, and consequently is invested with miraculous power.
for John had said to him, it is not lawful for thee to have her.
who being before instructed by her mother, pray, said she, order John Baptist's head to be brought here in a charger.
and the king relented: nevertheless out of regard to the oath, and to those who sat with him at table, he commanded it to be brought to her.
but Jesus said to them, that's needless, let them eat what you have.
we have nothing here, said they, but five loaves, and two fishes.
then giving orders for the company to sit down on the grass, he took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks; then breaking the loaves into pieces, he gave them to his disciples, and the disciples to the company: who all of them eat,
Presently after Jesus obliged his disciples to embark, and cross over to the other side before him, whilst he dismiss'd the people.
and when he had dismiss'd them, he retired by himself to a mountain to pray: where he stay'd all alone till the latter part of the evening.
but Jesus immediately call'd to them, take courage, said he, it is I, don't be afraid.
Peter answered, Lord, said he, if it be you, bid me come upon the water to you.
Jesus said, come. and Peter getting out of the ship, walk'd on the water to go to Jesus.
immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, and caught him, diffident man, said he, why were you in suspence?
Then the Scribes and Pharisees, who were of Jerusalem, came to him and said,
Then he called the multitude and said to them, hear and understand.
Thereupon his disciples drawing nigh, said, did you observe, how the Pharisees were scandalized at your discourse?
then Peter said to him, tell us the meaning of that expression.
and Jesus said, are ye also yet without understanding?
