Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.

For God gives his word in one way, even in two, and man is not conscious of it:

In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;


That He may turn man aside from his conduct,
And keep him from pride;


He holds back his soul from the pit [of destruction],
And his life from passing over into Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead).

so that his life is sick of bread, and his soul desirable food.

His flesh wasteth away out of sight, and bared are the bones once unseen;


“Then his soul draws near to the pit [of destruction],
And his life to those who bring death (the destroyers).


Then the angel is gracious to him, and says,
‘Spare him from going down to the pit [of destruction];
I have found a ransom [a consideration, or reason for redemption, an atonement]!’

He prays to God, then he accepts him, and he sees his face with a shout of joy, and he repays to the human being his righteousness.

He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;


‘God has redeemed my life from going to the pit [of destruction],
And my life shall see the light.’”

To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.

If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.

For the ear will try words, and the palate will taste of food

Let us make the decision for ourselves as to what is right; let us have the knowledge among ourselves of what is good.

For Job has declared, “I am righteous,
yet God has deprived me of justice.

What man is like Job, a man who freely makes sport of God,

For he hath said, It profiteth not a man if he delight himself in God.

Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.

Yea, of a surety, God will not do wickedly, Neither will the Almighty pervert justice.

Who gave Him authority over the earth?
Who put Him in charge of the entire world?


“Shall one who hates justice [and is an enemy of right] govern?
And will you condemn Him who is just and mighty?

[In] a moment they die, and [in] the middle of [the] night [the] people are shaken, and they pass away, and they take away [the] mighty {effortlessly}.

There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

Therefore he taketh knowledge of their works; And he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.
