'Ought' in the Bible

"Let it be so on this occasion," Jesus replied; "for so we ought to fulfil every religious duty." Then he consented;

Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;

yet he has no [substantial] root in himself, but is only temporary, and when pressure or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he stumbles and falls away [abandoning the One who is the source of salvation].

But you, beloved, ought to remember the words that were spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ,
