For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?
Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?
But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils.
But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.
Jesus left there and went into their [i.e., the Pharisees'] synagogues,
Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.
But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,
Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?
[So], let these Pharisees alone; they are blind leaders. And if a blind person leads a blind person, both of them will fall into a ditch."
The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.
Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?
Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.
Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.
But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.
While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
Then spake Jesus to the multitudes and to his disciples, saying, The scribes and Pharisees sit in the chair of Moses:
Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:
But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
You blind Pharisees! First wash the inside of the cup and dish, so [then] the outside will be clean also.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
Likewise the chief priests also mocking, with the scribes, the Pharisees, and the elders, said,
Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,
And it happened that he was reclining at table in his house; and many publicans and sinners were reclining with Jesus and his disciples; for there were many, and scribes of the Pharisees were also following him.
And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?
And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?
And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?
The Pharisees were watching Jesus closely to see if He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him [in the Jewish high court].
Then He said to the Pharisees, "Is it permissible by the law of Moses to do something good, or something harmful on the Sabbath day? To save a life or to kill it?" But they did not reply.
And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.
Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem.
For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.
Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?
And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.
And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.
And they asked him, saying, How is it that the Pharisees and scribes say that Elijah must come first?
When he was come to the other disciples, he found a great crowd about them, and the Pharisees disputing with them.
And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him.
the Scribes and Pharisees upon hearing this consulted together how to destroy him; but they stood in awe of him, because all the people were strangely affected with his doctrine.
And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words.
As Jesus was teaching in the Temple, He responded [to some Pharisees. See Matt. 22:41] by asking, "How is it that the experts in the law of Moses can say that the Christ is the son of David?
And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?
But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?
And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink?
And certain of the Pharisees said unto them, Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath days?
And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him.
But the experts in the law of Moses and the Pharisees became furious and began discussing among themselves what they could do to Jesus.
But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.
And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat.
And lo! a woman who was in the city, a sinner, learning that he was at table in the Pharisees house, brought an alabasterbottle of ointment,
And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.
But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.
And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things:
In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee.
And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.
And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?
And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.
And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.
And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.
Afterwards some of the Pharisees, who deny there is any resurrection, accosted him with this question,
Then certain of the Pharisees answered and said, "Master, thou hast well said."
And Jesus said to them [i.e., the Pharisees. See Matt. 22:41], "How is it that they [i.e., the experts in the law of Moses. See Mark 12:35] can say that the Christ [i.e., God's specially chosen one] is the son of David?
And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.
There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,
The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.
Then the officers returned to the chief priest and Pharisees,
Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?
Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?
Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?
And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.
They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.
Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.
Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.
But these Jews [i.e., Pharisees] did not believe that the man had been blind and had received his sight back until they called his parents
The Pharisees said to him, "What did he do to you? How did he restore your sight?"
The man replied, "Is not that strange! You do not know where he came from and yet he restored my sight! [Note: The next sentence may be the beggar stating the Pharisees' argument. See verse 24].
And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?
But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.
Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.
Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.
The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.
Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:

But the husbandmen, seeing the son, said among themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and have his inheritance!' And, taking him, they cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him. When, therefore, the lord of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those husband-men?" They say to Him, "He will miserably destroy those miserable men, and will let out the vineyard to other husbandmen, who will render to him the fruits in their seasons." Jesus saith to them, "Did ye never read in the Scriptures, 'The stone which the builders rejected, the same was made head of a corner; this was from the Lord, and it is marvellous in our eyes?' "Therefore, I say to you, the Kingdom of God shall be taken away from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruit thereof. And he who falls on this stone shall be broken in pieces; but on whomsoever it falls, it will scatter him as dust." And the high-priests and Pharisees, having heard His parables, knew that He was speaking concerning them. And, while seeking to lay hold on Him, they feared the multitudes, since they were holding Him as a prophet.
"And, when ye pray, ye shall not be as the hypocrites; for they love to pray, standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men: verily I say to you, they have their reward. But when you pray, enter into your closet; and, having closed your door, pray to your Father Who is in secret; and your Father Who seeth in secret will recompense you. "And, when praying, use not vain repetitions, as the gentiles do; for they think that for their much speaking they shall be heard. Be not, therefore, like them; for your Father knoweth of what things ye have need before ye ask Him.
For God said, 'Honor your father and your mother,' and 'He that speaks evil of father or mother, let him surely die,' But ye say, 'Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, That by which you might be profited by me is an offering,' shall in no wise honor his father; and ye made void the word of God because of your tradition. Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, 'This people honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. But in vain do they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'"
An evil and adulterous generation is seeking after a sign; and no sign will be given to it, except the sign of Jonah the prophet." And, leaving them, He departed. And the disciples, coming to the other aide, forgot to take bread. And Jesus said to them, "Take heed, and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees." And they were deliberating among themselves, saying, "We took no bread." And Jesus, knowing it, said, "Why are ye deliberating among yourselves, O ye of little faith, because ye have no bread? Do ye not yet perceive, nor remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? How is it that ye do not perceive that I spake not to you concerning bread? but beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees? Then they understood that He did not bid them beware of the leaven of the bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
But all their works they do with the view to be seen by men; for they make broad their phylacteries and enlarge their fringes; and they love the first place in the feasts, and the front seats in the synagogues, and the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called by men 'Rabbi.' But be not ye called Rabbi; for One is your Teacher, and all ye are brethren. And call no one your father on the earth; for One is your Father, the Heavenly. Neither be ye called leaders; because One is your Leader, the Christ. But the greater of you shall be your minister. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled; and whosoever shall humble himself shall be exalted. "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men; for ye do not enter, neither do ye suffer those who are entering in to enter. OMITTED TEXT. 'And whosoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever swears by the gift that is upon it, is a debtor!' Ye blind! for which is greater??he gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift? He, therefore, who swears by the altar swears by it and by all things on it; and he who swears by the temple swears by it and by Him dwelling therein; and he who swears by Heaven swears by the throne of God and by Him sitting thereon. "Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin; and have omitted the weightier things of the law??he judgment, and the mercy, and the faith; but these it was proper to have done, and those not to have omitted. Blind guides! straining out the gnat, and swallowing the camel! "Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish; but within they are full from extortion and excess! Blind Pharisees! cleanse first the inside of the cup and of the dish, that its outside also may become clean. "Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye are like white-washed sepulchres, which outwardly, indeed, appear beautiful, but within are full of bones of the dead and of all uncleanness. So ye also outwardly, indeed, appear righteous to men; but within ye are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. "Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and adorn the tombs of the righteous, and say, 'If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.' So then ye testify to yourselves that ye are sons of those who killed the prophets; and fill ye up the measure of your fathers. Serpents! broods of vipers! How can ye escape the judgment of Hell?
But He, knowing their thoughts, said to them, "Every kingdom, divided against itself, is made desolate; and a house divided against a house falls. And, if Satan also were divided against himself, how would his kingdom stand? because ye say that by Beelzebub I am casting out the demons! But, if I, by Beelzebub, cast out the demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore, they shall be your judges. But, if I, by the finger of God, cast out the demons, then the Kingdom of God came upon you unexpectedly. "When the strong man, fully armed, is guarding his own court, his goods are in peace; but, when a stronger than he, coming upon him, overcomes him, he takes away his whole armor upon which he had relied, and distributes his spoils. He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who is not gathering with Me is scattering. "When the unclean spirit goes out from the man, it passes through waterless places, seeking rest; and, not finding it, it says, 'I will return into my house whence I came out.' And, coming, it finds it swept and decorated. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself; and, entering in, they make their abode there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first." And it came to pass, as He was saying these things, that a certain woman, out of the multitude, lifting up her voice, said to Him, "Happy the womb that carried Thee, and the breasts which Thou didst suck!" But He said, "Yea, rather, happy are those who hear the word of God, and keep it!" And as the multitudes were gathering together to Him, He began to say, "This generation is an evil generation: it is seeking a sign, and a sign shall not be given it, except the sign of Jonah. For, as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so also will the Son of Man be to this generation. "The queen of the south will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and will condemn them; because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, something more than Solomon is here. "The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation, and condemn it; because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and, behold, something more than Jonah is here. "No one, having lighted a lamp, puts it in a cellar, or under a measure, but on a lamp-stand, that those who enter may see the light. The lamp of your body is your eye. When your eye is sound, your whole body also is full of light; but, when it is evil, your body also is dark. Take heed, therefore, lest the light in you be darkness. If, therefore, your whole body be full of light, not having any part dark, it shall be wholly light, as when the lamp, with its bright shining, illuminates you." Now, as He spake, a Pharisee asks Him to dine with him; and, entering, He reclined at table. And the Pharisee, seeing it, marvelled that He was not first immersed before breakfast. But the Lord said to him, "Now ye, the Pharisees, cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish; but your inward part is full of extortion and wickedness. Senseless ones! Did not He who made the outside make the inside also? But give as alms the things within; and, behold, all things are clean to you. "But woe to you Pharisees! because ye tithe the mint, and the rue, and every herb; but ye pass by judgment and the love of God. Now these things it was needful to do, and not to leave those undone. "Woe to you Pharisees! because ye love the first seats in the synagogues, and the salutations in the marketplaces! Woe to you! because ye are as the unobserved tombs; and the men, walking over them, know it not." And one of the lawyers, answering, says to Him, "Teacher, in saying these things, Thou insultest us also!" And He said, "Woe to you lawyers, also! because ye burden men with burdens hard to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers! "Woe to you! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. Consequently, ye are witnesses, and consent to the works of your fathers; because they, indeed, killed them, and ye build their tombs. On this account also the wisdom of God said, 'I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them will they slay, and some will they persecute; that the blood of all the prophets, which has been shed from the founding of the world, may be required of this generation??51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zachariah who perished between the altar and the house??ea, I say to you, it shall be required of this generation.' "Woe to you lawyers; because ye took away the Key of Knowledge; ye yourselves entered not in, and those who were entering ye hindered." And, when He went forth thence, the scribes and Pharisees began vehemently to press upon Him, and to urge Him to speak concerning many things; lying in wait for Him, to catch something out of His mouth.
"What man of you, having a hundred sheep, and losing one of them, does not leave behind the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after the lost one, until he finds it? And, finding it, he places it upon his shoulders, rejoicing: and, coming to his house, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying, Rejoice with me, because I found my sheep, which was lost. I say to you, that so there will be joy in Heaven over one sinner that repents, more than over ninety-nine righteous men who have no need of repentance. "Or what woman, having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, does not light a lamp, and sweep the house, and seek diligently, till she finds it? And, having found it, she calls together her female friends and neighbors, saying, 'Rejoice with me; because I found the piece which I lost!'

And, again calling the multitude, He said to them, "Hear Me, all of you, and understand: there is nothing from without the man, that, entering into him, can defile him; but the things proceeding out of the man are those that defile the man."

"Woe to you, blind guides, who say, 'Whosoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!' Fools, and blind! for which is greater??he gold or the temple that sanctified the gold? 'And whosoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever swears by the gift that is upon it, is a debtor!' Ye blind! for which is greater??he gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift? He, therefore, who swears by the altar swears by it and by all things on it; and he who swears by the temple swears by it and by Him dwelling therein; and he who swears by Heaven swears by the throne of God and by Him sitting thereon. "Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin; and have omitted the weightier things of the law??he judgment, and the mercy, and the faith; but these it was proper to have done, and those not to have omitted. Blind guides! straining out the gnat, and swallowing the camel! "Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish; but within they are full from extortion and excess! Blind Pharisees! cleanse first the inside of the cup and of the dish, that its outside also may become clean. "Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye are like white-washed sepulchres, which outwardly, indeed, appear beautiful, but within are full of bones of the dead and of all uncleanness. So ye also outwardly, indeed, appear righteous to men; but within ye are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. "Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and adorn the tombs of the righteous, and say, 'If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.' So then ye testify to yourselves that ye are sons of those who killed the prophets; and fill ye up the measure of your fathers. Serpents! broods of vipers! How can ye escape the judgment of Hell?

If, therefore, your whole body be full of light, not having any part dark, it shall be wholly light, as when the lamp, with its bright shining, illuminates you." Now, as He spake, a Pharisee asks Him to dine with him; and, entering, He reclined at table. And the Pharisee, seeing it, marvelled that He was not first immersed before breakfast. But the Lord said to him, "Now ye, the Pharisees, cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish; but your inward part is full of extortion and wickedness. Senseless ones! Did not He who made the outside make the inside also? But give as alms the things within; and, behold, all things are clean to you. "But woe to you Pharisees! because ye tithe the mint, and the rue, and every herb; but ye pass by judgment and the love of God. Now these things it was needful to do, and not to leave those undone. "Woe to you Pharisees! because ye love the first seats in the synagogues, and the salutations in the marketplaces! Woe to you! because ye are as the unobserved tombs; and the men, walking over them, know it not." And one of the lawyers, answering, says to Him, "Teacher, in saying these things, Thou insultest us also!" And He said, "Woe to you lawyers, also! because ye burden men with burdens hard to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers! "Woe to you! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. Consequently, ye are witnesses, and consent to the works of your fathers; because they, indeed, killed them, and ye build their tombs. On this account also the wisdom of God said, 'I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them will they slay, and some will they persecute; that the blood of all the prophets, which has been shed from the founding of the world, may be required of this generation??51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zachariah who perished between the altar and the house??ea, I say to you, it shall be required of this generation.' "Woe to you lawyers; because ye took away the Key of Knowledge; ye yourselves entered not in, and those who were entering ye hindered." And, when He went forth thence, the scribes and Pharisees began vehemently to press upon Him, and to urge Him to speak concerning many things; lying in wait for Him, to catch something out of His mouth.
If, therefore, the Son shall make you free, ye will be free indeed. I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye are seeking to kill Me, because My word has no place in you. I speak the things which I have seen with My Father; and ye, therefore, do the things which ye heard from your father. They answered and said to Him, "Our father is Abraham." Jesus saith to them, "If ye are children of Abraham, ye are doing the works of Abraham. But now ye are seeking to kill Me, a Man Who hath told you the truth, which I heard from My Father: this Abraham did not. Ye do the works of your father." They say to Him, "We were not born of fornication; we have one Father??od." Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, ye would love Me; for I came forth, and have come from, God; for neither have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. Why do ye not understand My speech? it is because ye cannot hear My word. Ye are of your father the Devil; and the desires of your father ye wish to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own; because he is a liar, and the father of it. And, because I speak the truth, ye believe Me not. Who of you convicts Me of sin? If I speak truth, why do ye not believe Me? He that is of God hears the words of God; on this account, ye hear them not, because ye are not of God." The Jews answered and said to Him, "Say we not well that Thou art a Samaritan, and hast a demon?" Jesus answered, "I have not a demon; but I honor My Father, and ye dishonor Me. But I seek not My own glory: there is One Who seeketh and judgeth. Verily, verily, I say to you, if any one keeps My word, he shall never see death." The Jews said to Him, "Now we know that Thou hast a demon! Abraham and the prophets died; and Thou sayest, 'If any one keeps My word, he shall never taste of death!' Art Thou greater than our father Abraham, who died? and the prophets died? Whom makest Thou Thyself?" Jesus answered, "If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing. It is My Father Who glorifieth Me, of Whom ye say, that He is your God. And ye have not known Him, but I know Him; and, if I should say, I know Him not, I shall be a liar like you. But I know Him, and I keep His word. Abraham, your father, rejoiced to see My day; and he saw it, and was glad." The Jews, therefore, said to Him, "Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast Thou seen Abraham?" Jesus said to them, "Verily, verily, I say to you, before Abraham existed, I am." They took up stones, therefore, to cast at Him; but Jesus was concealed, and went out of the temple.
We know that God heareth not sinners; but, if any one is a worshiper of God, and does His will, him He heareth. From remotest antiquity, it was never heard that any one opened the eyes of one born blind! If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing." They answered and said to him, You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us!" And they cast him out.
