The woman says to him, I know that Messias comes, called Christ: when he should come, he will announce all things to us.
Jesus says to them, My food is that I should do the will of him that has sent me, and that I should finish his work.
Then answered Jesus and said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, The Son can of himself do nothing, except what he sees the Father doing: for whatever he should do, also these does the Son likewise.
For the father loveth the son, and showeth him all things, whatsoever he himself doeth. And he will show him greater works than these, because ye should marvel.
that all men should honour the son, even as they honour the father. he that honoureth not the son, honoureth not the father who hath sent him.
"But I have a testimony greater than John's, for the works which the Father has given to me that I should complete them--the very works which I am doing--[these] testify about me, that the Father has sent me.
I am come in my father's name, and you receive me not: if another should come in his own name, him you will receive.
but if you don't believe what he has writ, how should you believe what I say?
Philip answered him. Loaves of two hundred drachmas will not suffice them, that each of them should take some little.
And when they were filled, he says to his disciples, Gather the fragments remaining over, that nothing should be lost.
Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, "This is of a truth the same prophet that should come into the world."
They said therefore to him, What should we do that we may work the works of God?
Jesus answered them, "This is the deed that God requires: You should believe in Him whom God has sent [i.e., in Jesus]."
And Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life: he coming to me should not hunger; and he believing in me should not thirst.
because I have come down from heaven not that I should do my will, but the will of the one who sent me.
and the will of him who sent me is this, that I should not lose any one of those he has given me, but should raise them again at the last day: this,
I say, is the will of him that sent me, that every one who observes the son, and believeth on him, should have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
but this is the bread which came down from heaven, that he who eats thereof should not die.
What then if ye should behold the Son of man ascending where he was before?
But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who it was that should betray him.
Now he spake of Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.
Then Jesus' [half-] brothers said to Him, "You should leave here and go to Judea so your disciples [there] can see the [supernatural] deeds you are performing.
For no one does a thing privately, if he is seeking to be widely known. Since you do these things, you should show yourself publicly to the world."
If a man on the sabbath receiveth circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have restored a man to sound health on the sabbath?
But we know this whence he is: and Christ, when he should come, none knows whence he is.
And many of the crowd believed on him, and said, That Christ, when he should come, will he do more signs than these which he did?
The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things concerning Him; and the chief priests and Pharisees sent officers, that they should arrest Him.
On the last and most important day of the festival,
(but this he meant of the spirit, which they that believed on him, should receive: for the spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.)
now Moses has ordain'd in the law, that such criminals should be stoned: but what is your opinion?
When they persisted in questioning Him, He stood up and said to them,
Even if I should judge, my decision is fair, because I am not alone, but there are two of us, I and the Father who has sent me.
Then said they unto him, "Where is thy father?" Jesus answered, "Ye neither know me, nor yet my father. If ye had known me, ye should have known my father also."
They said, "Who are you?" Jesus replied, "Why should I talk to you at all?
If therefore the Son should make you free, ye will truly be free.
I am telling [you] about what I have seen in my Father's presence; but you [should] do what you have heard from your father."
Truly, truly, I say to you, If any keep my word, he should never see death.
"Were I to glorify myself," answered Jesus, "I should have no real glory. There is One who glorifies me--namely my Father, who you say is your God.
and ye have not known him: but I know him; and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be like unto you, a liar: but I know him, and keep his word.
Your father Abraham exulted in that he should see my day, and he saw and rejoiced.
And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he should be born blind?
Jesus answered, Neither did this man sin, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
These things said his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man should confess him to be Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.
He answered them, "I just told you, but you would not listen. Why should I tell you again? Do you men want to become his disciples, too?"
the man replied, that's very strange that he should make me see, and you should not know who sent him.
It is unheard of, since the world began, that anyone should open a blind man's eyes.
And Jesus added: "It was to put men to the test that I came into this world, in order that those that cannot see should see, and that those that can see should become blind."
Jesus said unto them, "If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, 'We see.' Therefore your sin remaineth."
And all living and believing in me should never die. Believest thou this?
She says to him, Yea, Lord; I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, who should come into the world.
But some of them said, Could not this man, who opened the eyes of him that was blind, have caused that this man also should not die?
Jesus said to her, did I not tell you, that if you would believe, you should see the glory of God?
So, the leading priests and the Pharisees assembled the Council [Note: This was the Jewish governing body called "the Sanhedrin"] and said, "What should we do, for this man is performing many [miraculous] signs?
But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said, "You know nothing about it ??50 you do not understand it is in your own interests that one man should die for the People, instead of the whole nation being destroyed."
you little consider it is our interest, that one man should die for the people, to prevent the destruction of the whole nation.
now this he did not say from his own motion: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation:
and not for the nation only, but that he should also gather together into one the children of God who were scattered abroad.
So from that day they resolved that they should kill him.
Then sought they Jesus, and said with one another, standing in the temple, What seems it to you, that he should not come to the festival
now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had publish'd an order, that if any man knew where he was, he should give information in order to have him seized.
But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, that should betray him, saith,
So Jesus said,
But the chief priests decided that they should kill Lazarus also,
On the morrow much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus should come to Jerusalem,
And Jesus answereth them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
Truly, truly, I say to you, except a kernel of wheat, having fallen into the earth, should die, it remains alone: and if it should die, it brings forth much fruit.
If any person wants to serve me, he should become my follower; and wherever I am, my servant will be there also. If any person serves me, the Father will honor him.
(this he said to signify what death he should die.)
Jesus, therefore, said unto them - Yet a little while, the light, is, among you: Walk, while ye have, the light, lest, darkness, on you should lay hold; and, he that walketh in darkness, knoweth not whither he drifteth.
and hardned their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them."
nevertheless there were many even among the chief rulers, who believed on him; but they did not own it publickly for fear the Pharisees should excommunicate them.
I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness:
for I have not spoken for my self; but the father who sent me, he commission'd me, what I should teach, and what I should speak.
Now before the feast of the passover, Jesus knowing that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto his Father, having loved his own that were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
And [as] a dinner was taking place, [when] the devil had already put into the heart of Judas [son] of Simon Iscariot that he should betray him,
Jesus said to him, He that is washed needs only that his feet should be washed, but is wholly pure; and you are pure, but not all.
For he knew him that should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
So if I, then, being your Lord and Teacher have washed your feet, you should wash one another's feet also.
For I have given you an example, that ye also should do as I have done to you.
From now I say to you before it shall be, that, when it should be, ye might believe that I am.
To him beckoned Simon Peter that he should ask who it was of whom he spake.
For some thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus said unto him, Buy what things we have need of for the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.
A new commandment I give to you, that ye should love each other, just as I loved you, so that ye also should love each other.
[Jesus continued], "Do not allow your hearts to be upset. You should believe in God, and believe in me also.
In my Father's Home there are many dwellings. If it had not been so, I should have told you, for I am going to prepare a place for you.
If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
You should believe me [when I say] that I am in [fellowship with] the Father, and the Father is in [fellowship with] me. Or else believe me for the sake of the deeds themselves that I perform.
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Intercessor, that should remain with you forever;
And now have I told you before it shall be, that when it should be, ye might believe.
Herein, was my Father glorified, that, much fruit, ye should bear, and become my disciples.
"Just as the Father has loved me, [so] I have also loved you. You should continue to receive [or, respond to] my love. [Note: The next verse tells how this can be done].
My commandment [to you] is this: You should love one another just as I have loved you.
No one has greater love than this, that one should lay down his life for his friends.
Ye did not choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that ye should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should abide: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
These commands I give you, that ye should love one another.
"If the world hates you, you should realize that it hated me before you.
If I had not come and spoken unto them, they should not have had sin: but now have they nothing to cloak their sin withal.
And when the Intercessor should come, which I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, which comes from the Father, he shall testify of me:
