And when they heard [what He had said], they [all] left, one at a time, beginning with the oldest men. So, Jesus was left alone with the woman [still standing] there where she was.
When Jesus had lifted up himself again, and saw no man, but the woman; He said unto her, "Woman, where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee?"
So they were saying to him, "Where is your father?" Jesus replied, "You know neither me nor my Father! If you had known me, you would have known my Father also."
He spoke these words by the treasury [while] teaching in the temple [courts], and no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come.
Jesus therefore repeated what he had said, "I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your incredulity, so that whither I go, ye cannot come."
They did not realize that He had been speaking to them about the Father.
Jesus therefore said to those Jews that had believed him, If ye abide in my word, then are ye truly my disciples;
They answered and said to him, Abraham is our Father. Jesus says to them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye had done Abraham's works.
But now you have a desire to put me to death, a man who has said to you what is true, as I had it from God: Abraham did not do that.
Jesus said unto them - If, God, had been your father, ye had been loving me, for, I, from God, came forth, and am here; for, not even of myself, have I come, but, he, sent me forth.
Jesus said unto them, Before Abraham had a being, I Am.
As He passed along, He saw a man who had been blind from his birth.
When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and anointed his eyes with the clay,
the neighbours therefore, and they who before had seen him begging, said, is not this he that used to sit begging?
He answered, "The man called Jesus made some clay and rubbed it on my eyes, and said to me, 'Go to Siloam and wash them.' So when I had gone and washed them I could see."
This very man that had been blind, was at length brought to the Pharisees.
Now it was on the Sabbath when Jesus had made the clay and caused the man's eyes to see.
the Pharisees therefore ask'd him likewise, how he had received his sight. he told them, he put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and now see.
The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight,
These things said his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man should confess him to be Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.
They therefore again call'd the man that had been blind, and said to him, in the name of God tell the truth: for we know that this man is an impostor.
Out of age-past time, hath it never been heard, that anyone opened the eyes of one who, blind, had been born.
if this man had not his mission from God, he could do nothing.
Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and finding him, he said, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?
Jesus said unto them - If, blind, ye had been, ye had not had sin; but, now, ye say, We see, your sin, abideth.
This
Once again there was a division among the Jews because of what Jesus had been saying.
So He departed again across the Jordan
This was the Mary who had poured the perfume on the Lord and wiped His feet with her hair [See Matt. 26:6-13], whose brother Lazarus was sick.
Now Jesus had love in his heart for Martha and her sister and Lazarus.
however, he stay'd in the place where he was, even two days after he had heard that Lazarus was sick.
And, when he had said this, he added: "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going that I may wake him."
Now Jesus had spoken of his death: but they thought that he spake of taking rest in sleep.
When Jesus was arriv'd, he found that Lazarus had been then four days in the grave.
and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary, to console them concerning their brother.
When Martha had the news that Jesus was on the way, she went out to him, but Mary did not go from the house.
Lord, said Martha to Jesus, if you had been here, my brother had not been dead.
When she had said this, she went privately to call Mary her sister, saying, the master is come, and calls for you.
Jesus had not yet come into the village but was still in the place where Martha had met Him.
When Martha's Jewish friends, who had been comforting her at her house, saw Mary getting up quickly and leaving, they followed her, thinking she was going to the grave site to mourn.
Mary being come to the place where Jesus was, as soon as she saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying, Lord, if you had been here, my brother had not been dead.
When Jesus saw her crying, and the Jews who had come with her crying, He was angry
Thus the people who had come to mourn said, "Look how much he loved him!"
Jesus, however, again restraining His strong feeling, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone had been laid against the mouth of it.
Jesus said, "Take away the stone." Martha, the sister of the one who had died, said to him, "Lord, he is stinking already, because it has been four days."
Jesus said to her, Did I not say to you that if you had faith you would see the glory of God?
So, they removed the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, "Father, thank you for hearing me. [Note: Jesus had already prayed for and been assured of Lazarus' resurrection].
And I had known that thou always hear me, but because of the multitude that stands by I spoke, so that they may believe that thou sent me.
when he had spoke this, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
The one who had died came out, his feet and his hands bound with strips of cloth, and his face wrapped with a facecloth. Jesus said to them, "Untie him and let him go."
many therefore of the Jews who came to see Mary, and had seen what Jesus had done, believed on him.
But some of them went to the Pharisees, and told them what Jesus had done.
Then the high priests and the Pharisees had a meeting and said, What are we doing? This man is doing a number of signs.
But the Jewish Festival of the Passover was near; and many people had gone up from the country to Jerusalem, for their 'purification,' before the Festival began.
now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had publish'd an order, that if any man knew where he was, he should give information in order to have him seized.
Six days before the passover Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, who had been dead, and raised to life again.
But he said this, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief and had the bag, and carried what was put into it.
a great multitude of Jews knowing that Jesus was there, went thither, not for his sake only, but likewise to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.
for the chief priests had resolved to put even Lazarus to death;
For because of him a great number of the Jews went away and had belief in Jesus.
On the morrow a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,
this passage his disciples did not understand at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, they remembred how they had mounted him, and perceiv'd that those words related to him.
Meanwhile, the crowd, which had been with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb
For this cause also the multitude went and met him, for that they heard that he had done this sign.
Now some Greeks were among those who had gone up in order to worship at the feast.
The multitude therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it had thundered: others said, An angel hath spoken to him.
While you still have the Light, believe in the Light, that you may be 'Sons of Light.'" After he had said this, Jesus went away, and hid himself from them.
But though he had done so many miracles in their presence, yet they did not believe on him:
This was so that these words, which Isaiah the prophet had spoken, would be fulfilled [Isa. 53:1], "Lord, who has believed our message? And who has the Lord's power been shown to?"
And therefore they could not believe; for Esaias had also said,
"God has blinded their eyes [of understanding] and closed their minds. If He had not done so, they would [be able to] see with their eyes and understand with their minds and turn [to God] so He could heal them [spiritually]."
Isaiah had said these things because he saw the [coming] glory of Jesus, and [so] was speaking about Him.
However, a number even of the rulers had belief in him, but because of the Pharisees they did not say so openly for fear that they might be shut out from the Synagogue:
But Jesus had proclaimed: "He who believes in me believes, not in me, but in him who sent me;
Before the Passover Festival, Jesus knew that His hour had come to depart from this world to the Father.
Now by the time of supper, the Devil
though he knew that the father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and was going to God,
Then he poured water into the washbasin and began to wash the feet of the disciples, and to wipe [them] dry with the towel {which he had tied around himself}.
Jesus replied to him, "The person who has already had a bath is completely clean and does not need to wash anything but his feet. And you disciples are [already] clean [i.e., spiritually], but not every one of you."
(He had knowledge who was false to him; that is why he said, You are not all clean.)
after he had washed their feet, he took his garment, and setting down again, he said to them, do you comprehend what I have been doing?
When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in the spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
Then the eyes of the disciples were turned on one another, in doubt as to whom he had in mind.
One of his disciples, the one whom Jesus kept loving, had been sitting very close to him.
Jesus answered, he it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have made it. and when he had made the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
and after he had taken the sop, Satan entred into him. then said Jesus to him, what you do, do quickly.
Now, no one at the table knew why He had said this to him.
for as Judas had the purse, some of them thought, that Jesus had ordered him to buy what was necessary against the feast: or give something to the poor.
So [after he] had taken the piece of bread, he went out immediately. And it was night.
When
a new commandment I give unto you, "that ye love one another; that you would have the same love for one another as I have had for you."
In my Father's house there are many abodes; were it not so, I had told you: for I go to prepare you a place;
if you had known me, you would likewise have known my father: and from henceforth you shall know him, nay, you have seen him.
Keep in mind how I said to you, I go away and come to you again. If you had love for me you would be glad, because I am going to the Father: for the Father is greater than I.
But, in order for the world to know that I love the Father, I am [always] doing what the Father commands me to. Let us get up, and leave here." [i.e., leave the room where they had eaten the Passover meal. See 13:1 with 18:1].
"I have told you these things, that the joy which I have had may remain in you and that your joy may be complete.
If the world hates you, remember that it has first had me as the fixed object of its hatred.
If, of the world, ye had been, the world, of its own, had been fond; but, because, of the world, ye are not, on the contrary, I, chose you out of the world, therefore, the world, doth hate you.
if I had not come and spoken to them, they were not having sin; but now pretext they have not for their sin.
