Then he came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And he said, "Young man, I say to you, arise."
The dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother.
When the men had come to him, they said, "John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying, 'Are you the One who is to come, or shall we look for another?'"
At that very hour he cured many of diseases and afflictions and evil spirits, and to many that were blind he gave sight.
He answered them, "Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have the good news preached to them.
Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner."
And Jesus answered him, "Simon, I have something to say to you." And he said, "Teacher, say it."
Simon answered, "I suppose the one to whom he forgave more." And he said to him, "You have judged rightly."
Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head.
He said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."
And when a great crowd came together and people from town after town came to him, he said in a parable:
"A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell along the path; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it.
But others fell on good soil, sprang up, and yielded a crop a hundredfold." When he had said this he called out, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"
he said, "To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God; but to others it is given in parables, so that 'Seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.'
"Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
But he said to them, "My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it."
One day he got into a boat with his disciples, and he said to them, "Let us go over to the other side of the lake." So they set out.
He said to them, "Where is your faith?" And they were afraid, and they marveled, saying to one another, "Who then is this, that he commands even the winds and water, and they obey him?"
When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me!"
Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Legion"; because many demons had entered him.
And Jesus said, "Who touched me?" When all denied it, Peter said, "Master, the multitudes surround you and press upon you!"
But Jesus said, "Someone touched me; for I know that power has gone out from me."
And he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace."
While he was still speaking, someone came from the ruler of the synagogue's house and said, "Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more."
Now all were wailing and mourning for her; but he said, "Do not weep; she is not dead, but sleeping."
And he said to them, "Take nothing for the journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics.
Whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart.
Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done; and he was perplexed, because it was said by some that John had been raised from the dead,
And Herod said, "John I have beheaded, but who is this about whom I hear such things?" So he sought to see him.
Now the day began to wear away; and the twelve came and said to him, "Send the crowd away, to go to the surrounding villages and country, to lodge and get provisions; for we are here in a deserted place."
But he said to them, "You give them something to eat." And they said, "We have no more than five loaves and two fishunless we go and buy food for all these people."
For there were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, "Make them sit down in groups of about fifty each."
Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the people.
And he said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" And Peter answered, "The Christ of God."
Then he said to them all, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
As the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah"not knowing what he said.
And they were all amazed at the majesty of God. But while everyone was marveling at all that Jesus did, he said to his disciples,
Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a little child and set him by him,
and said to them, "Whoever receives this little child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For he who is least among you all is the one who is great."
But Jesus said to him, "Do not forbid him, for he that is not against you is for you."
When the time drew near for him to be received up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem.
but the people did not receive him, because his face was set for Jerusalem.
And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?"
As they were going along the road, a man said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go."
And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head."
To another he said, "Follow me." But he said, "Lord, let me first go and bury my father."
Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God."
Still another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say farewell to those at my home."
Jesus said to him, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God."
And he said to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.
Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you.
And he said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
At that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Yes, Father, for so it was your good pleasure.
Then he turned to his disciples and said privately, "Blessed are the eyes which see what you see.
He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read?"
And he said to him, "You have answered right; do this, and you will live."
But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"
Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him of his clothing, beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side.
So likewise, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.
He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; then he set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, 'Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.'
He said, "The one who showed mercy on him." And Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."
And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his word.
But Martha was distracted with much serving; and she went to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me."
He was praying in a certain place, and when he ceased, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples."
He said to them, "When you pray, say: 'Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come.
And he said to them, "Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, 'Friend, lend me three loaves;
for a friend of mine has come to me on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him';
But some of them said, "He casts out demons by Beelzebub, the prince of demons."
But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them: "Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a house divided against itself falls.
As he said these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, "Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts that nursed you!"
But he said, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!"
While he was speaking, a Pharisee asked him to dine with him; so he went in and sat at table.
But the Lord said to him, "Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness.
And he said, "Woe to you also, lawyers! For you load men with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.
Therefore the wisdom of God also said, 'I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,'
Therefore whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the housetops.
Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me."
But he said to him, "Man, who made me a judge or an arbitrator over you?"
And he said to them, "Take heed, and beware of all covetousness; for a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."
And he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones; and there I will store all my grain and my goods.
But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have prepared?'
Then he said to his disciples, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about your body, what you will put on.
Blessed are those servants whom the master finds watching when he comes. Truly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit at table, and will come and serve them.
Peter said, "Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to all?"
And the Lord said, "Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time?
Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions.
He also said to the multitudes, "When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, "A shower is coming'; and so it happens.
So he said to the keeper of his vineyard, 'Look, for three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and find none. Cut it down; why should it use up the ground?'
When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, "Woman, you are freed from your infirmity."
But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the people, "There are six days on which work ought to be done; come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day."
When he said this, all his adversaries were put to shame; and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by him.
Then he said, "What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it?
It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his garden; and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches."
And again he said, "To what shall I compare the kingdom of God?
Then one said to him, "Lord, will those who are saved be few?" And he said to them,
And men will come from east and west, and from north and south, and sit at table in the kingdom of God.
