'Children' in the Bible
He said to the woman: I will intensify your labor pains; you will bear children in anguish. Your desire will be for your husband, yet he will dominate you.
The Nephilim were on the earth both in those days and afterwards, when the sons of God came to the daughters of man, who bore children to them. They were the powerful men of old, the famous men.
And Shem, Japheth's older brother, also had children. Shem was the father of all the children of Eber.
Abram's wife Sarai had not borne him children. She owned an Egyptian slave named Hagar.
Sarai said to Abram, "Since the Lord has prevented me from bearing children, go to my slave; perhaps I can have children by her." And Abram agreed to what Sarai said.
For I have chosen him so that he will command his children and his house after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just. This is how the Lord will fulfill to Abraham what He promised him."
Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech, his wife, and his female slaves so that they could bear children,
She also said, "Who would have told Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age."
Now swear to me here by God that you will not break an agreement with me or with my children and descendants. As I have kept faith with you, so you will keep faith with me and with the country where you are a resident alien."
But the children inside her struggled with each other, and she said, "Why is this happening to me?" So she went to inquire of the Lord.
And she conceived again, gave birth to a son, and said, "This time I will praise the Lord." Therefore she named him Judah. Then Leah stopped having children.
When Rachel saw that she was not bearing Jacob [any children], she envied her sister. "Give me sons, or I will die!" she said to Jacob.
Jacob became angry with Rachel and said, "Am I in God's place, who has withheld children from you?"
Then she said, "Here is my slave Bilhah. Go sleep with her, and she'll bear [children] for me so that through her I too can build [a family]."
When Leah saw that she had stopped having children, she took her slave Zilpah and gave her to Jacob as a wife.
Give me my wives and my children that I have worked for, and let me go. You know how hard I have worked for you."
In fact, all the wealth that God has taken from our father belongs to us and to our children. So do whatever God has said to you."
Then Laban answered Jacob, "The daughters are my daughters; the sons, my sons; and the flocks, my flocks! Everything you see is mine! But what can I do today for these daughters of mine or for the children they have borne?
Please rescue me from the hand of my brother Esau, for I am afraid of him; otherwise, he may come and attack me, the mothers, and their children.
Now Jacob looked up and saw Esau coming toward him with 400 men. So he divided the children among Leah, Rachel, and the two female slaves.
When Esau looked up and saw the women and children, he asked, "Who are these with you?" He answered, "The children God has graciously given your servant."
Then the female slaves and their children approached [him] and bowed down.
Leah and her children also approached and bowed down, and then Joseph and Rachel approached and bowed down.
Jacob replied, "My lord knows that the children are weak, and I have nursing sheep and cattle. If they are driven hard for one day, the whole herd will die.
Let my lord go ahead of his servant. I will continue on slowly, at a pace suited to the livestock and the children, until I come to my lord at Seir."
They captured all their possessions, children, and wives, and plundered everything in the houses.
These are the children of Anah: Dishon and Oholibamah daughter of Anah.
Then Judah said to his father Israel, "Send the boy with me. We will be on our way so that we may live, and not die-neither we, nor you, nor our children.
You can settle in the land of Goshen and be near me-you, your children, and grandchildren, your sheep, cattle, and all you have.
You are also commanded, 'Do this: Take wagons from the land of Egypt for your young children, your wives, and bring your father here.
Jacob left Beer-sheba. The sons of Israel took their father Jacob in the wagons Pharaoh had sent to carry him, along with their children and their wives.
They also took their cattle and possessions they had acquired in the land of Canaan. Then Jacob and all his children with him went to Egypt.
Children born to you after them will be yours and will be recorded under the names of their brothers with regard to their inheritance.
along with all Joseph's household, his brothers, and his father's household. Only their children, their sheep, and their cattle were left in the land of Goshen.
When your children ask you, 'What does this ritual mean to you?'
But the people thirsted there for water, and grumbled against Moses. They said, "Why did you ever bring us out of Egypt to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?"
You must not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the fathers' sin, to the third and fourth [generations] of those who hate Me,
If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children belong to her master, and the man must leave alone.
"But if the slave declares: 'I love my master, my wife, and my children; I do not want to leave as a free man,'
"When men get in a fight, and hit a pregnant woman so that her children are born [prematurely], but there is no injury, the one who hit her must be fined as the woman's husband demands from him, and he must pay according to judicial assessment.
My anger will burn, and I will kill you with the sword; then your wives will be widows and your children fatherless.
maintaining faithful love to a thousand [generations], forgiving wrongdoing, rebellion, and sin. But He will not leave [the guilty] unpunished, bringing the consequences of the fathers' wrongdoing on the children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation.
But you and your sons and your daughters may eat the breast of the presentation offering and the thigh of the contribution in any ceremonially clean place, because these portions have been assigned to you and your children from the Israelites' fellowship sacrifices.
They are to bring the thigh of the contribution and the breast of the presentation offering, together with the offerings of fat portions made by fire, to wave as a presentation offering before the Lord. It will belong permanently to you and your children, as the Lord commanded."
"You are not to make any of your children pass through [the fire] to Molech. Do not profane the name of your God; I am the Lord.
"Say to the Israelites: Any Israelite or foreigner living in Israel who gives any of his children to Molech must be put to death; the people of the country are to stone him.
But if the people of the country look the other way when that man gives any of his children to Molech, and do not put him to death,
But if the priest's daughter becomes widowed or divorced, has no children, and returns to her father's house as in her youth, she may share her father's food. But no outsider may share it.
Then he and his children are to be released from you, and he may return to his clan and his ancestral property.
If he is not redeemed in any of these [ways], he and his children are to be released at the Year of Jubilee.
I will send wild animals against you that will deprive you of your children, ravage your livestock, and reduce your numbers until your roads are deserted.
But if the woman has not defiled herself and is pure, she will be unaffected and will be able to conceive children.
Why is the Lord bringing us into this land to die by the sword? Our wives and little children will become plunder. Wouldn't it be better for us to go back to Egypt?"
The Lord is slow to anger and rich in faithful love, forgiving wrongdoing and rebellion. But He will not leave [the guilty] unpunished, bringing the consequences of the fathers' wrongdoing on the children to the third and fourth generation.
I will bring your children whom you said would become plunder into the land you rejected, and they will enjoy it.
Your children will be shepherds in the wilderness for 40 years and bear the penalty for your acts of unfaithfulness until all your corpses lie [scattered] in the wilderness.
So they got away from the dwellings of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. Meanwhile, Dathan and Abiram came out and stood at the entrance of their tents with their wives, children, and infants.
The Israelites took the Midianite women and their children captive, and they plundered all their cattle, flocks, and property.
So now, kill all the male children and kill every woman who has had sexual relations with a man,

"When you have children and grandchildren and have been in the land a long time, and if you act corruptly, make an idol in the form of anything, and do what is evil in the sight of the Lord your God, provoking Him to anger,
Keep His statutes and commands, which I am giving you today, so that you and your children after you may prosper and so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you for all time."
You must not bow down to them or worship them, because I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the fathers' sin to the third and fourth [generations] of those who hate Me,
If only they had such a heart to fear Me and keep all My commands, so that they and their children will prosper forever.
Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
You must understand today that it is not your children who experienced or saw the discipline of the Lord your God: His greatness, strong hand, and outstretched arm;
Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
so that as long as the heavens are above the earth, your days and those of your children may be many in the land the Lord swore to give your fathers.
Do not eat it, so that you and your children after you will prosper, because you will be doing what is right in the Lord's sight.
Be careful to obey all these things I command you, so that you and your children after you may prosper forever, because you will be doing what is good and right in the sight of the Lord your God.
But you may take the women, children, animals, and whatever else is in the city-all its spoil-as plunder. You may enjoy the spoil of your enemies that the Lord your God has given you.
The children born to them in the third generation may enter the Lord's assembly.
"Fathers are not to be put to death for [their] children or children for [their] fathers; each person will be put to death for his own sin.
The Lord will make you prosper abundantly with children, the offspring of your livestock, and your soil's produce in the land the Lord swore to your fathers to give you.
"You will eat your children, the flesh of your sons and daughters the Lord your God has given you during the siege and hardship your enemy imposes on you.
The most sensitive and refined man among you will look grudgingly at his brother, the wife he embraces, and the rest of his children,
the afterbirth that comes out from between her legs and the children she bears, because she will secretly eat them for lack of anything [else] during the siege and hardship your enemy imposes on you within your gates.
your children, your wives, and the foreigners in your camps who cut your wood and draw your water-
"Future generations of your children who follow you and the foreigner who comes from a distant country will see the plagues of the land and the sicknesses the Lord has inflicted on it.
The hidden things belong to the Lord our God, but the revealed things belong to us and our children forever, so that we may follow all the words of this law.
and you and your children return to the Lord your God and obey Him with all your heart and all your soul by doing everything I am giving you today,
The Lord your God will make you prosper abundantly in all the work of your hands with children, the offspring of your livestock, and your soil's produce. Indeed, the Lord will again delight in your prosperity, as He delighted in that of your fathers,
Gather the people-men, women, children, and foreigners living within your gates-so that they may listen and learn to fear the Lord your God and be careful to follow all the words of this law.
Then their children who do not know [the law] will listen and learn to fear the Lord your God as long as you live in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess."
His people have acted corruptly toward Him; this is their defect-they are not His children but a devious and crooked generation.
He said: "I will hide My face from them; I will see what will become of them, for they are a perverse generation- unfaithful children.
Outside, the sword will take their children, and inside, there will be terror; the young man and the virgin [will be killed], the infant and the gray-haired man.
he said to them, "Take to heart all these words I am giving as a warning to you today, so that you may command your children to carefully follow all the words of this law.
Your wives, young children, and livestock may remain in the land Moses gave you on this side of the Jordan. But your fighting men must cross over in battle formation ahead of your brothers and help them
so that this will be a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask you, 'What do these stones mean to you?'
and he said to the Israelites, "When your children ask their fathers in the future, 'What is the meaning of these stones?'
you should tell your children, 'Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.'
