See, the virgin will become pregnantand give birth to a son,and they will name Him Immanuel, which is translated “God is with us.”
Jesus answered him, “Allow it for now, because this is the way for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him to be baptized.
And forgive us our debts,as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.[For Yours is the kingdom and the powerand the glory forever. Amen.]
So the disciples came and woke Him up, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to die!”
Suddenly they shouted, “What do You have to do with us, Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?”
“If You drive us out,” the demons begged Him, “send us into the herd of pigs.”
As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed Him, shouting, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!”
“‘An enemy did this!’ he told them.“‘So, do you want us to go and gather them up?’ the slaves asked him.
Then He dismissed the crowds and went into the house. His disciples approached Him and said, “Explain the parable of the weeds in the field to us.”
And His sisters, aren’t they all with us? So where does He get all these things?”
Then Peter replied to Him, “Explain this parable to us.”
Yet He did not say a word to her. So His disciples approached Him and urged Him, “Send her away because she cries out after us.”
Then Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it’s good for us to be here! If You want, I will make three tabernacles here: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
“Why then,” they asked Him, “did Moses command us to give divorce papers and to send her away?”
Then Peter responded to Him, “Look, we have left everything and followed You. So what will there be for us?”
“‘Because no one hired us,’ they said to him.“‘You also go to my vineyard,’ he told them.
‘These last men put in one hour, and you made them equal to us who bore the burden of the day and the burning heat!’
There were two blind men sitting by the road. When they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!”
The crowd told them to keep quiet, but they cried out all the more, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!”
Where did John’s baptism come from? From heaven or from men?”They began to argue among themselves, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say to us, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’
Tell us, therefore, what You think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
Now there were seven brothers among us. The first got married and died. Having no offspring, he left his wife to his brother.
While He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples approached Him privately and said, “Tell us, when will these things happen? And what is the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age?”
But the foolish ones said to the sensible ones, ‘Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’
“The sensible ones answered, ‘No, there won’t be enough for us and for you. Go instead to those who sell, and buy oil for yourselves.’
“Later the rest of the virgins also came and said, ‘Master, master, open up for us!’
On the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Where do You want us to prepare the Passover so You may eat it?”
But Jesus kept silent. Then the high priest said to Him, “By the living God I place You under oath: tell us if You are the Messiah, the Son of God!”
“I have sinned by betraying innocent blood,” he said.“What’s that to us?” they said. “See to it yourself!”
All the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!”
“What do You have to do with us, Jesus—Nazarene? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!”
He told the man with the paralyzed hand, “Stand before us.”
The demons begged Him, “Send us to the pigs, so we may enter them.”
Isn’t this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And aren’t His sisters here with us?” So they were offended by Him.
Then Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it’s good for us to be here! Let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—
“And many times it has thrown him into fire or water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”
John said to Him, “Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in Your name, and we tried to stop him because he wasn’t following us.”
They said, “Moses permitted us to write divorce papers and send her away.”
Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, approached Him and said, “Teacher, we want You to do something for us if we ask You.”
They answered Him, “Allow us to sit at Your right and at Your left in Your glory.”
“Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies, leaves his wife behind, and leaves no child, his brother should take the wife and produce offspring for his brother.
“Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign when all these things are about to take place?”
On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrifice the Passover lamb, His disciples asked Him, “Where do You want us to go and prepare the Passover so You may eat it?”
He will show you a large room upstairs, furnished and ready. Make the preparations for us there.”
They were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone from the entrance to the tomb for us?”
Many have undertaken to compile a narrative about the events that have been fulfilled among us,
just as the original eyewitnesses and servants of the word handed them down to us.
He has raised up a horn of salvation for usin the house of His servant David,
salvation from our enemiesand from the clutches of those who hate us.
the oath that He swore to our father Abraham. He has given us the privilege,
Because of our God’s merciful compassion, the Dawn from on high will visit us
When the angels had left them and returned to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go straight to Bethlehem and see what has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”
When His parents saw Him, they were astonished, and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for You.”
“Leave us alone! What do You have to do with us, Jesus—Nazarene? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!”
Then fear came over everyone, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen among us,” and “God has visited His people.”
When the men reached Him, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to ask You, ‘Are You the One who is to come, or should we look for someone else?’”
As the two men were departing from Him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it’s good for us to be here! Let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said.
John responded, “Master, we saw someone driving out demons in Your name, and we tried to stop him because he does not follow us.”
When the disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?”
The Seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in Your name.”
He was praying in a certain place, and when He finished, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John also taught his disciples.”
And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyonein debt to us.And do not bring us into temptation.”
One of the experts in the law answered Him, “Teacher, when You say these things You insult us too.”
“Lord,” Peter asked, “are You telling this parable to us or to everyone?”
once the homeowner gets up and shuts the door. Then you will stand outside and knock on the door, saying, ‘Lord, open up for us!’ He will answer you, ‘I don’t know you or where you’re from.’
Besides all this, a great chasm has been fixed between us and you, so that those who want to pass over from here to you cannot; neither can those from there cross over to us.’
and raised their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
“But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We don’t want this man to rule over us!’
and said to Him: “Tell us, by what authority are You doing these things? Who is it who gave You this authority?”
But if we say, ‘From men,’ all the people will stone us, because they are convinced that John was a prophet.”
“Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother has a wife, and dies childless, his brother should take the wife and produce offspring for his brother.
Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover meal for us, so we can eat it.”
They said, “If You are the Messiah, tell us.”But He said to them, “If I do tell you, you will not believe.
Neither has Herod, because he sent Him back to us. Clearly, He has done nothing to deserve death.
Then they all cried out together, “Take this man away! Release Barabbas to us!”
Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us!’
Then one of the criminals hanging there began to yell insults at Him: “Aren’t You the Messiah? Save Yourself and us!”
Moreover, some women from our group astounded us. They arrived early at the tomb,
Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they didn’t see Him.”
But they urged Him: “Stay with us, because it’s almost evening, and now the day is almost over.” So He went in to stay with them.
So they said to each other, “Weren’t our hearts ablaze within us while He was talking with us on the road and explaining the Scriptures to us?”
The Word became fleshand took up residence among us.We observed His glory, the glory as the One and Only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
“Who are you, then?” they asked. “We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What can you tell us about yourself?”
So the Jews replied to Him, “What sign of authority will You show us for doing these things?”
You aren’t greater than our father Jacob, are You? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and livestock.”
The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will explain everything to us.”
At that, the Jews argued among themselves, “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?”
In the law Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do You say?”
“You were born entirely in sin,” they replied, “and are you trying to teach us?” Then they threw him out.
Then the Jews surrounded Him and asked, “How long are You going to keep us in suspense? If You are the Messiah, tell us plainly.”
“Lord,” said Philip, “show us the Father, and that’s enough for us.”
