“Therefore this is what the Lord God says: I am going to bring a sword against you and wipe out man and animal from you.
“Son of man, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made his army labor strenuously against Tyre. Every head was made bald and every shoulder chafed, but he and his army received no compensation from Tyre for the labor he expended against it.
“Son of man, prophesy and say: This is what the Lord God says:Wail: Woe for the day!
“Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Look, it has not been bandaged—no medicine has been applied and no splint put on to bandage it so that it can grow strong enough to handle a sword.
I will strengthen the arms of Babylon’s king and place My sword in his hand. But I will break the arms of Pharaoh, and he will groan before him as a mortally wounded man.
“Son of man, say to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his hordes:Who are you like in your greatness?
“Son of man, lament for Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him:You compare yourself to a lion of the nations, but you are like a monster in the seas. You thrash about in your rivers, churn up the waters with your feet, and muddy the rivers.”
“Son of man, wail over the hordes of Egypt and bring Egypt and the daughters of mighty nations down to the underworld, to be with those who descend to the Pit:
“Son of man, speak to your people and tell them: Suppose I bring the sword against a land, and the people of that land select a man from among them, appointing him as their watchman,
“As for you, son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. When you hear a word from My mouth, give them a warning from Me.
“Now as for you, son of man, say to the house of Israel: You have said this, ‘Our transgressions and our sins are heavy on us, and we are wasting away because of them! How then can we survive?’
“Now, son of man, say to your people: The righteousness of the righteous person will not save him on the day of his transgression; neither will the wickedness of the wicked person cause him to stumble on the day he turns from his wickedness. The righteous person won’t be able to survive by his righteousness on the day he sins.
Now the hand of the Lord had been on me the evening before the fugitive arrived, and He opened my mouth before the man came to me in the morning. So my mouth was opened and I was no longer mute.
“Son of man, those who live in the ruins in the land of Israel are saying, ‘Abraham was only one person, yet he received possession of the land. But we are many; the land has been given to us as a possession.’
“Now, son of man, your people are talking about you near the city walls and in the doorways of their houses. One person speaks to another, each saying to his brother, ‘Come and hear what the message is that comes from the Lord!’
“Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel. Prophesy, and say to them: This is what the Lord God says to the shepherds: Woe to the shepherds of Israel, who have been feeding themselves! Shouldn’t the shepherds feed their flock?
“Son of man, turn your face toward Mount Seir and prophesy against it.
“Son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel and say: Mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord.
“Son of man, while the house of Israel lived in their land, they defiled it with their conduct and actions. Their behavior before Me was like menstrual impurity.
Then He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”I replied, “Lord God, only You know.”
He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man. Say to it: This is what the Lord God says: Breath, come from the four winds and breathe into these slain so that they may live!”
Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Look how they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope has perished; we are cut off.’
“Son of man, take a single stick and write on it: Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him. Then take another stick and write on it: Belonging to Joseph—the stick of Ephraim—and all the house of Israel associated with him.
“Son of man, turn your face toward Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. Prophesy against him
“Therefore prophesy, son of man, and say to Gog: This is what the Lord God says: On that day when My people Israel are dwelling securely, will you not know this
“As for you, son of man, prophesy against Gog and say: This is what the Lord God says: Look, I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal.
“Son of man, this is what the Lord God says: Tell every kind of bird and all the wild animals: Assemble and come! Gather from all around to My sacrificial feast that I am slaughtering for you, a great feast on the mountains of Israel; you will eat flesh and drink blood.
He brought me there, and I saw a man whose appearance was like bronze, with a linen cord and a measuring rod in his hand. He was standing by the gate.
He spoke to me: “Son of man, look with your eyes, listen with your ears, and pay attention to everything I am going to show you, for you have been brought here so that I might show it to you. Report everything you see to the house of Israel.”
Then the man said to me: “This chamber that faces south is for the priests who keep charge of the temple.
Then the man measured the temple; it was 175 feet long. In addition, the temple yard and the building, including its walls, were 175 feet long.
The altar was made of wood, 5¼ feet high and 3½ feet long. It had corners, and its length and sides were of wood. The man told me, “This is the table that stands before the Lord.”
Then the man led me out by way of the north gate into the outer court. He brought me to the group of chambers opposite the temple yard and opposite the building to the north.
Then the man said to me, “The northern and southern chambers that face the temple yard are the holy chambers where the priests who approach the Lord will eat the most holy offerings. There they will deposit the most holy offerings—the grain offerings, sin offerings, and restitution offerings—for the place is holy.
While the man was standing beside me, I heard someone speaking to me from the temple.
He said to me: “Son of man, this is the place of My throne and the place for the soles of My feet, where I will dwell among the Israelites forever. The house of Israel and their kings will no longer defile My holy name by their religious prostitution and by the corpses of their kings at their high places.
“As for you, son of man, describe the temple to the house of Israel, so that they may be ashamed of their iniquities. Let them measure its pattern,
Then He said to me: “Son of man, this is what the Lord God says: These are the statutes for the altar on the day it is constructed, so that burnt offerings may be sacrificed on it and blood may be sprinkled on it:
The man then brought me back toward the sanctuary’s outer gate that faced east, and it was closed.
Then the man brought me by way of the north gate to the front of the temple. I looked, and the glory of the Lord filled His temple. And I fell facedown.
The Lord said to me: “Son of man, pay attention; look with your eyes and listen with your ears to everything I tell you about all the statutes and laws of the Lord’s temple. Take careful note of the entrance of the temple along with all the exits of the sanctuary.
As the man went out east with a measuring line in his hand, he measured off a third of a mile and led me through the water. It came up to my ankles.
He asked me, “Do you see this, son of man?” Then he led me back to the bank of the river.
Then Arioch quickly brought Daniel before the king and said to him, “I have found a man among the Judean exiles who can let the king know the interpretation.”
Daniel answered the king: “No wise man, medium, diviner-priest, or astrologer is able to make known to the king the mystery he asked about.
Let his mind be changed from that of a man,and let him be given the mind of an animalfor seven periods of time.
There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. In the days of your predecessor he was found to have insight, intelligence, and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods. Your predecessor, King Nebuchadnezzar, appointed him chief of the diviners, mediums, Chaldeans, and astrologers. Your own predecessor, the king,
All the administrators of the kingdom, the prefects, satraps, advisers, and governors have agreed that the king should establish an ordinance and enforce an edict that for 30 days, anyone who petitions any god or man except you, the king, will be thrown into the lions’ den.
So they approached the king and asked about his edict: “Didn’t you sign an edict that for 30 days any man who petitions any god or man except you, the king, will be thrown into the lions’ den?”The king answered, “As a law of the Medes and Persians, the order stands and is irrevocable.”
“The first was like a lion but had eagle’s wings. I continued watching until its wings were torn off. It was lifted up from the ground, set on its feet like a man, and given a human mind.
I continued watching in the night visions, and I saw One like a son of mancoming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Daysand was escorted before Him.
While I, Daniel, was watching the vision and trying to understand it, there stood before me someone who appeared to be a man.
I heard a human voice calling from the middle of the Ulai: “Gabriel, explain the vision to this man.”
So he approached where I was standing; when he came near, I was terrified and fell facedown. “Son of man,” he said to me, “understand that the vision refers to the time of the end.”
while I was praying, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the first vision, came to me in my extreme weariness, about the time of the evening offering.
I looked up, and there was a man dressed in linen, with a belt of gold from Uphaz around his waist.
He said to me, “Daniel, you are a man treasured by God. Understand the words that I’m saying to you. Stand on your feet, for I have now been sent to you.” After he said this to me, I stood trembling.
One of them said to the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “How long until the end of these extraordinary things?”
Then I heard the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river. He raised both his hands toward heaven and swore by Him who lives eternally that it would be for a time, times, and half a time. When the power of the holy people is shattered, all these things will be completed.
Then the Lord said to me, “Go again; show love to a woman who is loved by another man and is an adulteress, just as the Lord loves the Israelites though they turn to other gods and love raisin cakes.”
I said to her, “You must live with me many days. Don’t be promiscuous or belong to any man, and I will act the same way toward you.”
The days of punishment have come;the days of retribution have come.Let Israel recognize it!The prophet is a fool, and the inspired man is insane, because of the magnitudeof your guilt and hostility.
I will not vent the full fury of My anger;I will not turn back to destroy Ephraim. For I am God and not man,the Holy One among you;I will not come in rage.
They do not push each other;each man proceeds on his own path. They dodge the arrows, never stopping.
They trample the heads of the pooron the dust of the groundand block the path of the needy.A man and his father have sexual relationswith the same girl, profaning My holy name.
He is here:the One who forms the mountains, creates the wind, and reveals His thoughts to man,the One who makes the dawn out of darknessand strides on the heights of the earth.Yahweh, the God of Hosts, is His name.
It will be like a man who flees from a liononly to have a bear confront him.He goes home and rests his hand against the wallonly to have a snake bite him.
Then he issued a decree in Nineveh:By order of the king and his nobles: No man or beast, herd or flock, is to taste anything at all. They must not eat or drink water.
Furthermore, both man and beast must be covered with sackcloth, and everyone must call out earnestly to God. Each must turn from his evil ways and from the violence he is doing.
They covet fields and seize them;they also take houses. They deprive a man of his home,a person of his inheritance.
If a man of wind comesand invents lies:“I will preach to you about wine and beer,”he would be just the preacher for this people!
But each man will sit under his grapevineand under his fig treewith no one to frighten him.For the mouth of the Lord of Hostshas promised this.
Both hands are good at accomplishing evil:the official and the judge demand a bribe;when the powerful man communicates his evil desire, they plot it together.
One who scatters is coming up against you.Man the fortifications!Watch the road!Brace yourself!Summon all your strength!
Moreover, wine betrays;an arrogant man is never at rest.He enlarges his appetite like Sheol, and like Death he is never satisfied. He gathers all the nations to himself;he collects all the peoples for himself.
I will sweep away man and animal;I will sweep away the birds of the skyand the fish of the sea,and the ruins along with the wicked.I will cut off mankindfrom the face of the earth. This is the Lord’s declaration.
If a man is carrying consecrated meat in the fold of his garment, and it touches bread, stew, wine, oil, or any other food, does it become holy?”The priests answered, “No.”
I looked out in the night and saw a man riding on a red horse. He was standing among the myrtle trees in the valley. Behind him were red, sorrel, and white horses.
Then the man standing among the myrtle trees explained, “They are the ones the Lord has sent to patrol the earth.”
I looked up and saw a man with a measuring line in his hand.
He said to him, “Run and tell this young man: Jerusalem will be inhabited without walls because of the number of people and livestock in it.”
The Lord said to Satan: “The Lord rebuke you, Satan! May the Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Isn’t this man a burning stick snatched from the fire?”
You are to tell him: This is what the Lord of Hosts says: Here is a man whose name is Branch; He will branch out from His place and build the Lord’s temple.
For prior to those days neither man nor beast had wages. There was no safety from the enemy for anyone who came or went, for I turned everyone against his neighbor.
The Lord of Hosts says this: “In those days, 10 men from nations of every language will grab the robe of a Jewish man tightly, urging: Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.”
An OracleThe word of the Lord concerning Israel.A declaration of the Lord, who stretched out the heavens, laid the foundation of the earth, and formed the spirit of man within him.
If a man still prophesies, his father and his mother who bore him will say to him: You cannot remain alive because you have spoken falsely in the name of Yahweh. When he prophesies, his father and his mother who bore him will pierce him through.
He will say: I am not a prophet; I work the land, for a man purchased me as a servant since my youth.
Sword, awake against My shepherd, against the man who is My associate—this is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts.Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered;I will also turn My hand against the little ones.
To the man who does this, may the Lord cut off any descendants from the tents of Jacob, even if they present an offering to the Lord of Hosts.
“Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me!”You ask: “How do we rob You?”“By not making the payments of the tenth and the contributions.
“They will be Mine,” says the Lord of Hosts, “a special possession on the day I am preparing. I will have compassion on them as a man has compassion on his son who serves him.
So her husband Joseph, being a righteous man, and not wanting to disgrace her publicly, decided to divorce her secretly.
But He answered, “It is written:Man must not live on bread alonebut on every word that comesfrom the mouth of God.”
What man among you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?
“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on the rock.
But everyone who hears these words of Mine and doesn’t act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.
Right away a man with a serious skin disease came up and knelt before Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”
