and Joseph her husband being righteous, and not willing to make her an example, did wish privately to send her away.
Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
and did not know her till she brought forth her son -- the first-born, and he called his name Jesus.
Then Herod, privately having called the mages, did inquire exactly from them the time of the appearing star,
And they, having heard the king, departed, and lo, the star, that they did see in the east, did go before them, till, having come, it stood over where the child was.
And having come into the house they saw the little child with Mary his mother, and falling down did him homage. And having opened their treasures, they offered to him gifts, gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
and was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt did I call my son.
Then Herod, when he realized that he had been tricked by the magi, was extremely angry, and he sent [soldiers] and put to death all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that area who were two years old and under, according to the date which he had learned from the magi.
"A voice was heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping [for] her children, and she did not want to be comforted, because {they exist no longer}."
But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.
But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:
John had clothing made of camel's hair and wore a leather belt around his waist. His diet consisted of grasshoppers and wild honey.
And having seen many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming about his baptism, he said to them, 'Brood of vipers! who did shew you to flee from the coming wrath?
and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, 'This is My Son -- the Beloved, in whom I did delight.'
and having fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he did hunger.
But Jesus answered, "It is written [Deut. 8:3], 'A person is not to live by [eating] bread only, but [instead] by [believing and obeying] every statement spoken by God.'"
Jesus said to him, "It is also written [Deut. 6:16], 'You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.'"
Then Jesus replied to him, "Get away from me Satan, for it is written [Deut. 6:13], 'You are supposed to worship the Lord your God, and serve only Him.'"
The people that sat in darkness Saw a great light, And to them that sat in the region and shadow of death, To them did light spring up.
and they, immediately, having left the nets, did follow him.
rejoice ye and be glad, because your reward is great in the heavens, for thus did they persecute the prophets who were before you.
Do not suppose that I came to throw down the law or the prophets -- I did not come to throw down, but to fulfil;
For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will by any means pass from the Law until all is accomplished.
but I -- I say to you, that every one who is looking on a woman to desire her, did already commit adultery with her in his heart.
It was also said [Deut. 24:1-3], 'Whoever divorces his wife, let it be done with a [legally binding] divorce decree, which he must give her.'
When, therefore, you do a charitable deed, do not cause a trumpet to be sounded before you, as the hypocrites do, in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be glorified by men. Verily, I say to you, They have their reward.
But when you do a charitable deed, let not your left hand know what your right hand does;
so that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
Give us today our daily bread,
So then, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy by thy name, and by thy name cast out demons, and by thy name do many mighty works?
and the rain came down, and the streams came, and the winds blew and fell upon that house, and it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock.
and the rain did descend, and the streams came, and the winds blew, and they beat on that house, and it fell, and its fall was great.'
for He was teaching them as one who had authority [to teach entirely of His own volition], and not as their scribes [who relied on others to confirm their authority].
And when he came down from the mount, great multitudes did follow him,
And behold, a leper came up to him and did him homage, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou art able to cleanse me.
Stretching out his hand, Jesus touched him, saying as he did so: "I am willing; become clean." Instantly he was made clean from his leprosy;
And Jesus having heard, did wonder, and said to those following, 'Verily I say to you, not even in Israel so great faith have I found;
and He did but touch her hand, and the fever left her; and she rose up and waited on them.
And evening having come, they brought to him many demoniacs, and he did cast out the spirits with a word, and did heal all who were ill,
that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying, 'Himself took our infirmities, and the sicknesses he did bear.'
And Jesus having seen great multitudes about him, did command to depart to the other side;
But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.
But he said to them, "Why are you cowardly, you people of little faith?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it was dead calm.
And when he had come to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes, there came out to him from the place of the dead, two who had evil spirits, so violent that no man was able to go that way.
Suddenly, they screamed, "What do you want with us, Son of God? Did you come here to torture us before the proper time?"
and those feeding did flee, and, having gone to the city, they declared all, and the matter of the demoniacs.
and the multitudes having seen, wondered, and glorified God, who did give such power to men.
And Jesus passing by thence, saw a man sitting at the tax-office, named Matthew, and saith to him, 'Be following me,' and he, having risen, did follow him.
but having gone, learn ye what is, Kindness I will, and not sacrifice, for I did not come to call righteous men, but sinners, to reformation.'
"No one ever sews a piece of undressed cloth on an old cloak. If they did, the patch put on to fill it up would tear away from the cloak, and the rent be made worse.
Also, people do not put freshly squeezed grape juice into bottles made of previously used animal skins. If they did, the [old dried-out] animal skins would break open and the grape juice would [all] leak out, and the animal skins would become useless. But people put freshly squeezed grape juice into newly prepared animal skin bottles. That way both of them will survive."
While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.
And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.
and lo, a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, having come to him behind, did touch the fringe of his garments,
He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.
But after the crowd was sent outside, Jesus entered [her room, along with her parents and three of His disciples. See Mark 5:37-40] and took her by the hand, and the young lady rose up [from the dead].
and the demon having been cast out, the dumb spake, and the multitude did wonder, saying that 'It was never so seen in Israel:'
Never did it so appear in Israel. And the Pharisees continued to say, He casts out the demons through the prince of the demons.
And [when he] saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were weary and dejected, like sheep that did not have a shepherd.
These twelve did Jesus send forth, having given command to them, saying, 'To the way of the nations go not away, and into a city of the Samaritans go not in,
Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
sufficient to the disciple that he may be as his teacher, and the servant as his lord; if the master of the house they did call Beelzeboul, how much more those of his household?
'Ye may not suppose that I came to put peace on the earth; I did not come to put peace, but a sword;
The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
As these men were going away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John:
"To what can I compare the people living today? They're like little children who sit in the marketplaces and shout to each other,
and say, We piped unto you, and ye did not dance; we wailed, and ye did not mourn.
Then began he to reproach the cities in which were done most of his mighty works, because they did not reform.
At that time did Jesus go on the sabbaths through the corn, and his disciples were hungry, and they began to pluck ears, and to eat,
But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;
How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?
'Or did ye not read in the Law, that on the sabbaths the priests in the temple do profane the sabbath, and are blameless?
And there was a man with a dead hand. And they put a question to him, saying, Is it right to make a man well on the Sabbath day? so that they might have something against him.
And how much is a man better then a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do a good deed on the Sabbath day."
'Lo, My servant, whom I did choose, My beloved, in whom My soul did delight, I will put My Spirit upon him, and judgment to the nations he shall declare,
Then they brought unto him, one demonized, blind and dumb, - and he cured him, so that the dumb did speak and see.
'But if I, by the Spirit of God, do cast out the demons, then come already unto you did the reign of God.
The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment and condemn the people living today, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah. But look something greater than Jonah is here!
The queen of the south will stand up and condemn the people living today, because she came from so far away to hear the wisdom of Solomon. But look! Something greater than Solomon is here!"
and gathered together unto him were many multitudes, so that he having gone into the boat did sit down, and all the multitude on the beach did stand,
and in his sowing, some indeed fell by the way, and the fowls did come and devour them,
And other [seed] fell on the rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and it sprang up at once because it did not have [any] depth of soil.
But [when] the sun rose it was scorched, and because it did not have [enough] root, it withered.
and others fell upon the thorns, and the thorns did come up and choke them,
But, some, fell upon the good ground, and did yield fruit, - this, indeed a hundred fold, and, that, sixty, and, the other, thirty.
