And the Lord God said, "Who told you that you were naked? Did you eat from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?"

Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father's nakedness and told his two brothers who were outside.

So Abram left, just as the Lord had told him to do, and Lot went with him. (Now Abram was 75 years old when he departed from Haran.)

A fugitive came and told Abram the Hebrew. Now Abram was living by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, the brother of Eshcol and Aner. (All these were allied by treaty with Abram.)

So Sarai said to Abram, "Since the Lord has prevented me from having children, have sexual relations with my servant. Perhaps I can have a family by her." Abram did what Sarai told him.

Abraham took his son Ishmael and every male in his household (whether born in his house or bought with money) and circumcised them on that very same day, just as God had told him to do.

Early in the morning Abimelech summoned all his servants. When he told them about all these things, they were terrified.

When God made me wander from my father's house, I told her, 'This is what you can do to show your loyalty to me: Every place we go, say about me, "He is my brother."'"

So Sarah became pregnant and bore Abraham a son in his old age at the appointed time that God had told him.

When Rebekah heard what her older son Esau had said, she quickly summoned her younger son Jacob and told him, "Look, your brother Esau is planning to get revenge by killing you.

When Jacob explained to Rachel that he was a relative of her father and the son of Rebekah, she ran and told her father.

In the morning he was troubled, so he called for all the diviner-priests of Egypt and all its wise men. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but no one could interpret them for him.

Now a young man, a Hebrew, a servant of the captain of the guards, was with us there. We told him our dreams, and he interpreted the meaning of each of our respective dreams for us.

The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven good heads of grain. So I told all this to the diviner-priests, but no one could tell me its meaning."

This is just what I told Pharaoh: God has shown Pharaoh what he is about to do.

But Joseph told them, "It is just as I said to you: You are spies!

They returned to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan and told him all the things that had happened to them, saying,

"Everything is fine," the man in charge of Joseph's household told them. "Don't be afraid. Your God and the God of your father has given you treasure in your sacks. I had your money." Then he brought Simeon out to them.

When Joseph looked up and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother's son, he said, "Is this your youngest brother, whom you told me about?" Then he said, "May God be gracious to you, my son."

"Then you told your servants, 'Bring him down to me so I can see him.'

When we returned to your servant my father, we told him the words of my lord.

They told him, "Joseph is still alive and he is ruler over all the land of Egypt!" Jacob was stunned, for he did not believe them.

Joseph went and told Pharaoh, "My father, my brothers, their flocks and herds, and all that they own have arrived from the land of Canaan. They are now in the land of Goshen."

After these things Joseph was told, "Your father is weakening." So he took his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim with him.

When Jacob was told, "Your son Joseph has just come to you," Israel regained strength and sat up on his bed.

But the midwives feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them; they let the boys live.

Moses told Aaron all the words of the Lord who had sent him and all the signs that he had commanded him.

No straw is given to your servants, but we are told, 'Make bricks!' Your servants are even being beaten, but the fault is with your people."

The Israelite foremen saw that they were in trouble when they were told, "You must not reduce the daily quota of your bricks."

Moses told this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their discouragement and hard labor.

So Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh and told him, "Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews: 'How long do you refuse to humble yourself before me? Release my people so that they may serve me!

Then Moses summoned all the elders of Israel, and told them, "Go and select for yourselves a lamb or young goat for your families, and kill the Passover animals.

Now the Israelites had done as Moses told them -- they had requested from the Egyptians silver and gold items and clothing.

Isn't this what we told you in Egypt, 'Leave us alone so that we can serve the Egyptians, because it is better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!'"

And on the sixth day they gathered twice as much food, two omers per person; and all the leaders of the community came and told Moses.

Moses told his father-in-law all that the Lord had done to Pharaoh and to Egypt for Israel's sake, and all the hardship that had come on them along the way, and how the Lord had delivered them.

The Lord said to Moses, "I am going to come to you in a dense cloud, so that the people may hear when I speak with you and so that they will always believe in you." And Moses told the words of the people to the Lord.

"Pay attention to do everything I have told you, and do not even mention the names of other gods -- do not let them be heard on your lips.

Moses came and told the people all the Lord's words and all the decisions. All the people answered together, "We are willing to do all the words that the Lord has said,"

He told the elders, "Wait for us in this place until we return to you. Here are Aaron and Hur with you. Whoever has any matters of dispute can approach them."

Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel your servants, to whom you swore by yourself and told them, 'I will multiply your descendants like the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken about I will give to your descendants, and they will inherit it forever.'"

and told Moses, "The people are bringing much more than is needed for the completion of the work which the Lord commanded us to do!"

So Moses went out and told the people the words of the Lord. He then gathered seventy men of the elders of the people and had them stand around the tabernacle.

And a young man ran and told Moses, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp!"

When Moses sent them to investigate the land of Canaan, he told them, "Go up through the Negev, and then go up into the hill country

They told Moses, "We went to the land where you sent us. It is indeed flowing with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.

When Moses told these things to all the Israelites, the people mourned greatly.

The Issacharites by their families: from Tola, the family of the Tolaites; from Puah, the family of the Puites;

So Moses told the Israelites everything, just as the Lord had commanded him.

Moses told the leaders of the tribes concerning the Israelites, "This is what the Lord has commanded:

Then you responded to me and admitted, "We have sinned against the Lord. We will now go up and fight as the Lord our God has told us to do." So you each put on your battle gear and prepared to go up to the hill country.

But the Lord told me: "Tell them this: 'Do not go up and fight, because I will not be with you and you will be defeated by your enemies.'"

Then we turned and set out toward the desert land on the way to the Red Sea just as the Lord told me to do, detouring around Mount Seir for a long time.

The Lord told Joshua, "This very day I will begin to honor you before all Israel so they will know that I am with you just as I was with Moses.

Joshua told the Israelites, "Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God!"

When the entire nation was on the other side, the Lord told Joshua,

Joshua told them, "Go in front of the ark of the Lord your God to the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to put a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the Israelite tribes.

The Lord told Joshua,

He told the Israelites, "When your children someday ask their fathers, 'What do these stones represent?'

At that time the Lord told Joshua, "Make flint knives and circumcise the Israelites once again."

The Lord told Joshua, "See, I am about to defeat Jericho for you, along with its king and its warriors.

And he told the army, "Move ahead and march around the city, with armed troops going ahead of the ark of the Lord."

The seventh time around, the priests blew the rams' horns and Joshua told the army, "Give the battle cry, for the Lord is handing the city over to you!

Joshua told the two men who had spied on the land, "Enter the prostitute's house and bring out the woman and all who belong to her as you promised her."

Achan told Joshua, "It is true. I have sinned against the Lord God of Israel in this way:

The Lord told Joshua, "Don't be afraid and don't panic! Take the whole army with you and march against Ai! See, I am handing over to you the king of Ai, along with his people, city, and land.

He told them, "Look, set an ambush behind the city. Don't go very far from the city; all of you be ready!
