and from Judaea and Jerusalem and Idumaea and from beyond the Jordan and from the district of Tyre and Sidon there came to Him a vast crowd, hearing of all that He was doing.
Therefore He spake to his disciples, that there might be a small vessel attending Him, because of the multitude, least they should throng Him: for He had healed many,
And again the crowd gathered in such numbers that there was no chance for them even to have their meals.
If there is division in a kingdom, that kingdom will come to destruction;
And if there is division in a house, that house will come to destruction;
And if Satan is at war with himself, and there is division in him, he will not keep his place but will come to an end.
There came then his brethren and his mother, and standing without, they sent to him, calling him.
And there was sitting around him a multitude, and they say unto him - Lo! thy mother and thy brethren, outside, are seeking thee!
and casting his eyes round the company, there, said he, are my mother and my brothers.
"Here are my mother and my brothers. For wherever there is one who has been obedient to God, there is my brother--my sister--and my mother."
And he began again to teach by the seaside. And there gathered together unto him much people, so greatly that he entered in to a ship, and sat in the sea, and all the people was by the seaside on the shore:
And some seed fell on rocky ground where there was not much soil, and immediately it sprouted up because the soil was so shallow.
"What the Sower sows is the Word. There are those 'on the wayside' where the Word is sown.
The ones along the path are those who have the message sown in their hearts, but as soon as it is sown there, Satan comes and carries off the message that has been sown in their hearts.
and have no root in themselves, but, only for a season are, - afterwards, when there ariseth tribulation or persecution by reason of the word, straightway, they find cause of stumbling;
Others there are who receive the seed among the thorns: these are they who have heard the Message,
Then there were those who were sown on fertile soil. These represent people who heard 'the word,' accepted it and yielded a crop of thirty, sixty and even a hundred times [as much as was planted]."
There is nothing covered which will not be seen openly, and nothing has been made secret which will not come to light.
And he said to them, Take heed what ye hear; with what measure ye mete, it shall be meted to you; and there shall be more added to you.
for whoever may have, there shall be given to him, and whoever hath not, also that which he hath shall be taken from him.'
The ground of itself produces, first the stalk, then the head; at last there is the matured grain of wheat in the head.
it is like a grain of mustard-seed, which when sown in the earth, is less than any other grain that is sown there.
And they left the people, and took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other ships.
And there comes a violent gust of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it already filled.
And He was in the stern, sleeping on a pillow: and they awaken Him, and say to Him; Teacher, is there no care to thee that we perish?
And he came out of his sleep, and gave strong orders to the wind, and said to the sea, Peace, be at rest. And the wind went down, and there was a great calm.
The wind fell, and there ensued a great calm. Then he said to them. "Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?"
And when he had got out of the boat, straight away there came to him from the place of the dead a man with an unclean spirit.
for he had often been fastened with fetters and chains and had snapped the chains and broken the fetters; and there was no one strong enough to master him,
and, crying with a loud voice, he says, "What is there to me and Thee, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure Thee by God, that Thou torment me not!"
And Jesus said, What is your name? And he made answer, My name is Legion, because there are a great number of us.
He told him, "My name is Legion, because there are many of us." He kept pleading with Jesus not to send them out of that region.
Now on the mountain side there was a great herd of pigs getting their food.
And straightaway, Jesus allowed them. And the unclean spirits having come out, entered into the swine. And the herd stampeded down the slope into the sea, and were drowned in the sea. And there were about two thousand.
And they came to Jesus and saw the demon-possessed man sitting [there] clothed and in his right mind--the one who had had the legion--and they were afraid.
And Jesus having passed over in the boat again to the other side, there was gathered a great multitude to him, and he was near the sea,
And behold there comes one of the rulers of the synagogue, by name Jairus, and seeing him, falls down at his feet;
and he went away with him. And there was following him a great multitude, and they were thronging him,
And [there was] a woman who was {suffering from hemorrhages} twelve years.
While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house, certain which said, "Thy daughter is dead: why diseasest thou the Master any further?"
They came to the home of the leader of the synagogue, and there He saw confusion, and people weeping and wailing without restraint.
and he charged them much, that no one may know this thing, and he said that there be given to her to eat.
And he went away from there, and came into his country; and his disciples went with him.
But Jesus said to them, "There is no Prophet without honour except in his own country, and among his own relatives, and in his own home."
And he was unable to do any work of power there, but only to put his hands on one or two persons who were ill, and make them well.
And he said to them, "Whenever you enter into a house, stay there until you depart from there.
And whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, [as you] go out from there, shake off the dust that is on your feet for a testimony against them."
for Herodias made her appearance there, and danc'd with such an engaging air in the eye of Herod, as well as of all the company, that the king thus addrest himself to the young lady, "ask of me whatever you please, and it shall be granted."
And he said to them, Come away by yourselves to a quiet place, and take a rest for a time. Because there were a great number coming and going, and they had no time even for food.
And the people saw them going, and a number of them, having knowledge who they were, went running there together on foot from all the towns, and got there before them.
so that when Jesus landed, he found there a numerous assembly: which rais'd his compassion, because they were like so many sheep straggling without a pastor. whereupon he gave them various instructions.
And they sat down: here a row, and there a row, by hundreds and by fifties.
There were five thousand men who ate the loaves.
for they all saw Him and were terrified. He, however, immediately spoke to them. "There is no danger," He said; "it is I; be not alarmed."
And [after they] had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and anchored [there].
and ran forth throughout all the region round about, and began to carry about in beds all that were sick, to place where they heard tell that he was there.
And there came together to him the Pharisees and certain of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem,
And when they come from the market-place, they take no food till their hands are washed; and a number of other orders there are, which have been handed down to them to keep--washings of cups and pots and brass vessels.
He replied,
There is nothing outside the man which, going into him, is able to make him unclean: but the things which come out of the man are those which make the man unclean.
"What, do even you understand so little?" exclaimed Jesus. "Do not you see that there is nothing external to a man, which by going into a man, can 'defile' him,
For it is from within, out of the hearts of men, that there come evil thoughts--unchastity, theft, murder, adultery,
And he went away from there to the country of Tyre and Sidon. And he went into a house, desiring that no man might have knowledge of it: and he was not able to keep it secret.
In those days again, when there was a great mass of people and they had no food, he made his disciples come to him and said to them,
and there being a few small fishes, he gave thanks, and order'd them to be distributed.
And there were about four thousand people: and he sent them away.
there the Pharisees being come, they began to dispute with him, and to try him, desir'd he would work some miracle in the sky.
and he sighed in his spirit and said, "Why doth this generation seek a sign? Verily I say unto you, there shall no sign be given unto this generation."
They came to Bethsaida. There some people brought a blind man to Jesus, and begged him to touch him.
And He sent him to his home, saying,
Then Jesus and His disciples left Galilee and went to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way there He was asking His disciples, "Who do people say that I am?"
And he said to them, Truly I say to you, There are some here who will have no taste of death till they see the kingdom of God come with power.
And after six days had passed, Jesus took Peter, James and John aside alone and went up to a high mountain [i.e., probably Mt. Tabor, which was nearby]. [There] His whole appearance was [miraculously] changed in front of them.
And there came before them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.
And there came a cloud overshadowing them, and there came a voice out of the cloud, This is my beloved Son: hear him.
And suddenly, on looking around, they saw that there was now no one with them but Jesus alone.
and many a time it has thrown him into the fire or into the water, to destroy him. But if there is anything you can do for him, do pity us and help us!"
Jesus said to him, "If there is anything I can do! Everything is possible for him who has faith!"
And they went out from there, through Galilee; and it was his desire that no man might have knowledge of it;
But Jesus said, Say not so: for there is no man who will do a great work in my name, and be able at the same time to say evil of me.
And, whosoever shall cause to stumble one of these little ones that believe, it is, seemly, for him, rather, if there is hung a large millstone about his neck, and he is cast into the sea.
For in hell the worm of those who are there will never die [i.e., their gnawing punishment will never cease] and the fire [there] will never go out.
Salt is excellent: but if salt is tasteless, how are you to restore its flavour? Let there be 'salt between you'; be at peace with one another."
And from there he set out [and] came to the region of Judea and the other side of the Jordan, and again crowds came together to him. And again, as he was accustomed [to do], he began to teach them.
And there came unto him Pharisees, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? trying him.
And when he was come out into the way, there came one running and kneeled to him, and asked him, "Good Master, what shall I do, that I may inherit eternal life?"
Jesus said to him, "Why callest thou me good? There is no man good but one, which is God.
And Jesus, looking on him and loving him, said, There is one thing needed: go, get money for your goods, and give it to the poor, and you will have wealth in heaven: and come with me.
Jesus said, Truly I say to you, There is no man who has given up house, or brothers, or sisters, or mother, or father, or children, or land, because of me and the good news,
Now Jesus and His disciples were [traveling] along the road, going up to Jerusalem, with Jesus moving on ahead of the others. The disciples were amazed and they followed [behind Him] fearfully. [Note: From the context, it appears their amazement was due to His eagerness to enter Jerusalem in spite of the imminent danger they felt awaited Him there]. He took the twelve apostles aside and began telling them about the things that were going to happen to Him.
"Listen!" he said. "We are going up to Jerusalem; and there the Son of Man will be betrayed to the Chief Priests and the Teachers of the Law, and they will condemn him to death, and they will give him up to the Gentiles,
And there came to him James and John, the sons of Zebedee, saying to him, Master, will you give us whatever may be our request?
When he heard that Jesus of Nazareth was there, he began to shout, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"
and *said to them,
And some of those who were there said to them, What are you doing, taking the ass?
Then Jesus entered the Temple in Jerusalem, and after looking around at everything [there], He left for Bethany with the twelve apostles, since it was evening by then. [Note: Jesus stayed overnight at Bethany during the week prior to His crucifixion. See verse 19].

And they came to Jerusalem; and he went into the Temple, and sent out those who were trading there, overturning the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who were offering doves for money;
