And Jesus entered the temple [courts] and drove out all those who were selling and buying in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those who were selling doves.
But [when] the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful [things] that he did, and the children shouting in the temple [courts] and saying, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" they were indignant.
were sore displeased, And said to him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith to them, Yea: have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?
And [when they] saw [it], the disciples were astonished, saying, "How did the fig tree wither at once?"
the baptism of John, whence was it? -- from heaven, or from men?' And they were reasoning with themselves, saying, 'If we should say, From heaven; he will say to us, Wherefore, then, did ye not believe him?
For John came unto you, in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not. But the publicans and the harlots believed him. And yet ye, though ye saw it, were not yet moved with repentance; that ye might afterward have believed him.
The owner of the farm then sent additional slaves and they were treated the same way.
And though they had a desire to take him, they were in fear of the people, because in their eyes he was a prophet.
and sent forth his servants, to call them that were bid to the wedding: and they would not come.
Again he sent forth other bondmen, saying, Speak to those who were invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner. My oxen and my fatlings have been killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding festivities.
But they were indifferent and went away, one to his farm, another to his business.
And the rest, having seized his servants, were insolent, and killed them.
Then he said to his servants, The feast is ready but the guests were not good enough.
And those bondmen having departed into the roads, they gathered together all, as many as they found, both bad and good. And the wedding was filled with those who were dining.
But when the king came in to see those who were dining, he saw there a man who was not clothed with a wedding garment.
So he said to him, 'My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding suit on?' But his lips were sealed.
So, they sent their disciples, [along] with the Herodians to Him [Note: These were members of a political party favoring King Herod], saying, "Teacher, we know that you are sincere, and that you teach the truth about God's way. You do not care for [i.e., do not fear or give in to] anyone or allow the position of any person to influence you.
And hearing it, they were full of wonder, and went away from him.
Some Sadducees [Note: These were the Jewish party that denied there was a resurrection] came to Jesus that day and asked Him,
Now there were among us seven brothers; and the first was married and at his death, having no seed, gave his wife to his brother;
Now whose wife will she be in the resurrected state, since all seven of them were married to her?"
And the people hearing it were surprised at his teaching.
But the Pharisees, having heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, were gathered together.
Now while the Pharisees were together, Jesus put a question to them, saying,
Wo unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye shut up the kingdom of heaven from men; for ye yourselves enter not in, and those who were coming in, ye suffer not to enter.
wo unto you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, who pay tithe of mint, anise, and cummin, but neglect those more important matters of the law, justice, mercy, and fidelity: these were the things ye ought to have practis'd, without neglecting however the other matters.
"It is too bad for you hypocritical experts in the law of Moses and [you] Pharisees! For you construct burial sites for the prophets and decorate the tombs of people who were righteous.
and you say, If we were in the days of our fathers we would not have been their fellow-partakers in the blood of the prophets.
"Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How many times I wanted to gather your children together {the way} a hen gathers her young together under [her] wings, and you were not willing!
And if those days were not shortened, no flesh would be saved. But because of the chosen those days will be shortened.
for there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets and shall do great miracles and wonders. Insomuch that if it were possible, even the very elect should be deceived.
And as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of man.
Because as in those days before the overflowing of the waters, they were feasting and taking wives and getting married, till the day when Noah went into the ark,
They were unaware of what was happening until the flood came and swept all of them away. That's how it will be when the Son of Man comes.
"Then the kingdom of heaven will be similar to ten bridesmaids who took their lamps and went out to meet the [bride and] groom. [Note: The picture here is that of a newly married couple returning from a festive reception to the groom's home where they continued celebrating and were welcomed by a late evening wedding party]
And five of them were foolish, and five were wise.
They that were foolish took their torches and did not take oil with them;
'And the bridegroom tarrying, they all nodded and were sleeping,
Then all those virgins were roused, and put their lamps in order.
And while they went to get oil, the master came; and those who were ready went in with him to the feast: and the door was shut.
His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful slave! You were faithful over a few [things]; I will put you [in charge] over many [things]. Enter into the joy of your master!'

Then the man who had received the one thousand came up and said, 'Master, I knew you were a hard man, who reaped where you had not sown, who gathered where you had not threshed.
And when [did you come as] a stranger, and we gave you a place to stay? Or [when were you] without adequate clothing, and we gave you something to wear?
Then the chief priests and the elders of the people were gathered together to the palace of the high priest who was called Caiaphas,
They were taking counsel together as to how they might take Jesus by trickery and kill Him.
But they were saying, "Not during the feast, so that there will not be an uproar among the people."
And [when] the disciples saw [it] they were indignant, saying, "{Why} this waste?
But Jesus was aware [of what they were up to], so said, "Why are you bothering this woman? For she has done a kind deed to me.
And [while] they were eating he said, "Truly I say to you, that one of you will betray me."
And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, "Is it I, master?"
The Son of man goes indeed, according as it is written concerning him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is delivered up; it were good for that man if he had not been born.
Now [while] they were eating Jesus took bread and, [after] giving thanks, he broke [it], and giving [it] to the disciples, he said, "Take, eat, this is my body."
And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, "So, were you not able to stay awake with me one hour?
And coming he found them again sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.
While he yet spake, Lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came: and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, which were sent from the chief priests and elders of the people.
And behold, one of them which were with Jesus, stretched out his hand and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest, and smote off his ear.
The same time said Jesus to the multitude, "Ye be come out as it were unto a thief, with swords and staves for to take me: daily I sat among you teaching in the temple, and ye took me not.
Now they that had seized Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.
But Peter followed Him from a distance [as they were going] to the courtyard of the head priest. He went inside [i.e., eventually. See John 18:15-16] and sat down with the [Jewish] officers to see how things would turn out [i.e., with Jesus' trial].
Now the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false testimony against Jesus in order that they could put him to death.
And they were not able to get it, though a number of false witnesses came.
Then they put shame on him, and were cruel to him: and some gave him blows, saying,
Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard, and a female slave came up to him [and] said, "You also were with Jesus the Galilean."
And [when he] went out to the gateway, another [female slave] saw him and said to those [who were] there, "This man was with Jesus the Nazarene."
And after a little [while] those who were standing there came up [and] said to Peter, "You really are [one] of them also, because even your accent {reveals who you are}."
So, they conferred together [and decided] to buy "The Potter's Field" with the money [Note: This was probably an abandoned field where clay had been obtained for making pottery], for use in burying people who were not from the local area.
Then was fulfilled that which was spoken through Jeremias the prophet, saying, And I took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was set a price on, whom they who were of the sons of Israel had set a price on,
And while the charges were being made against Him by the high priests and elders, He made no answer.
But, feast by feast, the governor had been wont to release one unto the multitude, a prisoner whom they were desiring.
At that time they were holding a notorious prisoner, called Barabbas.
And when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, "Whether will ye that I give loose unto you: Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?"
And the governor said, 'Why, what evil did he?' and they were crying out the more, saying, 'Let be crucified.'
Pilate perceiving he was so far from prevailing, that they were more tumultuous, he took water, and washed his hands before all the people, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: you are answerable for it.
and having plaited him a crown out of thorns they put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand, and having kneeled before him, they were mocking him, saying, 'Hail, the king of the Jews.'
And having spat upon him, they took the reed and were striking him on his head.
And [as they] were going out, they found a man of Cyrene {named} Simon. They forced this man to carry his cross.
when they were come to a place called Golgotha, a word which signifies a skull,
And they sat down [and] were watching over him there.
Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on [his] right and one on [his] left.
and those passing by were speaking evil of him, wagging their heads,
and calling, "You were to destroy the temple and build it in three days! Save yourself, if you are God's Son! Come down from the cross!"
In the same way also the chief priests, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking [him], saying,
And in the same [way] even the robbers who were crucified with him were reviling him.
Then about three in the afternoon Jesus called out in a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama, sabachthani? [Note: These words were spoken in the commonly used Aramaic language], which mean, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
And some of those who were standing there, [when they] heard [it], said, "This man is summoning Elijah!"
And others were saying, Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah comes about to save Him.
And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom, and the earth shook and the rocks were split.
And the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised,
And coming out of their resting-places, after he had come again from the dead, they went into the holy town and were seen by a number of people.
Now the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus, [when they] saw the earthquake and the things that took place, were extremely frightened, saying, "Truly this man was God's Son!"
And there were many women there, observing from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, serving him,
among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
Now Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the tomb.
And on the morrow that is after the preparation, were gathered together the chief priests, and the Pharisees, unto Pilate,
saying, Sir, we were reminded that that Deceiver said, while yet living, 'After three days I rise again;'
So they went, and made safe the place where his body was, putting a stamp on the stone, and the watchmen were with them.
His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.
And for fear of him the keepers were astunned, and became as dead men.
And having come out quickly from the sepulcher with fear and great joy, they were running to tell His disciples.
