'Down' in the Bible
Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked [following their advice and example],Nor stand in the path of sinners,Nor sit [down to rest] in the seat of scoffers (ridiculers).
I lay down and slept [safely];I awakened, for the Lord sustains me.
In peace [and with a tranquil heart] I will both lie down and sleep,For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety and confident trust.
His mischief will return on his own head,And his violence will come down on the top of his head [like loose dirt].
The nations have sunk down in the pit which they have made;In the net which they hid, their own foot has been caught.
He crushes [his prey] and crouches;And the unfortunate fall by his mighty claws.
The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the children of menTo see if there are any who understand (act wisely),Who [truly] seek after God, [longing for His wisdom and guidance].
They track us down and have now surrounded us in our steps;They set their eyes to force us to the ground,
Arise, O Lord, confront him, cast him down;Save my soul from the wicked with Your sword,
He bowed the heavens also and came down;And thick darkness was under His feet.
For You save an afflicted and humble people,But bring down those [arrogant fools] with haughty eyes.
For You have encircled me with strength for the battle;You have subdued under me those who rose up against me.
They have bowed down and fallen,But we have risen and stood upright.
I am poured out like water,And all my bones are out of joint.My heart is like wax;It is melted [by anguish] within me.
All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord,And all the families of the nations will bow down and worship before You,
All the prosperous of the earth will eat and worship;All those who go down to the dust (the dead) will bow before Him,Even he who cannot keep his soul alive.
He lets me lie down in green pastures;He leads me beside the still and quiet waters.
To you I call, O Lord,My rock, do not be deaf to me,For if You are silent to me,I will become like those who go down to the pit (grave).
Because they have no regard for the works of the LordNor the deeds of His hands,He will tear them down and not rebuild them.
O Lord, You have brought my life up from Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead);You have kept me alive, so that I would not go down to the pit (grave).
“What profit is there in my blood (death), if I go down to the pit (grave)?Will the dust praise You? Will it declare Your faithfulness [to man]?
Incline Your ear to me, deliver me quickly;Be my rock of refuge,And a strong fortress to save me.
I behaved as if grieving for my friend or my brother;I bowed down in mourning, as one who sorrows for his mother.
There those who [are perverse and] do evil have fallen;They have been thrust down and cannot rise.
For they will wither quickly like the grass,And fade like the green herb.
The wicked have drawn the sword and bent their bowTo cast down the afflicted and the needy,To slaughter those who are upright in conduct [those with personal integrity and godly character].
When he falls, he will not be hurled down,Because the Lord is the One who holds his hand and sustains him.
For Your arrows have sunk into me and penetrate deeply,And Your hand has pressed down on me and greatly disciplined me.
I am bent over and greatly bowed down;I go about mourning all day long.
Why are you in despair, O my soul?And why have you become restless and disturbed within me?Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall again praise HimFor the help of His presence.
O my God, my soul is in despair within me [the burden more than I can bear];Therefore I will [fervently] remember You from the land of the JordanAnd the peaks of [Mount] Hermon, from Mount Mizar.
Why are you in despair, O my soul?Why have you become restless and disquieted within me?Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him,The help of my countenance and my God.

Through You we will gore our enemies [like a bull];Through Your name we will trample down those who rise up against us.
For our life has melted away into the dust;Our body clings to the ground.
My [only] sacrifice [acceptable] to God is a broken spirit;A broken and contrite heart [broken with sorrow for sin, thoroughly penitent], such, O God, You will not despise.
But God will break you down forever;He will take you away and tear you away from your tent,And uproot you from the land of the living. Selah.
God has looked down from heaven upon the children of menTo see if there is anyone who understands,Who seeks after God [who requires Him, who longs for Him as essential to life].
Let death come deceitfully upon them;Let them go down alive to Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead),For evil [of every kind] is in their dwelling and in their hearts, in their midst.
But You, O God, will bring down the wicked to the pit of destruction;Men of blood and treachery will not live out half their days.But I will [boldly and unwaveringly] trust in You.
Cast them out because of their wickedness.In anger bring down the peoples, O God!
He will send from heaven and save me;He calls to account him who tramples me down. Selah.God will send out His lovingkindness and His truth.
They set a net for my steps;My very life was bowed down.They dug a pit before me;Into the midst of it they themselves have fallen. Selah.
Do not kill them, or my people will forget;Scatter them and make them wander [endlessly] back and forth by Your power, and bring them down,O Lord our shield!
They wander around for food [to devour]And growl all night if they are not satisfied.
O God, You have rejected us and cast us off. You have broken [down our defenses and scattered] us;You have been angry; O restore us and turn again to us.
Through God we will have victory,For He will trample down our enemies.
They consult only to throw him down from his high position [to dishonor him];They delight in lies.They bless with [the words of] their mouths,But inwardly they curse. Selah.
“All the earth will [bow down to] worship You [in submissive wonder],And will sing praises to You;They will praise Your name in song.” Selah.
The earth trembled;The heavens also poured down rain at the presence of God;Sinai itself trembled at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
In Your righteousness deliver me and rescue me;Incline Your ear to me and save me.
May he come down like rain on the mown grass,Like showers that water the earth.
Yes, all kings will bow down before him,All nations will serve him.
They set their mouth against the heavens,And their tongue swaggers through the earth.
Surely You set the wicked-minded and immoral on slippery places;You cast them down to destruction.
And now all the carved work [of the meeting place]They smash with hatchets and hammers.
But God is the Judge;He puts down one and lifts up another.
The clouds poured down water;The skies sent out a sound [of rumbling thunder];Your arrows (lightning) flashed here and there.
He brought streams also from the rock [at Rephidim and Kadesh]And caused waters to run down like rivers.
And He rained down manna upon them to eatAnd gave them the grain of heaven.
The wrath of God rose against themAnd killed some of the strongest of them,And subdued the choice young men of Israel.
Why have You broken down its walls and hedges,So that all who pass by pick its fruit?
Turn again [in favor to us], O God of hosts;Look down from heaven and see, and take care of this vine,
It is burned with fire, it is cut down;They perish at the rebuke of Your [angry] appearance.
Truth springs from the earth,And righteousness looks down from heaven.
All nations whom You have made shall come and kneel down in worship before You, O Lord,And they shall glorify Your name.
I am counted among those who go down to the pit (grave);I am like a man who has no strength [a mere shadow],
“I will crush his adversaries before him,And strike those who hate him.
You have broken down all his [city] walls;You have brought his strongholds to ruin.
In the morning it flourishes and springs up;In the evening it wilts and withers away.
O come, let us worship and bow down,Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker [in reverent praise and prayer].
For He looked down from His holy height [of His sanctuary],From heaven the Lord gazed on the earth,
The mountains rose, the valleys sank downTo the place which You established for them.
When the sun arises, they withdrawAnd lie down in their dens.
Therefore He humbled their heart with hard labor;They stumbled and there was no one to help.
Those who go down to the sea in ships,Who do business on great waters;
They went up toward the heavens [on the crest of the wave], they went down again to the depths [of the watery trough];Their courage melted away in their misery.
When they are diminished and bowed down (humbled)Through oppression, misery, and sorrow,
With God we will do valiantly,For it is He who will trample down our enemies.
I am vanishing like a shadow when it lengthens and fades;I am shaken off like the locust.
From the rising of the sun to its settingThe name of the Lord is to be praised [with awe-inspired reverence].
The dead do not praise the Lord,Nor do any who go down into silence;
My eyes weep streams of waterBecause people do not keep Your law.
It is like the precious oil [of consecration] poured on the head,Coming down on the beard,Even the beard of Aaron,Coming down upon the edge of his [priestly] robes [consecrating the whole body].
By the rivers of Babylon,There we [captives] sat down and wept,When we remembered Zion [the city God imprinted on our hearts].
Remember, O Lord, against the sons of Edom,The day of [the fall of] Jerusalem,Who said “Down, down [with her]To her very foundation.”
You scrutinize my path and my lying down,And You are intimately acquainted with all my ways.
For the enemy has persecuted me,He has crushed my life down to the ground;He has made me dwell in dark places, like those who have been long dead.
Answer me quickly, O Lord, my spirit fails;Do not hide Your face from me,Or I will become like those who go down into the pit (grave).
Bow Your heavens, O Lord, and come down;Touch the mountains, and they will smoke.
The Lord upholds all those [of His own] who fallAnd raises up all those who are bowed down.
The Lord opens the eyes of the blind;The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;The Lord loves the righteous [the upright in heart].
The Lord protects the strangers;He supports the fatherless and the widow;But He makes crooked the way of the wicked.
The Lord lifts up the humble;He casts the wicked down to the ground.
