'Suffering' in the Bible
To the woman He said,“I will greatly multiplyYour pain in childbirth;In pain you will give birth to children;Yet your desire and longing will be for your husband,And he will rule [with authority] over you and be responsible for you.”
Then Sarai said to Abram, “You are responsible for my suffering! I put my slave in your arms, and ever since she saw that she was pregnant, she has treated me with contempt. May the Lord judge between me and you.”
And the angel of Yahweh said to her: "Behold, you are pregnant and shall have a son. And you shall call his name Ishmael, for Yahweh has listened to your suffering.
While she was suffering due to her difficult labor, the midwife told her, "Don't fear! You're going to have another son."
He named the second child Ephraim, saying, "Certainly God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering."
"We're all guilty because of what we did to our brother!" they told each other. "We kept on watching his suffering while he pleaded with us! We're in this mess because we wouldn't listen!"
There will be no one suffering miscarriage or infertile in your land. I will make full the number of your days.
No one who may have been set apart among men shall be ransomed [from death], he shall most certainly be put to death.
He will require the woman to drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and it will enter her and cause bitter suffering.
“When he makes her drink the water, if she has defiled herself and been unfaithful to her husband, the water that brings a curse will enter her and cause bitter suffering; her belly will swell, and her thigh will shrivel. She will become a curse among her people.
surely you would not want to wait until they were old enough to marry! Surely you would not remain unmarried all that time! No, my daughters, you must not return with me. For my intense suffering is too much for you to bear. For the Lord is afflicting me!"
She made a vow saying, "O Lord of hosts, if you will look with compassion on the suffering of your female servant, remembering me and not forgetting your servant, and give a male child to your servant, then I will dedicate him to the Lord all the days of his life. His hair will never be cut."
"About this time tomorrow I'll send you a man from the land of Benjamin, and you are to anoint him as Commander-in-Chief over my people Israel. He'll deliver my people from the control of the Philistines, because I've seen the suffering of my people and because their cry has come up to me."
Naaman, the commander of the army of the king of Aram, was a great man in the opinion of his master. He was highly favored, because by him the LORD had given victory to Aram. Though he was a mighty and valiant man, he was suffering from leprosy.
The Lord saw Israel's intense suffering; everyone was weak and incapacitated and Israel had no deliverer.
whatever prayer or petitionanyone from your people Israel might have—each man knowing his own affliction and suffering,and spreading out his hands toward this temple—
“Therefore You handed them over to their enemies who oppressed them.But when they cried out to You in the time of their suffering and distress,You heard them from heaven, and according to Your great compassion You gave them people to rescue them.Who rescued them from the hand of their enemies.
Then they sat on the ground with him seven days and nights, but no one spoke a word to him because they saw that his suffering was very intense.
“Behold, how happy and fortunate is the man whom God reproves,So do not despise or reject the discipline of the Almighty [subjecting you to trial and suffering].

then I still dread all of my suffering; I know you still won't acquit me.
For you will forget your suffering,recalling it only as waters that have flowed by.
Withdraw Your hand from me and remove this bodily suffering,And let not the dread of You terrify me.

He delivers the afflicted by their afflictions, he reveals himself to them by their suffering.
“Do not let wrath entice you into scoffing;And do not let the greatness and the extent of the ransom turn you aside.
My eyes grow dim from suffering; they grow weak because of all my enemies.
Be gracious to me, O Yahweh. See my suffering from [those who] hate me, [you who] lift me up from the gates of death,
You have taken notice, for you always see one who inflicts pain and suffering. The unfortunate victim entrusts his cause to you; you deliver the fatherless.
For he did not despise or detest the suffering of the oppressed; he did not ignore him; when he cried out to him, he responded.
Deliver me from my distress; rescue me from my suffering!
Have mercy on me, for I am in distress! My eyes grow dim from suffering. I have lost my strength.

I am oppressed and suffering! O God, deliver and protect me!

(Tsade) The Lord is right to judge me! Yes, I rebelled against his commands. Please listen, all you nations, and look at my suffering! My young women and men have gone into exile.

He laid siege against me, surrounding me with bitterness and suffering.

A woman suffering from bleeding for 12 years

For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. These things are the beginning of the birth pangs [the intolerable anguish and suffering].
