The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation,
for no prophecy was ever made by the act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and excellence.
But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.
and to knowledge, self-control, and to self-control, perseverance, and to perseverance, godliness,
so there will be an entrance richly provided for you into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

And we have the prophetic word made more sure, and you will do well to pay attention to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

This is now the second letter that I have written to you, beloved, and in both of them I have aroused your sincere mind by way of reminder;

looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by fire, and the elements will melt with intense heat!

But these, like irrational animals, creatures of instinct, born to be caught and killed, reviling in matters of which they are ignorant, will be destroyed in the same destruction with them,
whereas angels, though greater in power and might, do not bring a reviling judgment against them before the Lord.
Forsaking the right way, they have gone astray, having followed the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
They have eyes full of adultery, that never cease from sin; they entice unstable souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children!
suffering wrong for their wrongdoing. They count it a pleasure to revel in the daytime. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their deceptions, as they carouse with you.
that you should remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken through your apostles.
And many will follow their licentiousness, and because of them the way of truth will be reviled.
but he was rebuked for his own transgression by a donkeya beast without speechwho spoke with a man's voice and restrained the prophet's madness.
For speaking out arrogant words of vanity, they entice by fleshly desires, by sensuality, those who barely escape from the ones who live in error.
These are springs without water and mists driven by a storm; for them the blackest darkness has been reserved.
It has happened to them according to the true proverb, "A dog turns back to its own vomit," and, "A sow, after having washed, returns to wallowing in the mire."
For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment handed on to them.
Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy lives and godliness,
They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and by means of water,
and if he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;
They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of corruption; for whatever overcomes a man, to that he is enslaved.
Therefore I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have.
and if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction by reducing them to ashes, having made them an example to those who would live ungodly thereafter;
You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your own steadfastness.
And in their greed they will exploit you with false words; from long ago their condemnation has not been idle, and their destruction has not been asleep.
Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by him in peace, spotless and blameless.
and especially those who indulge the flesh in its corrupt desire and despise authority. Bold and willful, they are not afraid to revile the glorious ones,
through which the world at that time was destroyed, being deluged with water.
