So John summoned two of his disciples and sent them to ask the Lord, "Are you the Coming One? Or are we to look out for someone else?"

To his disciples he said, "There will come days when you will long and long in vain to have even one day of the Son of man.

When he was near Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Olive-Orchard, he despatched two of his disciples,

saying, "Would that you too knew even to-day on what your peace depends! But no, it is hidden from you!

Then came the day of unleavened bread when the paschal lamb had to be sacrificed.

It was the day of the Preparation and the sabbath was just dawning.

On the sabbath they rested in obedience to God's command, but on the first day of the week at early dawn they took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.

That very day two of them were on their way to a village called Emmaus about seven miles from Jerusalem.
