So Jacob complied and fulfilled Leah’s week [of celebration]; then Laban gave him his daughter Rachel as his [second] wife.
Jacob slept with Rachel also, and indeed, he loved Rachel more than Leah. And he worked for Laban another seven years.
When the Lord saw that Leah was unloved,
Leah conceived, gave birth to a son, and named him Reuben,
Then she conceived again and gave birth to a son and said, “Because the Lord heard that I am unloved, He has given me this son also.” So she named him Simeon (God hears).
And she conceived again, gave birth to a son, and said, “This time I will praise the Lord.” Therefore she named him Judah.
Rachel noticed that she was not bearing children for Jacob, so because she envied her sister Leah, she told Jacob, "If you don't give me sons, I'm going to die!"
When Leah saw that she had stopped having children, she took her slave Zilpah and gave her to Jacob as a wife.
Leah’s slave Zilpah bore Jacob a son.
Then Leah said, “What good fortune!”
When Leah’s slave Zilpah bore Jacob a second son,
Leah said, “I am happy that the women call me happy,”
Reuben went out during the wheat harvest and found some mandrakes in the field.
But Leah replied to her, “Isn’t it enough that you have taken my husband? Now you also want to take my son’s mandrakes?”
“Well,” Rachel said, “you can sleep with him tonight in exchange for your son’s mandrakes.”
When Jacob came in from the field that evening, Leah went out to meet him and said, “You must come with me, for I have hired you with my son’s mandrakes.” So Jacob slept with her that night.
God listened to Leah, and she conceived and bore Jacob a fifth son.
Leah said, “God has rewarded me for giving my slave to my husband,” and she named him Issachar.
Then Leah conceived again and bore Jacob a sixth son.
“God has given me a good gift,” Leah said. “This time my husband will honor me because I have borne six sons for him,” and she named him Zebulun.
Jacob had Rachel and Leah called to the field where his flocks were.
And he said, Lift up now thine eyes, and see: all the rams that leap upon the flock are ringstraked, speckled, and spotted; for I have seen all that Laban does to thee.
Then Rachel and Leah answered him, “Do we have any portion or inheritance in our father’s household?
And he will lead away all his cattle and all his horse which he acquired, the cattle of his acquisition, which he acquired in Padan Aram, to go to Isaak his father in the land of Canaan.
And Laban saith to Jacob, 'What hast thou done that thou dost deceive my heart, and lead away my daughters as captives of the sword?
So Laban went into Jacob’s tent, then Leah’s tent, and then the tents of the two female slaves, but he found nothing. Then he left Leah’s tent and entered Rachel’s.
Now Jacob looked up and saw Esau coming toward him with 400 men. So he divided the children among Leah, Rachel, and the two female slaves.
He put the female slaves and their children first, Leah and her children next, and Rachel and Joseph last.
Leah and her children also approached and bowed down, and then Joseph and Rachel approached and bowed down.
Let my lord, I pray thee pass over before his servant, and let, me, lead on in my own easy way, at the pace of the cattle that are before me, and at the pace of the children, until that I come in unto my lord, towards Seir.
