How true that saying is! And it is on these subjects that I desire you to lay especial stress, so that those who have learned to trust in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing good. Such subjects are excellent in themselves, and of real use to mankind.
I pray that by their participation in your loyal faith they may have a vivid sense of how much good we Christians can attain.

We belong to God. The person who knows God listens to us. Whoever does not belong to God does not listen to us. This is how we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of deceit.
This is how God's love was revealed among us: God sent his unique Son into the world so that we might live through him.
This is how we know that we abide in him and he in us: he has given us his Spirit.
This is how love has been perfected among us: we will have confidence on the day of judgment because, during our time in this world, we are just like him.
If any person say, I love God, yet hateth his brother, he is a liar; for he who loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love the God whom he hath not seen?
This is how we can be sure that we love the children of God: it is by loving God and obeying his commands.
