Then he propos'd this parable, concerning those who had a great opinion of their own justice, and look'd with contempt upon others.
"But the tax collector stood at a distance and would not even look up to heaven. Instead, he continued to beat his chest and said, "O God, be merciful to me, the sinner that I am!'
Jesus, however, called for the children and said, "Let the little children come to me, and stop keeping them away, because the kingdom of God belongs to people like these.
When Jesus heard this, He said to him,
Then Peter said, “Look, we have left what we had and followed
Then Jesus took the twelve aside and said to them, "Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished.
He was trying to get a look at Jesus, but being a short man he could not see over the crowd.
So, he ran on ahead [of the crowd] and climbed up a mulberry tree [Note: This was a tree that produced a fig-like fruit] in order to see Jesus, who was supposed to pass that way [soon].
as soon as Jesus came at the place, he look'd up, and seeing him, Zaccheus, said he, make haste down; for I intend to dine at your house to-day.
But Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, “Look, I’ll give
"Then the other servant came and said, "Sir, look! Here's your coin. I've kept it in a cloth for safekeeping
They put this question to him, "Teacher, we know you are straight in what you say and teach, you do not look to human favour but teach the Way of God honestly.
And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.
for neither are they able to die any more -- for they are like messengers -- and they are sons of God, being sons of the rising again.

When they begin to sprout their leaves you know when you look at them, without being told, that summer is near.
in like manner, when you shall see these events, be assur'd that the kingdom of God is nigh.
Judas accepted their offer and began to look for a good opportunity to betray Jesus to them when no crowd was present.
And He replied to them, "Look, when you have entered the city, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you; follow him into whatever house he goes.

He said therefore to them, But now he that has a purse let him take it, in like manner also a scrip, and he that has none let him sell his garment and buy a sword;
And being in agony [deeply distressed and anguished; almost to the point of death], He prayed more intently; and His
While He was still speaking, look! a crowd had come up, and Judas, one of the Twelve, was their guide; and he stepped up to Jesus to kiss Him.
Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders who had come out to get him, "Have you come out with swords and clubs like you would against an outlaw?
A maidservant who noticed him sitting by the fire took a long look at him and said, "That fellow was with him too."
And the Lord having turned did look on Peter, and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he said to him -- 'Before a cock shall crow, thou mayest disown me thrice;'
and said to them, "You brought this man to me, claiming he was inciting people to disloyalty [i.e., to the government]. And look, I questioned him in front of you people but did not find him guilty of the charges you
Neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Look, he has done nothing deserving death.
As for his acquaintances, they were all standing at a distance to look on, with the women who had accompanied him from Galilee.
And look, a man named Joseph, who was a member of the council, a good and righteous man
So, they went in [i.e., into the cave-like tomb], but did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
At this they were in great perplexity, when suddenly there stood by them two men whose raiment flashed like lightning.
and as the women were terrified and were bowing their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why are you looking for the living One among the dead?
Now the women who told these things to the apostles were Mary from Magdala; Joanna [Note: This was the wife of Chuzas, Herod's property manager. See Luke 8:3], and other women who were with them.
But these words seemed like nonsense to them, and they did not believe
But Peter got up [and] ran to the tomb, and bending over to look, he saw only the [strips of] linen cloth, and he went away to his home wondering what had happened.
And look, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was sixty stadia from Jerusalem.
and he said to them, what is the subject of your debate in the way, and why do you look so sad?
And some of those with us went out to the tomb and found [it] like this, just as the women had also said, but him they did not see."
They drew near to the village, where they were going, and he acted like he would go further.
Look at my hands and my feet, that I am I myself! Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as {you see that I have}."
The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God
And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
Now Philip was from Bethsaida, Andrew's and Peter's home town. [Note: This town was on the northwest shore of Lake Galilee, a few miles from Capernaum].
Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said about him, "Look! {A true Israelite} in whom is no deceit!"
Then Jesus said to him, "Truly, truly, I tell you, you will see heaven opened up and the angels of God going up [from] and coming down on the Son of man" [i.e., probably a reference to angels ministering to Jesus' needs. See Matt. 4:6, 11; Luke 22:43].
After this incident, Jesus, His mother, His [half-] brothers and His disciples went down to Capernaum [i.e., located on the north shore of Lake Galilee] and stayed there a few days.
and didn't need anyone to tell him what people were like, because he himself knew what was in every person.
And [just] like Moses lifted up the snake [on the pole] in the wilderness [Num. 21:9], so the Son of man must be lifted up [on the cross]
And they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, he who was with you on the other side of the Jordan, about whom you testified--look, this one is baptizing, and all are coming to him!"
He, that cometh from above, is above all: he that is of the earth, is earthly, and talketh like one of the earth:
"How is it," replied the woman, "that a Jew like you asks me, who am a woman and a Samaritan, for water?" (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)
Yet the time is coming, and is now here, when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. Indeed, the Father is looking for people like that to worship him.
"Come here, look at a man who has told me everything I ever did! Can he be the Christ?"
Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet does not receive honor in his own country. [Note: Jesus' reference here to his "own country" means Judea, while in Matt., Mark and Luke it refers to Nazareth].
After these [things] Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, "Look, you have become well! Sin no longer, lest something worse happen to you."
And this was why the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did things like this on the sabbath.
Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father doing: for what things soever he doeth, these the Son also doeth in like manner.
For, just as the Father waketh up the dead, and quickeneth them, in like manner, the Son also, whom he pleaseth, doth quicken.
For, just as, the Father, hath life, in himself, in like manner, unto the Son also, hath he given, life, to have, in himself;
"I cannot do anything by my own [authority]. I judge [people] based on what I hear [i.e., from the Father] and my judgment [of them] is just, because I do not look for what I want [to do], but for what He who sent me [i.e., God] wants.
How can you believe when you accept each other's praise and do not look for the praise that comes from the only God?
After this Jesus went away across the Lake of Galilee (that is, the Lake of Tiberias)
Then Jesus went up to a high plateau [Note: This place, northeast of Lake Galilee, is called "The Golan Heights," today] and sat down there with His disciples.
And Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks, distributed them to those that were set down; and in like manner of the small fishes as much as they would.
When evening came on, His disciples went down to the Lake.
There they got on board a boat, and pushed off to cross the Lake to Capernaum. By this time it had become dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them.
Then, when they had rowed about three or four miles, they caught sight of Jesus walking on the lake, approaching the boat, and they were frightened.
So, they eagerly took Him into their boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading [i.e., to Capernaum, on the northwest side of the lake].
Next morning the crowd who were still standing about on the other side of the Lake found that there had been but one small boat there, and they had seen that Jesus did not go on board with His disciples, but that His disciples went away without Him.
(However, meanwhile, some other [small] boats had come from Tiberias [i.e., a small town on the west side of the lake] near where they had eaten bread after the Lord had given thanks).
When however the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor His disciples were there, they themselves also took boats and came to Capernaum to look for Jesus.
And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they asked Him, “Rabbi, when did You get here?”
Then the Jews murmured at him, because he said, I am like bread that came down from heaven.
