'Poor' in the Bible
to keep the poor from getting a fair trialand to deprive the afflicted among my people of justice,so that widows can be their spoiland they can plunder the fatherless.
but He will judge the poor righteouslyand execute justice for the oppressed of the land.He will strike the landwith discipline from His mouth,and He will kill the wickedwith a command from His lips.
Then the firstborn of the poor will be well fed,and the impoverished will lie down in safety,but I will kill your root with hunger,and your remnant will be slain.
For You have been a stronghold for the poor,a stronghold for the needy person in his distress,a refuge from the rain, a shade from the heat.When the breath of the violentis like rain against a wall,
Feet trample it,the feet of the humble,the steps of the poor.
The humble will have joyafter joy in the Lord,and the poor people will rejoicein the Holy One of Israel.
The scoundrel’s weapons are destructive;he hatches plots to destroy the needy with lies,even when the poor says what is right.
The poor and the needy seek water, but there is none;their tongues are parched with thirst.I, Yahweh, will answer them;I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.
“Poor Jerusalem, storm-tossed, and not comforted,I will set your stones in black mortar,and lay your foundations in sapphires.
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,to bring the poor and homeless into your house,to clothe the naked when you see him,and not to ignore your own flesh and blood?
The Spirit of the Lord God is on Me,because the Lord has anointed Meto bring good news to the poor.He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,to proclaim liberty to the captivesand freedom to the prisoners;
Moreover, your skirts are stainedwith the blood of the innocent poor.You did not catch them breaking and entering.But in spite of all these things

He keeps his hand from harming the poor, not taking interest or profit on a loan. He practices My ordinances and follows My statutes. Such a person will not die for his father’s iniquity. He will certainly live.
The people of the land have practiced extortion and committed robbery. They have oppressed the poor and needy and unlawfully exploited the foreign resident.
They trample the heads of the pooron the dust of the groundand block the path of the needy.A man and his father have sexual relationswith the same girl,profaning My holy name.
Listen to this message, you cows of Bashanwho are on the hill of Samaria,women who oppress the poorand crush the needy,who say to their husbands,“Bring us something to drink.”
Therefore, because you trample on the poorand exact a grain tax from him,you will never live in the houses of cut stoneyou have built;you will never drink the winefrom the lush vineyardsyou have planted.
For I know your crimes are manyand your sins innumerable.They oppress the righteous, take a bribe,and deprive the poor of justice at the gates.
Hear this, you who trample on the needyand do away with the poor of the land,
We can buy the poor with silverand the needy for a pair of sandalsand even sell the chaff!”
Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor, and do not plot evil in your hearts against one another.
“The poor in spirit are blessed,for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
So whenever you give to the poor, don’t sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be applauded by people. I assure you: They’ve got their reward!
But when you give to the poor, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
the blind see, the lame walk, those with skin diseases are healed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor are told the good news.
“If you want to be perfect,” Jesus said to him, “go, sell your belongings and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”
“This might have been sold for a great deal and given to the poor.”
You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me.
Then, looking at him, Jesus loved him and said to him, “You lack one thing: Go, sell all you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”
And a poor widow came and dropped in two tiny coins worth very little.

For this oil might have been sold for more than 300 denarii and given to the poor.” And they began to scold her.
You always have the poor with you, and you can do what is good for them whenever you want, but you do not always have Me.
The Spirit of the Lord is on Me,because He has anointed Meto preach good news to the poor.He has sent Meto proclaim freedom to the captivesand recovery of sight to the blind,to set free the oppressed,
Then looking up at His disciples, He said:You who are poor are blessed,because the kingdom of God is yours.
He replied to them, “Go and report to John the things you have seen and heard: The blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those with skin diseases are healed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor are told the good news.
Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Make money-bags for yourselves that won’t grow old, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.
On the contrary, when you host a banquet, invite those who are poor, maimed, lame, or blind.
“So the slave came back and reported these things to his master. Then in anger, the master of the house told his slave, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the city, and bring in here the poor, maimed, blind, and lame!’
But a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, was left at his gate.
One day the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.
When Jesus heard this, He told him, “You still lack one thing: Sell all that you have and distribute it to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”

“Why wasn’t this fragrant oil sold for 300 denarii and given to the poor?”
He didn’t say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief. He was in charge of the money-bag and would steal part of what was put in it.
For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me.”
Since Judas kept the money-bag, some thought that Jesus was telling him, “Buy what we need for the festival,” or that he should give something to the poor.

Because you say, ‘I’m rich; I have become wealthy and need nothing,’ and you don’t know that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked,
And he requires everyone—small and great, rich and poor, free and slave—to be given a mark on his right hand or on his forehead,
