A muddied spring or a polluted well that's what a righteous person is who compromises with the wicked.

Useless legs to the lame that's what a proverb quoted by a fool is.

Tying a stone to a sling that's what giving honor to a fool is.

A thorn in the hand of a drunkard that's what a proverb quoted by a fool is.

Picking up a dog by the ears that's what someone is like who meddles in another's fight.

that's what someone is like who lies to his neighbor and then says, "I was joking, wasn't I?"

A clay vessel plated with a thin veneer of silver that's what smooth lips with a wicked heart are.

With his lips the hater makes things seem what they are not, but deceit is stored up inside him;

Boast not thyself of tomorrow; For thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

The heating-pot is for silver and the oven-fire for gold, and a man is measured by what he is praised for.

Evil men have no knowledge of what is right; but those who go after the Lord have knowledge of all things.

The one who leads the upright into an evil way
will fall into his own pit,

He who takes from his father or his mother what is theirs by right, and says, It is no sin; is the same as a taker of life.

I never acquired wisdom, but I know what the Holy One knows.

Whenever I wanted something I had seen, I never refused that desire. Instead, I enjoyed everything I did, and this became the reward in what I had undertaken.

When I considered all that I had accomplished and what I had labored to achieve, I found everything to be futile and a pursuit of the wind. There was nothing to be gained under the sun.

And I turned myself to behold wisdom, and madness, and folly: for what can the man do that cometh after the king? even that which hath been done long ago.

So I said to myself, “What happens to the fool will also happen to me. Why then have I been overly wise?” And I said to myself that this is also futile.

So I loathed life because what happens on earth seems awful to me; for all the benefits of wisdom are futile -- like chasing the wind.

For what hath a man of all his labor, and of the striving of his heart, wherein he laboreth under the sun?
