The sick man answered him, "Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me."
But he answered them, "The man who made me well said to me, 'Take up your bed, and walk.'"
But Jesus answered them, "My Father is working still, and I am working."
Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of himself, but only what he sees the Father doing; for whatever he does, the Son also does.
For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son,
Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears my word and believes him who sent me, has eternal life; and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
"I can do nothing of myself; as I hear, I judge; and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me.
Not that the testimony which I receive is from man; but I say this that you may be saved.
But the testimony which I have is greater than that of John; for the works which the Father has given me to finish, these very works which I am doing, bear witness of me, that the Father has sent me.
But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you.
But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?"
But this he said to test him, for he himself knew what he would do.
"There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?"
On the next day the people who remained on the other side of the sea saw that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with his disciples, but that his disciples had gone away alone.
Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves.
Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you; for on him has God the Father set his seal."
Jesus then said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven; but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.
But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe.
For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.
And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up at the last day.
But there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray him.
Jesus said to them, "My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.
The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify of it that its works are evil.
But after his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly, but in secret.
Jesus answered them, "My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.
He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but he who seeks the glory of the One who sent him is true, and in him there is no falsehood.
Moses therefore gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.
Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment."
But we know where this man is from; when the Christ comes, no one will know where he is from."
Then Jesus cried out, as he taught in the temple, "You know me, and you know where I am from; and I have not come on my own, but he who sent me is true, and him you do not know.
Then they sought to take him; but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.
Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "Will the Christ come from Galilee?
Some of them wanted to seize him, but no one laid hands on him.
But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed."
They said this to test him, that they might have something of which to accuse him. But Jesus bent down and wrote on the ground with his finger.
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
Jesus answered, "Even if I bear witness of myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from and where I am going.
And yet if I do judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me.
These words he spoke in the treasury, as he taught in the temple; but no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.
I have much to say about you and much to judge; but he who sent me is true, and I declare to the world what I have heard from him."
So Jesus said, "When you have lifted up the Son of man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority but speak just what the Father taught me.
And a slave does not continue in the house forever, but a son continues forever.
but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did.
Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I proceeded and came forth from God; I have not come of my own accord, but he sent me.
But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me.
Jesus answered, "I do not have a demon; but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me.
But you have not known him; I know him. If I said, I do not know him, I would be a liar like you; but I do know him and keep his word.
So they took up stones to throw at him; but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple.
Jesus answered, "Neither this man sinned nor his parents sinned. But that the works of God might be revealed in him,
Some said, "It is he." Others said, "No, but he is like him." He said, "I am the man."
Some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath." But others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" And there was a division among them.
but how he now sees we do not know, nor do we know who opened his eyes. Ask him. He is of age; he will speak for himself."
Then they reviled him and said, "You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.
We know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this fellow, we do not know where he comes from."
We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if any one is a worshiper of God and does his will, he listens to him.
Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, 'We see,' your sin remains.
"Truly, truly, I say to you, the man who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs in by some other way, he is a thief and a robber.
But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers."
This figure Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.
All who ever came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.
But he who is a hireling and not the shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf snatches the sheep and scatters them.
No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from my Father."
but you do not believe, because you are not of my sheep.
The Jews answered him, "For a good work we do not stone you, but for blasphemy, and because you, being a man, make yourself God."
but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I am in the Father."
Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped from their hands.
And many came to him and they said, "John performed no sign, but all that John said about this man was true."
When Jesus heard it, he said, "This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it."
But if one walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him."
These things he said, and after that he said to them, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I go to wake him up."
Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he meant taking rest in sleep.
and for your sake I am glad that I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him."
When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary sat in the house.
But even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you."
Now Jesus had not yet come to the village, but was still in the place where Martha had met him.
But some of them said, "Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?"
I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing by, that they may believe that you sent me."
But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done.
But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, "You know nothing at all!
He did not say this on his own, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,
and not for that nation only, but also that he would gather together into one the children of God who were scattered abroad.
Jesus therefore no longer went about openly among the Jews, but went from there to the country near the wilderness, to a town called Ephraim; and there he stayed with his disciples.
But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, said,
This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief; and as he had the money box, he used to take what was put into it.
The poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me."
Now a great crowd of the Jews learned that he was there, and they came, not only on account of Jesus but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.
His disciples did not understand this at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and that they had done these things to him.
Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.
Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue;
Then Jesus cried out and said, "He who believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me.
