Therefore, every person who acknowledges me in front of people [i.e., to be their Lord and Christ], I will acknowledge him [i.e., to be my disciple] in front of my Father in heaven.
But whoever disowns me in front of people [i.e., denies that I am the Christ, or that he is a disciple. See John 18:15-17, 25-27], I will disown him in front of my Father in heaven.
Now [when] John heard in prison the deeds of Christ, he sent [word] by his disciples
And Simon Peter answered [and] said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God!"
Then he commanded the disciples that they should tell no one that he was the Christ.
From that time, began Jesus Christ to be pointing out to his disciples that he must needs, into Jerusalem, go away, and, many things, suffer, from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, - and on, the third day, arise.

In the same way, it is not the will of your Father in heaven that [a single] one of these little ones [i.e., humble followers of Christ] should be lost.
While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, Saying, What think ye of Christ?
saying: What think you of the Christ? whose son is he? They said to him: The son of David.
And ye -- ye may not be called Rabbi, for one is your director -- the Christ, and all ye are brethren;
And do not be called teachers, because one is your teacher, the Christ.
For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and they will deceive many.
"At that time if anyone should say to you, 'Behold, here [is] the Christ,' or 'Here [he is],' do not believe [him]!
Therefore, if people say to you, 'Look, he [i.e., Christ. See verse 23] is in the desert,' do not go out there. [Or if they say], 'Look, he is in an inside room,' do not believe him.
Wherever there is a dead body, [you can expect to see] vultures gathered there. [Note: This may mean that such a significant event as the coming of Christ would surely not go unnoticed].
But Jesus held his peace. And the chief priest answered, and said to him, "I charge thee in the name of the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be Christ the son of God."

And when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, "Whether will ye that I give loose unto you: Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?"
Barabbas, or Jesus, who is called Christ? for he knew that out of envy they had delivered Him up.
Pilate said unto them, "What shall I do then with Jesus, which is called Christ?" They all said to him, "Let him be crucified."
And coming out of their tombs after Christ's resurrection they entered the holy city and showed themselves to many.

and he cured many that were sick with divers diseases, and, many demons, he cast out, and suffered not the demons to be talking, - because they knew him to be Christ.
And he said unto them, "But whom say ye that I am?" Peter answered and said unto him, "Thou art very Christ."
"And whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink for my name's sake because ye are belonging to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
And Jesus, as he was teaching in the temple, answered and said: How say the scribes that the Christ is the son of David?
For many shall come in my name, saying, 'I am Christ,' and shall deceive many.
And then, if any one say to you: Lo! here is the Christ, or, Lo! there; believe him not.
But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and saith unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
And the chief priests likewise scoffing at Him among themselves, with the scribes, said, He saved others, Himself He cannot save: let Christ,
Let the Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reproached him.
Afterwards he appeared at table to the eleven themselves and reproached them for their unbelief and dulness of mind, because they had not believed those who saw him risen from the dead. [But they excused themselves, saying, "This age of lawlessness and unbelief lies under the sway of Satan, who will not allow what lies under the unclean spirits to understand the truth and power of God; therefore," they said to Christ, "reveal your righteousness now." Christ answered them, "The term of years for Satan's power has now expired, but other terrors are at hand. I was delivered to death on behalf of sinners, that they might return to the truth and sin no more, that they might inherit that glory of righteousness which is spiritual and imperishable in heaven."]
exactly as they were handed down to us by those [with personal experience] who from the beginning [of Christ’s ministry] were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word [that is, of the teaching concerning salvation through faith in Christ],
For on this day, in the town of David, a Saviour has come to birth, who is Christ the Lord.
And he had knowledge, through the Holy Spirit, that he would not see death till he had seen the Lord's Christ.
And while the people were waiting, and all men were questioning in their hearts about John, if he was the Christ or not,
whether perhaps he were the Christ, John answered, saying to all of them. "I indeed am baptizing you in water, but One is coming after me, mightier than I, whose shoe-latchet I am not worthy to unloose. He shall baptize you in the Holy Ghost and in fire.
And evil spirits came out of a number of them, crying out and saying, You are the Son of God. But he gave them sharp orders not to say a word, because they had knowledge that he was the Christ.
And He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answered and said, The Christ the Son of God.
Peter answering said, The Christ of God. But he straitly charged and commanded them,
"And I tell you, every person who acknowledges me in front of people [i.e., to be his Lord and Christ], the Son of man will also acknowledge him in front of God's angels.
But that person who disowns me in front of people [i.e., denies that I am the Christ, or that he is a disciple. See John 18:15-17, 25-27], will be disowned in front of God's angels.
Then He said to them, "How do people say that the Christ is David's Son?
And he said, See that you be not deceived; for many shall come in my name, saying, I am [Christ], and the time is at hand; go not after them.
And then they will see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great splendor [Note: This no doubt refers to the second coming of Christ. See II Pet. 3:9-10; Matt. 24:30-31; Rev. 1:7].
And, when it became day, the Eldership of the people was gathered together - both High-priests and Scribes, - and they led him away into their high-council, saying - If, thou, art the Christ, tell us!
"Tell us, if you are the Christ." But He said to them, "If I tell you, you will not believe me,
So, they all asked [Him], "Then are you the Son of God?" And He answered them, "You [are right to] say that I am [the Christ]."
And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this man perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ a king.
And the people stood watching; but even the rulers sneered at him, saying, "He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen One."
Meanwhile, the people stood looking on. Even the members of the council were scoffing at Him and saying, "He saved others, let Him now save Himself, if He really is the Christ of God, His Chosen One!"
One of the criminals who were hanged there hurled insults at him, saying, "Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!"
Now one of the criminals who were hanging from their crosses kept abusing Him, saying, "Are you not the Christ? Then save yourself and us too!"
Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and thus to enter into His glory?"
and said to them, "The Scriptures said that the Christ should suffer as He has suffered, should rise from the dead on the third day,
In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (
And the Word (Christ) became flesh, and lived among us; and we [actually] saw His glory, glory as belongs to the [One and] only begotten Son of the Father, [the Son who is truly unique, the only One of His kind, who is] full of grace and truth (absolutely free of deception).
For the law was given by Moses, but the grace and the reality came by Jesus Christ.
He frankly admitted, and did not try at all to deny it; yes, he frankly admitted, "I am not the Christ."

And lo, he speaketh openly, and they say nothing unto him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is the Christ?

But of the multitude many believed on him; and they said, When the Christ shall come, will he do more signs than those which this man hath done?

Therefore I said to you, You shall die in your sins; for if you believe not that I am [the Christ], you shall die in your sins.

These things said his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man should confess him to be Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.
