According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it.
If any man's work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.
But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you, or by any human court; I do not even judge myself.
I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not acquitted by this. It is the Lord who judges me.
Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of men's hearts. Then every man will receive his praise from God.
We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are distinguished, but we are without honor.
I do not write this to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children.
But I will come to you soon, if the Lord wills, and I will find out, not the words of these arrogant people, but their power.
For the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power.
Let us, therefore, celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any one who bears the name of brother if he is an immoral person, or greedy, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindlernot even to eat with such a one.
but brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers?
And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
"All things are lawful for me," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful for me," but I will not be mastered by anything.
"Food is for the stomach and the stomach for food"but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
But he who unites himself with the Lord is one spirit with him.
Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.
But because of immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband.
The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; and likewise also the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.
I wish that all men were as I myself am. But each man has his own gift from God, one in this manner and another in that.
But I say to the unmarried and to the widows that it is good for them if they remain even as I.
But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry; for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.
To the married I give charge, not I but the Lord, that the wife should not separate from her husband
(but if she does leave, she must remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband should not divorce his wife.
But to the rest I say, not the Lord, that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he must not divorce her.
For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her husband. Otherwise, your children would be unclean, but as it is they are holy.
But if the unbelieving partner leaves, let him do so; in such a case the brother or sister is not bound. For God has called us to peace.
Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing, but keeping the commandments of God is what counts.
Now concerning virgins, I have no command of the Lord, but I give my opinion as one who by the Lord's mercy is trustworthy.
But if you marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. Yet those who marry will have troubles in this flesh, and I am trying to spare you.
But I want you to be free from concern. One who is unmarried is concerned about the affairs of the Lord, how he may please the Lord;
but a married man is concerned about the affairs of the world, how he may please his wife,
and his interests are divided. The unmarried woman, and the virgin, is concerned about the affairs of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and spirit; but the married woman is concerned about the affairs of the world, how she may please her husband.
This I say for your own benefit, not to put a restraint upon you, but to promote what is good and to secure undivided devotion to the Lord.
But if any man thinks that he is not acting properly toward his betrothed, if she is past her youth, and if it must be so, let him do what he wishes, he does not sin; let them marry.
But he who stands firm in his heart, being under no constraint, but has control over his own will, and has decided this in his own heart, to keep her as his betrothed, he will do well.
A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord.
But in my judgment she is happier if she remains as she is; and I think that I also have the Spirit of God.
Now concerning food sacrificed to idols: we know that we all possess knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.
But if anyone loves God, he is known by him.
Therefore concerning the eating of food sacrificed to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no God but one.
yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we exist.
However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, being accustomed to idols, eat food as really sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
But food will not commend us to God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.
But take care that this liberty of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.
If others share this right of support from you, do not we all the more? Nevertheless, we did not make use of this right, but we endure anything rather than put an obstacle in the way of the gospel of Christ.
But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing this in the hope that you will do such things for me. I would rather die than have anyone deprive me of my ground for boasting.
For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward; but if it is not of my will, I have a stewardship entrusted to me.
To those who are without law, I became as one without law, though not being without the law of God but under the law of Christ, so that I might win those who are without the law.
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.
Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.
But I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.
No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man. And God is faithful, who will not let you be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
No, but I say that the things pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be partners with demons.
"All things are lawful," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful," but not all things build up.
Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor.
But if anyone says to you, "This has been offered in sacrifice," then do not eat it, both for the sake of the man who informed you and for conscience' sake
just as I try to please all men in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.
But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ.
But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her headit is the same as if her head were shaved.
For if a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; but if it is disgraceful for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, let her cover her head.
For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.
For man does not originate from woman, but woman from man;
neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.
but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering.
But in the following instructions, I do not praise you, because you come together not for the better but for the worse.
But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged.
But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord so that we will not be condemned along with the world.
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit.
And there are varieties of service, but the same Lord.
There are varieties of working, but the same God who works all of them in all men.
But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as he wills.
For the body is not made up of one member but of many.
But now God has arranged the members in the body, each one of them, just as he desired.
As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
while our more presentable members have no need of it. But God has so composed the body, giving the greater honor to the parts that lacked it,
so that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.
But earnestly desire the greater gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way.
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
If I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
If I give all I have to the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
it does not rejoice in evil, but rejoices with the truth.
Love never fails; but where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know fullyeven as I have been fully known.
So now faith, hope, love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands him, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries.
But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their edification and encouragement and comfort.
He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.
Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than he who speaks in tongues, unless some one interprets, so that the church may be edified.
But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking in tongues, what will I profit you unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching?
For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.
For you may be giving thanks well enough, but the other man is not edified.
but in the church I would rather speak five words with my mind, to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue.
Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; be infants in evil, but in thinking be mature.
Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers; but prophecy is for believers, not for unbelievers.
But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an outsider enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all;
But if there is no interpreter, he must keep silent in the church; and let him speak to himself and to God.
But if a revelation is made to another who is sitting, the first one must keep silent.
