They refused to obey his instructions. They did not keep the covenant he made with their ancestors. They disregarded his warnings. They worshiped worthless idols and became worthless themselves. They followed the customs of the surrounding nations, disobeying Jehovah's command not to imitate them.

Woe to the sinful nation, people heavy with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, sons who are corrupt! They have forsaken Jehovah! They have despised the Holy One of Israel. They have turned away from him.

Jeshurun (Israel) grew fat and disrespectful. You got fat! You were stuffed! You over eat! He abandoned the God who made him and scornfully treated the rock of his salvation. The person who sacrifices to any god except Jehovah must be condemned and destroyed.

When I bring them into the land flowing with milk and honey, which I swore to their fathers, and they have eaten and are satisfied and become prosperous, then they will turn to other gods and serve them, and spurn me and break my covenant.

He told the people an illustration: A man planted a vineyard. He rented it to tenants and went to another country for a long time. At harvest time he sent a servant to the renters to collect fruit of the vineyard. The renters beat him, and sent him away empty. A third servant was sent. They wounded him and threw him out. The owner of the vineyard said, what should I do? I will send my beloved son. Maybe they will respect him.
