teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live temperately, righteously, and godly in this present world;
as obedient sons, not conforming yourselves with the former desires that you had before in your ignorance, but as he who has called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; for it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
For it should suffice us that during the time past of our life we had done the will of the Gentiles, when we conversed in lasciviousness, lusts, drunkenness, gluttony, orgies, and abominable idolatries. And it seems strange to those that speak evil of you, that ye do not run with them to the same unchecked dissolution;
For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.
And now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, those whom thou hast given me, keep them in thy name, that they may be one, as we are.
Therefore as long as we have the opportunity, let us do good unto everyone, especially unto those who are of the household of faith.
