'Going' in the Bible
After they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Get up, take the child and his mother and flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to look for the child to kill him."
Then people from Jerusalem, as well as all Judea and all the region around the Jordan, were going out to him,
Going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in a boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. Then he called them.
As they were going away, a man who could not talk and was demon-possessed was brought to him.
Whenever they persecute you in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
While they were going away, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
After going out from there, Jesus went to the region of Tyre and Sidon.
When they gathered together in Galilee, Jesus told them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men.
As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve aside privately and said to them on the way,
"Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the experts in the law. They will condemn him to death,
Now as Jesus was going out of the temple courts and walking away, his disciples came to show him the temple buildings.
The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.'
"For it is like a man going on a journey, who summoned his slaves and entrusted his property to them.
Going a little farther, he threw himself down with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if possible, let this cup pass from me! Yet not what I will, but what you will."
But Peter was following him from a distance, all the way to the high priest's courtyard. After going in, he sat with the guards to see the outcome.
As they were going out, they found a man from Cyrene named Simon, whom they forced to carry his cross.
Then go quickly and tell his disciples, 'He has been raised from the dead. He is going ahead of you into Galilee. You will see him there.' Listen, I have told you!"
While they were going, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests everything that had happened.
People from the whole Judean countryside and all of Jerusalem were going out to him, and he was baptizing them in the Jordan River as they confessed their sins.
Going on a little farther, he saw James, the son of Zebedee, and John his brother in their boat mending nets.
Jesus was going through the grain fields on a Sabbath, and his disciples began to pick some heads of wheat as they made their way.
He said to them, "Come with me privately to an isolated place and rest a while" (for many were coming and going, and there was no time to eat).
There is nothing outside of a person that can defile him by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles him."
They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem. Jesus was going ahead of them, and they were amazed, but those who followed were afraid. He took the twelve aside again and began to tell them what was going to happen to him.
"Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and experts in the law. They will condemn him to death and will turn him over to the Gentiles.
Now as Jesus was going out of the temple courts, one of his disciples said to him, "Teacher, look at these tremendous stones and buildings!"
It is like a man going on a journey. He left his house and put his slaves in charge, assigning to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to stay alert.
Going a little farther, he threw himself to the ground and prayed that if it were possible the hour would pass from him.
But go, tell his disciples, even Peter, that he is going ahead of you into Galilee. You will see him there, just as he told you."
Jesus was going through the grain fields on a Sabbath, and his disciples picked some heads of wheat, rubbed them in their hands, and ate them.
"Take these words to heart, for the Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men."
Jesus replied, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him, beat him up, and went off, leaving him half dead.
Now by chance a priest was going down that road, but when he saw the injured man he passed by on the other side.
Woe to you experts in religious law! You have taken away the key to knowledge! You did not go in yourselves, and you hindered those who were going in."
As you are going with your accuser before the magistrate, make an effort to settle with him on the way, so that he will not drag you before the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison.
Another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going out to examine them. Please excuse me.'
Or what king, going out to confront another king in battle, will not sit down first and determine whether he is able with ten thousand to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand?
Then Jesus took the twelve aside and said to them, "Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished.
When he heard a crowd going by, he asked what was going on.
So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, because Jesus was going to pass that way.
While the people were listening to these things, Jesus proceeded to tell a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear immediately.
After Jesus had said this, he continued on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.
But we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. Not only this, but it is now the third day since these things happened.
So they approached the village where they were going. He acted as though he wanted to go farther,
Then the Jewish leaders said to him, "This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and are you going to raise it up in three days?"
The wind blows wherever it will, and you hear the sound it makes, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit."
While he was on his way down, his slaves met him and told him that his son was going to live.
(Now Jesus said this to test him, for he knew what he was going to do.)
Then Jesus, because he knew they were going to come and seize him by force to make him king, withdrew again up the mountainside alone.
(Now he said this about Judas son of Simon Iscariot, for Judas, one of the twelve, was going to betray him.)
You go up to the feast yourselves. I am not going up to this feast because my time has not yet fully arrived."
Then Jesus said, "I will be with you for only a little while longer, and then I am going to the one who sent me.
Then the Jewish leaders said to one another, "Where is he going to go that we cannot find him? He is not going to go to the Jewish people dispersed among the Greeks and teach the Greeks, is he?
(Now he said this about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were going to receive, for the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.)
Jesus answered, "Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true, because I know where I came from and where I am going. But you people do not know where I came from or where I am going.
Then Jesus said to them again, "I am going away, and you will look for me but will die in your sin. Where I am going you cannot come."
So the Jewish leaders began to say, "Perhaps he is going to kill himself, because he says, 'Where I am going you cannot come.'"
Jesus said to them, "I have shown you many good deeds from the Father. For which one of them are you going to stone me?"
The Jewish leaders replied, "We are not going to stone you for a good deed but for blasphemy, because you, a man, are claiming to be God."
The disciples replied, "Rabbi, the Jewish leaders were just now trying to stone you to death! Are you going there again?"
After he said this, he added, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep. But I am going there to awaken him."
Then the people who were with Mary in the house consoling her saw her get up quickly and go out. They followed her, because they thought she was going to the tomb to weep there.
(Now he did not say this on his own, but because he was high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the Jewish nation,
But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (the one who was going to betray him) said,
for on account of him many of the Jewish people from Jerusalem were going away and believing in Jesus.
(Now he said this to indicate clearly what kind of death he was going to die.)
Jesus replied, "The light is with you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness may not overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.
Because Jesus knew that the Father had handed all things over to him, and that he had come from God and was going back to God,
Then he came to Simon Peter. Peter said to him, "Lord, are you going to wash my feet?"
(For Jesus knew the one who was going to betray him. For this reason he said, "Not every one of you is clean.")
Children, I am still with you for a little while. You will look for me, and just as I said to the Jewish religious leaders, 'Where I am going you cannot come,' now I tell you the same.
Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, where are you going?" Jesus replied, "Where I am going, you cannot follow me now, but you will follow later."
There are many dwelling places in my Father's house. Otherwise, I would have told you, because I am going away to make ready a place for you.
Thomas said, "Lord, we don't know where you are going. How can we know the way?"
I tell you the solemn truth, the person who believes in me will perform the miraculous deeds that I am doing, and will perform greater deeds than these, because I am going to the Father.
"Lord," Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, "what has happened that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?"
You heard me say to you, 'I am going away and I am coming back to you.' If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.
But now I am going to the one who sent me, and not one of you is asking me, 'Where are you going?'
But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I am going away. For if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you, but if I go, I will send him to you.
concerning righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will see me no longer;
Then some of his disciples said to one another, "What is the meaning of what he is saying, 'In a little while you will not see me; again after a little while, you will see me,' and, 'because I am going to the Father'?"
I came from the Father and entered into the world, but in turn, I am leaving the world and going back to the Father."
Then Jesus, because he knew everything that was going to happen to him, came and asked them, "Who are you looking for?"
(This happened to fulfill the word Jesus had spoken when he indicated what kind of death he was going to die.)
Simon Peter told them, "I am going fishing." "We will go with you," they replied. They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
(Now Jesus said this to indicate clearly by what kind of death Peter was going to glorify God.) After he said this, Jesus told Peter, "Follow me."
Peter turned around and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them. (This was the disciple who had leaned back against Jesus' chest at the meal and asked, "Lord, who is the one who is going to betray you?")
So the saying circulated among the brothers and sisters that this disciple was not going to die. But Jesus did not say to him that he was not going to die, but rather, "If I want him to live until I come back, what concern is that of yours?"
As they were still staring into the sky while he was going, suddenly two men in white clothing stood near them
Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time for prayer, at three o'clock in the afternoon.
And a man lame from birth was being carried up, who was placed at the temple gate called "the Beautiful Gate" every day so he could beg for money from those going into the temple courts.
Now as they were going along the road, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, "Look, there is water! What is to stop me from being baptized?"
As he was going along, approaching Damascus, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.
On that very night before Herod was going to bring him out for trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, while guards in front of the door were keeping watch over the prison.
As Paul and Barnabas were going out, the people were urging them to speak about these things on the next Sabbath.
Now as we were going to the place of prayer, a slave girl met us who had a spirit that enabled her to foretell the future by supernatural means. She brought her owners a great profit by fortune-telling.
because he has set a day on which he is going to judge the world in righteousness, by a man whom he designated, having provided proof to everyone by raising him from the dead."
And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem without knowing what will happen to me there,
especially saddened by what he had said, that they were not going to see him again. Then they accompanied him to the ship.
