After two years had passed, Porcius Festus succeeded Felix, and because he wanted to do the Jews a favor, Felix left Paul in prison.
Because I was at a loss how I could investigate these matters, I asked if he were willing to go to Jerusalem and be tried there on these charges.
because you are especially familiar with all the customs and controversial issues of the Jews. Therefore I ask you to listen to me patiently.

The local inhabitants showed us extraordinary kindness, for they built a fire and welcomed us all because it had started to rain and was cold.
When Paul had gathered a bundle of brushwood and was putting it on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat and fastened itself on his hand.

First of all, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed throughout the whole world.

God publicly displayed him at his death as the mercy seat accessible through faith. This was to demonstrate his righteousness, because God in his forbearance had passed over the sins previously committed.

For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope, because who hopes for what he sees?
And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes on behalf of the saints according to God's will.

Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but (as if it were possible) by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone,
because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Granted! They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but fear!
Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath of the authorities but also because of your conscience.
