for he not only complyed with my exhortation, but being more than ordinarily concern'd, he voluntarily went to you;

with whom I have sent one of the brethren, who is not only distinguish'd among all the churches, by his preaching the gospel,

for the execution of this charitable office, does not only supply the necessities of the converts, but by the thanksgivings of many redounds also to the glory of God.

for I dare not rank or compare my self with some who vaunt themselves: but they making their self-conceit the only standard whereby to judge of themselves, show their want of judgment.

but tho' I don't know whether it was in the body, or out of the body, which God only knows,

who had only heard, that I, who formerly persecuted them, did now preach the gospel of faith, which I once endeavoured to suppress:

only they recommended to us to get collections for the poor in Judea: which I was very careful to do.

but it is just you should cultivate my affection for you upon all proper occasions, and not only when I am present with you.

for, brethren, you have been called to liberty. only abuse not this freedom as a pretext to vice, but in offices of love be as servants one to another.

they who desire to make a figure in the world, constrain you to be circumcised, only to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ.

far above all the principalities, all the powers, all the potentates, all the dominations, and whatever order can be named, not only in this age, but also in the age to come:

let no obscene language defile your mouth, use only such as tends to edification, that it may be beneficial to the hearers.

Now I would have you know, my brethren, that what has happen'd to me, has only conduc'd to the progress of the gospel;

only conduct yourselves in a manner becoming the gospel of Christ, that whether I come to see you, or else am absent, I may have this account of you, that you are stedfastly of the same resolution, and unanimously contend for the faith of the gospel,

for it is a favour bestowed upon you, that you not only believe on Christ, but suffer also for his sake,

let no man consult only his private interest, but let every man consult likewise the interest of others.

Wherefore, my beloved, as you have always obey'd the gospel, not only when I was with you, but much more now while I am absent, continue the work of your own salvation, whatever persecutions you apprehend:

but God had pity on him, and not on him only, but on me likewise, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.

Now I joyfully thank the Lord, that your concern for me has at length reviv'd. not that you wanted the disposition, but only the opportunity.

which is not only come to you, but to all the world; where it produces its effects, and increases, as it does also among you, ever since you sincerely embrac'd the divine favour,

for these were only the shadows of future things, prefiguring Christ, who is the substance.

servants, be entirely obedient to those, whom the laws have made your masters, and not meerly out of regard to their observation, as designing only to please men, but from a principle of integrity, as fearing God:

Jesus, who is called Justus, salutes you: these are the only Jews who by assisting me in preaching the gospel,

since the gospel we preach'd, did not consist only of words, but was fully confirm'd by miracles and gifts of the holy spirit, you yourselves being witnesses, what we did among you and for you.

for the gospel has made so favourable a progress not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every other place, where the reputation of your divine faith has spread, that 'tis needless to mention any thing of it; since they all relate of us,

this indeed you practise towards all our brethren in Macedonia; and we only exhort you to advance more and more therein:

to the king of the world, the immortal, invisible, and the only God be honour and glory to endless ages. amen.

exercise yourself in piety: for those exercises which relate only to the body are of little consequence, but piety is of absolute use, having the promises both of the present life, and of the life that is to come.

besides, having nothing to do, they get the habit of rambling from one house to another, and are not only idling, but prattle and intermeddle, and utter what is not decent.

mischievous opinions, and a familiarity with pernicious ignorant impostors, who consider religion only as it makes for their gain.

These things represent, conjuring them by the presence of the Lord, to avoid disputes about words, which only serve to pervert the audience.

in a palace there are vessels not only of gold, and of silver, but of wood and of earth likewise: some are for honourable uses, and others for meaner purposes.

decline all impertinent barren disputes, since they only serve for contention.

I have nothing more to do, but to receive the crown of virtue reserv'd for me, which the Lord, the just judge, will give me in that day: and not only to me, but to those also, who have long'd for his appearance.

only Luke is with me. take Mark and bring him with you; because he will be useful to me in the ministry.

not an high priest who is incapable of compassionating our miseries; since he was exposed to the same trials as we are, sin only excepted. let

such solid nourishment is only fit for such as are arriv'd at their full growth and strength, whose senses have been exercis'd in distinguishing what is good, and what is prejudicial.

for Christ is not entred into a sanctuary made by human art, such as is only representative of the true one, but into heaven itself, to appear from henceforth in the presence of God on our behalf:

For the law being only an allusion to a future dispensation that was more excellent, and not an exact imitation of such a state, cannot by the anniversary sacrifices, which are offered, entirely purify those that present themselves.

expecting the only event still remaining, the entire subjection of his enemies.

only wait but a little while, and he that is to come, will come without delay.

These all died in faith, without receiving what was promised, having only a distant view of what they eagerly expected, professing to live as strangers and pilgrims in the land.

of whom it was said, "only the descendants of Isaac shall be counted your posterity:"

whose voice then shook the earth: but he has promised to do it now, saying, " yet once more I will shake, not the earth only, but heaven too."

and this expression, yet once more" signifies the abolition of those changeable things which were only contriv'd, that what is unalterable might lastingly succeed.

Elias was only a man, as we are; however, having ardently prayed, that it might not rain, it did not rain in that country for three years and a half:

who was destin'd before the creation of the world, tho' 'tis of late only that he has appear'd, upon your account:

You that are servants, be subject to your masters with all reverence: not only to such as are kind and gentle,

those antient rebels in the time of Noah, when the divine forbearance waited, till the ark was quite finish'd, in which only eight persons were saved by means of the water.

since he did not spare the old world, having preserved only eight persons, including Noah, that preacher of virtue, when he brought the deluge upon the impious world:

he is the the victim that has expiated our sins: and not ours only, but likewise the sins of the whole world.

dear children, let no man deceive you: only he that acts justly is just, as he is just.
