"If I do honor to myself," answered Jesus, "such honor counts for nothing. It is my Father who does me honor--and you say that he is your God;
Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.
Such was their answer, because they were afraid of the Jews; for the Jews had already settled among themselves that if any one should acknowledge Jesus as the Christ, he should be excluded from the synagogue.
"We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if any one is God-fearing and does his will, to such he listens.
From the beginning of the world such a thing was never heard of as that any one should open the eyes of a man blind from his birth.
The Jews answered him saying, "For thy good works' sake we stone thee not: but for thy blasphemy, and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God."
Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
(It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)
Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus. So after he had heard that he was sick,
When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.
Then said Jesus to them plainly, Lazarus is dead. And I am glad for your sake I was not there, that ye may believe:
and I rejoice, for your sake, (that ye may believe,) that I was not there; but we may go to him;'
the Jews then who were with Mary in the house to comfort her, when they saw that she rose in such haste, and went out, followed her, saying, she is going to the grave to weep there.
And I know that you always hear me, but for the sake of the crowd standing around I said [it], so that they may believe that you sent me."
Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
because that for his sake many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.
Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written [Zech. 9:9],
His disciples did not understand these things at first, but after Jesus received splendor [in heaven], then they remembered that these things had been written about Him [in Scripture] and that people had done such things to Him.
Therefore met him the people, because they heard that he had done such a miracle.
"Now my heart is distressed; and what shall I say [i.e., to God]? 'Father, bring me safely through this time.' But, this is the reason I came [to earth]; to [go through] such a time.
Father, glorify your name!" Then there came a voice out of the sky, saying, "I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again."
Jesus answered and said, This voice hath not come for my sake, but for your sakes.
But though He had performed such great miracles in their presence, they did not believe in Him--
Such things said Isaiah when he saw his glory, and spake of him.
You call me 'The Rabbi' and 'The Master,' and rightly so, for such I am.
Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.
Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.
Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.
Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you such a long time, and do you not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father. How do you say, 'Show us the Father?'
Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.
I tell you, whoever believes in me will do such things as I do, and things greater yet, because I am going to the Father.
but the advocate, the holy spirit, whom the father will send for my sake, he will explain every thing to you, and make you remember, all that I have told you.
it was not you that chose me, but I that chose you, and establish'd you, that your travels may be fruitful, and your fruit be lasting: so that whatever ye shall ask of the father for my sake, he will give it you.
But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.
If I had not done among them, as I have, such miracles as no one else ever did, they would have had no sin; but they have in fact seen and also hated both me and my Father.
And such things will they do unto you, because they have not known the father, neither yet me.
But I have told you these things so that, when the time comes [for people to do such things], you will remember that I had warned you. I did not tell you them at the beginning [of my ministry] because I was with you [i.e., to protect you from persecution].
But because I have said such things unto you, your hearts are full of sorrow.
Jesus, therefore, knew that they were wishing to ask him, and he said to them, 'Concerning this do ye seek one with another, because I said, A little while, and you do not behold me, and again a little while, and ye shall see me?
And now no longer am I in this world, but these are in the world, and I am coming to thee. Holy Father! preserve them for thy name's sake whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?
Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.
Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:
When he said this, one of the police by his side gave him a blow with his open hand, saying, Do you give such an answer to the high priest?
Jesus replied,
After that Pilate began to seek to release him, but the Jews shouted out. "If you release this man you are no friend of the Emperor. Any man who makes himself out to be king is a rebel against the Emperor."
And they said one to another, "Let us not divide it: but cast lots who shall have it." That the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, 'They parted my raiment among them, and on my coat did cast lots.' And the soldiers did such things indeed.
And another Scripture says [Zech. 12:10], "People will look at him whom they [had] pierced."
Jesus saith to her, 'Woman, why dost thou weep? whom dost thou seek;' she, supposing that he is the gardener, saith to him, 'Sir, if thou didst carry him away, tell me where thou didst lay him, and I will take him away;'
Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken such things unto her.
And He said to them,
So Peter went to the boat and came back pulling the net to land, full of great fish, a hundred and fifty-three; and though there was such a number the net was not broken.
And Jesus did such a number of other things that, if every one was recorded, it is my opinion that even the world itself is not great enough for the books there would be.
And as they were staring into the sky [while] he was departing, behold, two men in white clothing stood by them
who also said, "Men {of Galilee}, why do you stand there looking into the sky? This Jesus who was taken up from you into heaven like this will come back in the same way you saw him departing into heaven!"
Suddenly there came from the sky a sound like the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under the sky.
‘And I will bring about wonders in the sky above
And signs (attesting miracles) on the earth below,
Blood and fire and smoking vapor.
And with more such words he gave his witness, offering them salvation and saying, Come out from this evil generation.

Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

Peter said to her, "How could both of you agree in such a way to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door; they will carry you out, too."
Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.
