but because of so much sexual immorality every man should have a wife of his own, and every woman a husband of her own. The husband must always give his wife what is due her, and the wife too must do so for her husband. You husbands and wives must stop refusing each other what is due, unless you agree to do so just for awhile, so as to have plenty of time for prayer, and then to be together again, so as to keep Satan from tempting you because of your lack of self-control. But I say this by way of concession, not by way of command. However, I should like for everyone to be just as I am myself, yet each of us has his own special gift from God, one for one way, another for another. To unmarried people and to widows I would say this: It would be a fine thing for them to remain single, as I am. But if they do not practice self-control, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to be burning in the fire of passion. To the people already married I give this instruction -- no, not I but the Lord -- that a wife is not to leave her husband. But if she does leave him, she must remain single, or better, be reconciled to her husband. I instruct the husband too not to divorce his wife. To the rest of the people I myself would say -- though the Lord Himself has said nothing about it -- if a Christian has a wife that is not a believer and she consents to live with him, he must not divorce her; and a woman who has a husband that is not a believer, but he consents to live with her, must not divorce her husband. For the unbelieving husband is consecrated by union with his wife and the unbelieving wife by union with her Christian husband, for otherwise your children would be unblessed, but in this way they are consecrated.

Ephesians 5:22-28

You married women must continue to live in subordination to your husbands, as you do to the Lord, for a husband is the head of his wife, just as Christ is the Head of the church, His body, and Saviour of it. This is the way married men ought to love their wives, as they do their own bodies. The married man who loves his wife is really loving himself,

1 Corinthians 7:1-3

Now I take up the matters about which you wrote me. It may be good thing for a man to remain unmarried; but because of so much sexual immorality every man should have a wife of his own, and every woman a husband of her own. The husband must always give his wife what is due her, and the wife too must do so for her husband.

1 Peter 3:1-6

You married women, in the same way, must be submissive to your husbands, so that, if any of them do not believe the message, they may be won over without a word through the living of the wives, when they see how chaste and respectful you are. Your adornments must be not of an external nature, with braids of hair or ornaments of gold, or changes of dress, read more.
but they must be of an internal nature, the character concealed in the heart, in the imperishable quality of a quiet and gentle spirit, which is of great value in the sight of God. For this is the way the pious women of olden times, who set their hope on God, used to adorn themselves. They were submissive to their husbands, as Sarah, for example, obeyed Abraham and called him master. You have become true daughters of hers, if you practice doing right and cease from every fear.

Romans 7:1-3

Do you not know, brothers -- for I speak to those who are acquainted with the law -- that the law can press its claim over a man only so long as he lives? For a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if her husband dies, she is freed from the marriage bond. So if she marries another man while her husband is living, she is called an adulteress, but if he dies, she is free from that marriage bond, so that she will not be an adulteress though later married to another man.

Mark 12:18-27

Then some Sadducees, who claim that there is no resurrection, came up to Him and asked Him this question, "Teacher, Moses gave us a law that if a man's brother died leaving a wife but no child, the man must marry the widow and raise up a family for his brother. There were once seven brothers. The eldest married a wife and on dying left no child, read more.
and the second married her and died leaving no child; and so did the third. And not one of the seven left a child. At last the woman died too. Now at the resurrection, which one's wife will she be? For all seven of them married her." Jesus said to them, "Does not this prove that you are wrong in your views, because you do not understand either the Scriptures or the power of God? For when people rise from the dead, men do not marry and women are not married, but continue to live together as the angels in heaven do. But as to the rising of the dead, did you never read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God said to him, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? He is not the God of dead but of living people! You are entirely wrong in your views."

Matthew 22:23-32

On the same day some Sadducees, who claim that there is no resurrection, came up to Him, and asked this question: "Teacher, Moses said, 'If a man dies without children, his brother must marry his widow and raise up a family for him.' Now there were seven brothers among us. The first married and died without children, and left his widow to his brother. read more.
The second also died, and the third, and all down to the seventh. Last of all, the woman died, too. Now at the resurrection which one's wife, of the seven, will she be? For they all married her." Jesus answered them, "You are wrong in your views, because you do not understand the Scriptures nor the power of God, for after the resurrection men do not marry and women are not married, but continue to live together as the angels do in heaven. But did you never read, on the resurrection of the dead, what God said to you, 'I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob!' Now God is not the God of dead but of living men."

Luke 20:27-38

Then some of the Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, came up and asked Him, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us a law that, if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife but no child, the man should take the widow and raise up a family for his brother. Now there were seven brothers. And the first brother married a wife and died childless. read more.
Then the second, and the third, married her; as also the seven did who died but left no child. Last of all, the woman died. Now at the resurrection which one's wife will the woman be? For the seven married her." Jesus said to them, "The people of this world marry and are married, but those who are considered worthy to attain that other world and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are married. For they cannot die again. They are like the angels, and since they are reborn in the resurrection, are children of God. But that the dead are raised, even Moses at the bush has demonstrated, when he calls the Lord 'the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' He is not the God of dead but of living people, for all live to Him."

1 Corinthians 7:25-38

About unmarried women I have no command from the Lord, but I will give you my opinion as of one who is trustworthy, since I have had mercy shown me by the Lord. Now this is my opinion in the light of the present distress: That it is a good thing for a man to remain as he is. Are you married? Stop trying to get a divorce. Are you unmarried? Stop looking for a wife. read more.
But if you do get married, you have not sinned in doing so. And if a girl gets married, she has not sinned in doing so. But those who do will have trouble in their earthly life, and I am trying to spare you this. I mean this, brothers. The time has been cut short. For the future, men who have wives should live as though they had none, and those that mourn as though they did not mourn, and those who are glad as though they were not glad, and those who buy as though they did not own a thing, and those who are enjoying the world as though they were not entirely absorbed in it. For the outward order of this world is passing away. I want you to be free from worldly worries. An unmarried man is concerned about the affairs of the Lord. A married man is concerned about the affairs of the world, and how he can please his wife, and so his devotion is divided. An unmarried woman or a girl is concerned about the affairs of the Lord, so as to be consecrated in body and spirit, but a married woman is concerned about the affairs of the world, and how she can please her husband.
