Beloved, I request that you as aliens and strangers abstain from fleshly lust (desires), which causes conflict in you.

You who love Jehovah hate evil! He preserves his anointed ones. He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked.

Guard your heart with all diligence for out of it come the source of life. Put away from you a deceitful mouth. Get rid of devious speech. Let your eyes look straight ahead. Let you own eyes gaze (be fixed) straight in front of you.read more.

Wake up to righteousness and do not sin. Some do not have knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

Now then it is no longer I that do it, but the sin that dwells in me. I know that good does not live in my human nature. For even though the desire to do good is in me, I am not able to do it. I do not do the good I want to do. Instead, I do the evil that I do not want to do. If I do what I do not want to do, this means that I am no longer the one who does it. So then I can serve God's law only with my mind, while my human nature serves the law of sin.

Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in his mighty strength. Put on the full armor (every implement) of God, that you may be able to stand against the cunning (inventive) (clever) methods of the devil. Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in heavenly places.read more.
For that reason, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore and gird your loins with truth. Put on the breastplate of righteousness. Shod your feet with the preparation of the good news of peace. Also take up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. He bore our sins in his body upon the stake, that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness. You were healed because of his wounds (stripes).

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. We died to sin! How could we any longer live in it? Or are you ignorant to the fact that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?read more.
We were buried therefore with him through baptism into death. Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, that we might walk in the newness of life. You were also circumcised in him with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ. You have been buried with him in baptism. You were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.

Whoever is born of God does not practice sin! His seed abides in him and he cannot sin because he has been born of God.

If any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: the old things have passed away. Behold, they have become new.

You have been given a new birth, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of God, which lives and endures.

Whoever abides in him does not sin. Whoever sins has not seen him and does not know him.

We know that no one who is born of God practices sin. He who was born from God watches over himself, and the evil one does not touch him.

My beloved, you have always obeyed, not just in my presence, but now much more in my absence. Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. It is God who works in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure.

Make your members that are upon the earth dead with regard to fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness (greed), which is idolatry.

Consider yourselves to be dead with reference to sin, but alive with reference to God through Christ Jesus. Let no sin rule in your mortal body, that you should obey the lustful desires. You are renewed in the spirit (vital principles) (attitude) of your mind (understanding). Put on the new man, that in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

You once walked in these when you lived in them. Now you also put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you got rid of the old self with its evil practices.read more.
You put on the new self that is being renewed to a true knowledge (full discernment) according to the image of the one who created him.

But you, O man of God, run from these things. Pursue (set your heart on) righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and meekness.

Flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, with those who call on the Lord with a clean heart.

Do not be conformed to this world (religious, social, political, and economic arrangement). But be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Prove what is the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God.

They who live according to flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh. They who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. The mind of sinful flesh (fleshly thought) means death; but the mind influenced by the Spirit gives life and peace. This is because the mind of the flesh is hostile toward God. I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh. Now the works of the flesh (sinful human nature) are apparent. Jesus was full of God's Holy Spirit when he returned from the Jordan. Holy Spirit led him into the wilderness. He spent forty days in the wilderness being tempted by the devil. God inspired all Scripture! It is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness. (Greek: theopneustos: God-breathed) Thus the man of God may be completely equipped for every good work.

Forgive us our sins. For we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And keep us from temptation.

Keep me from sinning. Do not let anyone gain control over me. Then I will be blameless, and I will be free from any great offense.

Watch and pray continually that you do not enter into temptation!

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to man. God is faithful and he will not allow you to be tempted beyond your limits. He will make a way out, that you will be able to endure it.

We do not have a high priest who is not able to sympathize with our infirmities (weaknesses). He was tested in all things like ourselves. Yet he was without sin! Let us approach the throne of grace (loving-kindness) with confidence, that we may receive mercy, and find grace for help in time of need.

I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. You once presented your members as servants to uncleanness and to sin. Now you present your members as servants to righteousness and sanctification (purification) (holiness).

Turn away from evil, and do good. Seek peace, and pursue it!

Wash yourselves! Become clean! Get your evil deeds out of my sight. Stop doing evil. Learn to do good (well) (right). Seek justice. Correct oppressors. Defend orphans. Plead the case of widows.

Seek good and not evil, that you may live. Jehovah, the God of Hosts, will be with you, as you have said. Hate evil, and love good! Establish justice in the gate. It may be that Jehovah, the God of Hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

Abstain from all appearance of evil.

Sin is atoned by loving kindness and truth. Respect for Jehovah keeps one away from evil.

Moses responded: Do not be afraid. God has only come to test you and to inspire you to obey him, so that you will not sin.

Do not think you are wise enough. Respect Jehovah and turn away from evil.

Respect for Jehovah means to hate evil. I hate: pride, and arrogance, the evil way, and the perverse mouth.

Be holy in all your conduct, just as the one who called you is holy. Because it is written: You shall be holy for I am holy.

The reason is because I am Jehovah your God. You must live holy lives. Consecrate yourselves and be holy because I am holy. Never become unclean by touching anything that swarms or crawls on the ground. I am Jehovah! I brought you out of Egypt to be your God. Be holy because I am holy.
