does a Jew turn Christian? let him not pretend to be uncircumcised: does a Gentile turn Christian? let him not become circumcised.

if any man thinks it would be a reflexion upon his manhood to be a stale batchelor, and so ought to marry; let him follow his bent, he is at liberty, let such marry.

but if a man love God, the same is taught by him.

yet to us there is but one God, the father, from whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

neither let us provoke Christ as some of them provoked him, and were destroyed by serpents.

wherefore let him that thinks he stands firm, take heed lest he fall.

every man who prays or prophesies having his head covered, dishonoureth him who is his head: but every woman who prays

Let a man then sift and approve himself, and accordingly let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

and if any one is press'd with hunger, let him eat at home; that ye may not otherwise meet with punishment. as for other matters, I will set them in order when I come.

therefore if I don't know the meaning of the language, with respect to him that speaks, I shall be a barbarian; and he that speaks shall be a barbarian to me.

wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue, pray for the gift of interpretation.

but if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and tacitly address himself to God.

if any one pretends to be a prophet, or to spiritual gifts, let him be assured that the rules which I have here prescrib'd, are the commandments of the Lord.

but if he will be blind, I leave him to his blindness.

yea, and we are no better than enthusiastic impostors by affirming that God raised up Christ, when he never did raise him up.

for he hath subjected all things to him. but when it is said all things are subjected, it is plain that he is to be excepted, who did subject all things to him.

and when all things shall be reduced under subjection to him, then shall the son also himself be subject to him that put all things under his subjection, that God may be all in all.

let no man therefore despise him: but conduct him safe, that he may come to me: for I and the brethren expect him.

as to brother Apollos, I earnestly entreat him to make you a visit, with the brethren: but he has not the least mind to it at present; however, he will be with you when a fit occasion offers.

If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be accurst.

and he did deliver me from so terrible a death, and on him I have relied for further deliverance: especially,

for all the promises of God do center in him, and are verifyed by him to the glory of God by our preaching.

so that now you ought rather to forgive, and comfort him, for fear he should be overwhelm'd by an excess of sorrow.

wherefore, pray, convince him of your affection to him:

for the spiritual meaning of the law centers in him, and the spirit of the law is gospel-liberty:

wherefore I studiously endeavour, whether staying in it, or departing out of it, to be acceptable to him.

Shall I then, who know this terrible judgment of the Lord, endeavour to appease men? as for God, I am approved by him, and I trust also you are convinced of my being so approved.

that they who are in a state of life should not live at their own discretion, but to the service of him who died for them, and rose again.

for he hath made him who knew no sin to be a sin-offering for us, that we might be justified by God thro' him.

but by the consolation I received from you by him, when he acquainted me with your earnest desire to see me, with your concern, and your zeal for me; which greatly increas'd my joy.

wherefore, my writing to you so severely did not proceed from any prejudice to him, that had done the wrong, or from favour to him that suffered wrong, but to show my conscientious regard to your welfare.

so that I am not ashamed of the commendations I have formerly given you to him; but as I have always preached the truth to you, so in my commendation to Titus, I have said nothing but truth of you.

and his affection to you is abundantly increased, whilst he remembers your obedience, and that fear and reverence with which you all received him.

Do ye judge of things by the outward appearance? if any man is confident in himself, that he is Christ's, let him from himself conclude too, that as he is Christ's, even so are we.

but he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

I besought the Lord thrice, to make him leave me.

I desired Titus, and with him I sent a brother: did Titus make a gain of you? didn't we follow the same principles, and take the same measures?

for tho' he was crucified with the appearance of weakness, yet he lives by the power of God; tho' we are afflicted upon his account, we shall live with him by the power of God toward you.

Paul an apostle (not from men, nor by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the father who raised him from the dead) and all the brethren,

but tho' I, or an angel from heaven should preach any thing to you for gospel, different from the gospel I have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

as I said before, so say I now again, if any one preach any other thing to you for gospel, than what you have received, let him be accursed.

that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not thereupon apply my self to any man;

After three years, I went up to Jerusalem, to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days:

But when Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, for he was to be blamed.

and the rest of the Jews dissembled likewise with him, insomuch that Barnabas himself was carried away with their hypocrisy.

yet knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in him, and not by the works of the law, by which there is no justification.

As Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness:

or rather that you are favoured by him, how can ye turn again to the weak and beggarly elements of the law, to which you desire again to be in bondage?

but as then, he that was born in the ordinary course of nature, persecuted him, who was born by an extraordinary power; even so it is now.

this opinionativeness does not come from him that called you.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, do you, who are spiritual, restore him with all gentleness, taking heed lest you yourselves be overcome by temptation.

Let him that is instructed in the word freely communicate his good things to him that teaches him.

It is by him, that we have a share in the inheritance, which was before allotted to us, in consequence of his design, who executes the whole plan, as he himself had contriv'd it:

by whom you also have heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: and having believed in him, ye were mark'd with the seal of the holy spirit, which was promised:

that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the father of glory, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, whereby ye may know him:

which he exerted in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at the head of his heavenly kingdom,

for he has subjected all things to him, and constituted him supreme head of the church,

for thro' him both of us have access by the same spirit to the father.

by whom we have freedom of access to God, with confidence, by faith in him.

Now unto him that is able to do infinitely above what we ask or comprehend, by his power operating in us,

unto him be glory in the church, even by Christ Jesus, thro' all the successions of future ages. amen.

if you have heard of him, and have been taught the truth as he preach'd it:

let him that stole, steal no more: but rather let him labour, to encrease his fortune with his own hands, that he may have wherewithal to relieve the needy:

and you masters have a just regard to them, by softning your authority: knowing that both their and your master is in heaven, where there is no respect of persons with him.

I have sent him to you on purpose to acquaint you with our concerns, and to comfort your hearts.

and the favour I ask of him is this, that your kindness to me may be crown'd with farther improvements in knowledge and all prudence;

wherefore God has highly exalted and given him a name, which is above every name;

I hope therefore to send him to you as soon as I find what turn my affairs shall take:

but God had pity on him, and not on him only, but on me likewise, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.

I sent him therefore with the greater dispatch, that I might have the less disquietude, by the satisfaction you will find in seeing him again.

receive him then in the Lord with all alacrity, and let such be the objects of your esteem:

that your conduct may be worthy of the Lord, in every respect agreeable to him, being friutful in every kind of virtue, and increasing in divine knowledge:

It is by him, that we have obtain'd the redemption, even the remission of our sins:

for by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are on earth, both visible and invisible, the thrones, and the sovereigntys, the principalitys, and the powers: all were created by him, and for him: he is before all things,

and by him all things consist.

being firmly attach'd to, and founded upon him: establishing yourselves in the faith you have been taught, and being thankful for the improvement you make therein.

for in him all divine plenitude does substantially reside.

and ye are filled by him, who is the chief of all principality and power:

which were buried (as Christ was) in your baptism, by virtue of which you rise (as he did) to a new life, through a belief of that divine power, which raised him from the dead.

Christ is your life, and when he shall appear, then shall you also appear with him in glory.

improv'd by knowledge into a resemblance of him, who made this change:

let your discourse and your actions be all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the father by him.

knowing that as you are the servants of Christ our Lord, you shall receive from him the inheritance for your reward.

As to what relates to me, you will be inform'd of it by Tychicus my dear brother, who is a faithful minister of the Lord, and serves him with me.

I sent him on purpose to acquaint you with my circumstances, and give you matter of comfort.

I have sent him with Onesimus a faithful and beloved brother, who is of your city: they will inform you of what passes here.

Aristarchus my companion in bonds salutes you. and so does Mark, nephew to Barnabas, for whom you have receiv'd recommendations. if he come to you, give him a kind reception.

the whole will of God. for I can witness for him, that he is ardently concern'd for you, and the christians of Laodicea,

whilst night and day we make our ardent requests to him, that we may once more be present with you, that nothing may be wanting to the perfection of your faith?

for if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we must believe that God by Jesus will raise the dead, and assemble them with him.

that whether we happen to be alive or dead, we may be secure of living with him.

that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified by you, and you by him, by the favour of our God, and of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Now we conjure you, brethren, that with respect to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our being assembled with him,

and then the lawless will be discover'd, whom the Lord will extirpate by the spirit of his mouth, and at his glorious advent, will intirely abolish him,

and if any one should disregard what we have prescrib'd, signify it to us by letter, and don't converse with him, that he may be put to shame.

however, don't treat him as an enemy, but reprove him as a brother.

however I obtained mercy, that Jesus Christ might demonstrate the greatness of his clemency, by making me an eminent instance of it to those who should hereafter believe in him, in order to eternal life.

Don't treat a senior with harsh reproof, but exhort him as a father, and the young men, as brethren:

yet I am not ashamed, for I know in whom I have confided, and I am persuaded he is able to keep what I have committed to him against that day.

the Lord grant he may obtain mercy from him in that day, for you know very well what services de did me at Ephesus.
