I will give hearing to your cause, he said, when those who are against you have come. And he gave orders for him to be kept in Herod's Praetorium.
commanding his accusers to appear before thee: whereby thou mayest thyself be able after examination to know the certainty of those things whereof we accuse him.
But I confess, this, unto thee, - That, according to the Way which they call a Sect, so, I am rendering divine service unto my father's God, believing in all the things which, throughout the law, and those which, in the prophets, are written:
I have a hope in God that there will be a resurrection both for those who have done right and those who have done wrong, just as the Jews themselves also expect.
Therefore those able among you -- saith he -- having come down together, if there be anything in this man -- let them accuse him;'
If then I am a wrong-doer, and have committed anything worthy of death, I refuse not to die; but if none of those things is true whereof these accuse me, no man can give me up unto them. I appeal unto Caesar.
To whom I gave answer that it is not the Roman way to give a man up, till he has been face to face with those who are attacking him, and has had a chance to give an answer to the statements made against him.
concerning whom his accusers standing by, brought no evil charge of those things which I supposed:
And Festus said, King Agrippa, and all those who are present here with us, you see this man, about whom all the Jews have made protests to me, at Jerusalem and in this place, saying that it is not right for him to be living any longer.
And Paul, stretching forth his hand, made his defence. I think myself happy, King Agrippa, that I am this day to make my defence before thee, concerning all those things whereof I am accused by the Jews,
what course of life I led at Jerusalem, where I was brought up from my youth among those of my own nation, is known to all the Jews.
King Agrippa, while on the road at midday, I saw a light from heaven brighter than the sun, shining around me and those traveling with me.
But rise and stand upon thy feet; for, to this end, have I appeared unto thee, - To appoint thee an attendant and a witness, both of the things as to which thou hast seen me, and of those as to which I will appear unto thee:
and of those in which I will appear to thee, Delivering thee from the people,
Instead, I preached to those in Damascus first, and to those in Jerusalem and in all the region of Judea, and to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works worthy of repentance.
So then, having met with, the help that is from God, until this day, do I stand, witnessing to both small and great, nothing else saying, than those things which both the prophets, and Moses, did say should certainly come to pass: -
that the Christ should suffer, and that, as first of those raised from the dead, he was to proclaim light both to the people and to the gentiles.
and Paul said, 'I would have wished to God, both in a little, and in much, not only thee, but also all those hearing me to-day, to become such as I also am -- except these bonds.'
So the king, the governor, Bernice, and those sitting with them got up,
And having embarked on an Adramyttium ship, about to sail to those places along Asia, we set sail; Aristarchus, the Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.
And sailing slowly in those days, and scarcely being by Cnidus, the wind not permitting us [to proceed in a direct course] we sailed under Crete, by Salmone,
Much time had been lost, and because navigation had become dangerous and the day of fasting had already past, Paul began to warn those on the ship,
Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.
And, because the harbor was not suitable for staying in all winter, most of those on board were in favor of putting out to sea from there. They were hoping to reach Phoenix, [another] harbor on [the island of] Crete, which faced northwest and southwest, and [then] to spend the winter there.
and said, ‘Don’t be afraid, Paul. You must stand before Caesar. And, look! God has graciously given you all those who are sailing with you.’
But the centurion kept them from carrying out their plan because he wanted to save Paul, so he ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and get to land.
Among the estates about that place were those of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius, who took us to his house, and, for three days, entertained us kindly.
After this, the rest of those on the island who had diseases also came and were cured.
who also honored us with many honors; and conferred on us, departing, those things appertaining to use.
And it came to pass, after three days, that he called together those who were the chief of the Jews; and, when they came together, he began to say unto them - I, brethren, though I had done nothing against the people, or the customs of our fathers, as a prisoner, out of Jerusalem, was delivered into the hands of the Romans;
and Paul remained an entire two years in his own hired house, and was receiving all those coming in unto him,
Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him.
including you who have been called to belong to Jesus Christ??7 to all those in Rome whom God loves, who are called to be his people; God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ bless you and give you peace.
To all those in Rome who are loved by God, called [to be] saints. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
I have a debt to Greeks and to the nations outside; to the wise and to those who have no learning.
so that as far as depends upon me I am ready also to preach the gospel to those at Rome.
For God's wrath is being revealed from heaven against all the ungodliness and wickedness of those who in their wickedness suppress the truth.
For from the first making of the world, those things of God which the eye is unable to see, that is, his eternal power and existence, are fully made clear, he having given the knowledge of them through the things which he has made, so that men have no reason for wrongdoing:
Because of this, God gave them over to degrading passions, for their females exchanged the natural relations for those contrary to nature,
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
Although they know full well God’s just sentence—that those who practice such things deserve to die
We know that God’s judgment on those who do such things is based on the truth.
Do you really think—anyone of you who judges those who do such things yet do the same—that you will escape God’s judgment?
who will render to every man according to his actions: eternal life to those,
eternal life
but wrath and indignation to those who are self-seeking
All those who sinned without the law
For [it is] not those who hear the law of Moses who are right with God, but [it is] those who obey [the requirements of] that law [perfectly] who will be considered right with God.
For when those of the nations, which have no law, practise by nature the things of the law, these, having no law, are a law to themselves;
and if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light to those in darkness,
an instructor of those who lack wisdom, a teacher of babes, having the form of knowledge and of the truth in the Law,
If those who have not circumcision keep the rules of the law, will it not be credited to them as circumcision?
So, will not those physically uncircumcised people [i.e., the Gentiles], who obey the law, condemn you [Jews] for breaking the law, even though you have the written code and [practice] circumcision?
Why not (as we are slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say), "Let us do evil, that good may come?" Those who say so are justly condemned.
What then? Are we [Jews] any better off [than those Gentiles]? No, not at all, for we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks [i.e., Gentiles] alike are under [the power of] sin,
And we have known that as many things as the law saith, to those in the law it doth speak, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may come under judgment to God;
and the righteousness of God is through the faith of Jesus Christ to all, and upon all those believing, -- for there is no difference,
For God showed him publicly dying as a sacrifice of reconciliation to be taken advantage of through faith. This was to vindicate his own justice (for in his forbearance, God passed over men's former sins)??26 to vindicate his justice at the present time, and show that he is upright himself, and that he makes those who have faith in Jesus upright also.
with a view to demonstrating, at the present time, His righteousness, that He may be shown to be righteous Himself, and the giver of righteousness to those who believe in Jesus.
since God [is] one, who will justify {those who are circumcised} by faith and {those who are uncircumcised} through faith.
So David himself says of the happiness of those to whom God credits uprightness without any reference to their actions,
and whose sins are covered!
Therefore, [is] this blessing for {those who are circumcised}, or also for {those who are uncircumcised}? For we say, "Faith was credited to Abraham for righteousness."
and a sign he did receive of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith in the uncircumcision, for his being father of all those believing through uncircumcision, for the righteousness also being reckoned to them,
and father of circumcision to those not of circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of the faith, that is in the uncircumcision of our father Abraham.
If those who are of the law are heirs,
This is why the promise is by faith, so that it may be according to grace,
(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
but also for the sake of us to whom it is going to be credited, to those who believe in the one who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,
but the death did reign from Adam till Moses, even upon those not having sinned in the likeness of Adam's transgression, who is a type of him who is coming.
for if by the offence of the one the death did reign through the one, much more those, who the abundance of the grace and of the free gift of the righteousness are receiving, in life shall reign through the one -- Jesus Christ.
Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
What fruit, therefore, had ye then - in things for which ye now are taking shame to yourselves? For, the end of those things, is death.
Are ye ignorant, brethren -- for to those knowing law I speak -- that the law hath lordship over the man as long as he liveth?
For when we were in the flesh the passions of sins, those by the law, were energetic in our members to bring forth fruit to death.
Therefore, no condemnation
For the Holy Spirit's law which provides [never ending] life for those in [fellowship with] Christ Jesus has freed me from the law that requires [spiritual] death for sinning.
so that the justice of the law might be fulfilled in us, those who walk not according to flesh, but according to Spirit.
For those who live
Those who are in the flesh
All those led by God’s Spirit
and not only they, but even those who have the first fruits of the spirit, even we our selves do inwardly groan for the fruit of our adoption, by the deliverance of our body from corruption.
The spirit likewise softens our afflictions: for being at a loss to apply for the most proper relief; the spirit it self affects us with those pious ejaculations, which we can't well express.
We know that all things work together
For those He foreknew He also predestined
And those He predestined, He also called; and those He called, He also justified;
Who can bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who declared them in right standing;
For I am assured that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor those to come,
But [it is] not as if the word of God had failed. For not all those [who are descended] from Israel [are truly] Israel,
That is, it is not Abraham's natural descendants who are God's children, but those who are made children by the promise are counted his true descendants.
if the divine Being has patiently bore with those objects of his displeasure, that had been working out their own destruction, why may he not reveal himself to make them feel his vindictive power,
As he also says in Hosea, "I will call those [who were] not my people, 'My people,' and those [who were] not loved, 'Loved.'
And in regard to Israel, Isaiah exclaims. Though the number of the sons of Israel be like the sands of the sea, it is but a remnant of those who shall be saved;
For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.
for there is no difference between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord of all is rich to all those calling upon Him,
And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful
But I ask, “Did Israel not understand?” First, Moses said:
of those who are not a nation;
I will make you angry by a nation
that lacks understanding.
And Isaiah says boldly:
by those who were not looking for Me;
I revealed Myself
to those who were not asking for Me.
What then? That which Israel was searching for he did not get, but those of the selection got it and the rest were made hard.
