At Iconium too they went to the Jewish synagogue and spoke in such a way that a great number of both Jews and Greeks came to believe.
Having got news of it, they went in flight to the towns of Lycaonia, Lystra, and Derbe, and the country round about:
Said in a loud voice, Get up on your feet. And, jumping up, he went walking about.
And they went on to call Barnabas, Jupiter, and Paul, Mercury, seeing that, he, was the leader of discourse.
But when this came to the ears of the Apostles, Paul and Barnabas, they went running out among the people, parting their clothing, and crying out,
But the disciples formed a circle about him, and he got up and went back to town. The next day he went on with Barnabas to Derbe.
As they were proclaiming the good news in that city, they discipled a large number of people. Then they went back to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch,
Then they passed through Pisidia and went down to Pamphylia,
and after telling their message in Perga, they went on to Attalia,
And from there they went by ship to Antioch, where they had been handed over to the grace of God for the work which they had not done.
They, therefore, being sent forward by the church, went to Phenicia and Samaria, relating the conversion of the gentiles, and caused great joy to all the brothers.
Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:
So the messengers were sent out, and they went down to Antioch, called a meeting of the congregation, and delivered the letter.
But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.
And there was a sharp argument between them, so that they were parted from one another, and Barnabas took Mark with him and went by ship to Cyprus;
and Paul having chosen Silas, went forth, having been given up to the grace of God by the brethren;
And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.
Now he went to Derbe and Lystra too. At Lystra there was a disciple named Timothy, whose mother was a Christian Jewess, but his father was a Greek.
And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.
So the Churches went on gaining a stronger faith and growing in numbers from day to day.
Because they had been prevented by the Holy Spirit from speaking the word in Asia, Paul and Timothy went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia.
they went on to Mysia and tried to get into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not permit them.
So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas.
Sailing from Troas, we went straight to Samothrace, the next day to Neapolis,
From there we went on to Philippi, a Roman colony, the leading town in that part of Macedonia. In this town we stayed some days.
On the sabbath we went outside the gate, to the bank of the river, where we supposed there was a place of prayer, and we sat down and began to talk with the women who had met there.
And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
And when her masters saw that the hope of their gain went out, having seized Paul and Silas, they dragged them to the market before the rulers.
At midnight Paul and Silas went to prayers, and sang praises to God, which the other prisoners heard:
And he sent for lights and came rushing in and, shaking with fear, went down on his face before Paul and Silas,
and came, and besought them, and, leading them out, went on to request them to depart from the city.
After getting out of jail, they went to Lydia's house; they saw the brothers and encouraged them, and then left town.
Then, passing through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they went to Thessalonica. Here there was a synagogue of the Jews.
So Paul, as he usually did, went to the synagogue, and for three sabbaths discussed with them the Scriptures,
That night at once the brothers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea, and on arriving there they went to the Jewish synagogue.
But when the Jewish leaders in Thessalonica found out that the word of God had been proclaimed by Paul also in Berea, they went there to upset and incite the crowds.
The men who acted as Paul's bodyguard took him all the way to Athens, and then went back with orders for Silas and Timothy to come to him as soon as possible.
For as I went around and observed closely your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: 'To an unknown god.' Therefore what you worship without knowing it, this I proclaim to you.
and so Paul went forth from the midst of them,
After this he left Athens and went to Corinth.
There he found a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla because Claudius had ordered all the Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to visit them,
and, because they followed the same trade of tentmaking, he stayed with them and went to work [for them].
And having departed thence, he went to the house of a certain one, by name Justus, a worshipper of God, whose house was adjoining the synagogue,
So for a year and a half he settled down among them and went on teaching God's message.
And Paul, after waiting some days, went away from the brothers and went by ship to Syria, Priscilla and Aquila being with him; and he had had his hair cut off in Cenchrea, for he had taken an oath.
Then they came to Ephesus, and Paul left them there. He went into the synagogue and had a discussion with the Jews.
And went from them, saying, I will come back to you if God lets me; and he took ship from Ephesus.
When he reached Caesarea, he went up to Jerusalem and greeted the church there; then he went down to Antioch.
And after he had spent some time there, he departed, and went over all the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.
While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul went through the inland regions and came to Ephesus. He found some disciples there
He went to the synagogue there and for three months courageously spoke, keeping up his discussions and continuing to persuade them about the kingdom of God.
But because some of the people were hard-hearted and would not give hearing, saying evil words about the Way before the people, he went away from them, and kept the disciples separate, reasoning every day in the school of Tyrannus.
This went on for two years, so that everybody living in the province of Asia, Greeks as well as Jews, heard the Lord's message.
as an instrument that the people carried off to the sick, towels or aprons used by him, and at their touch they were cured of their diseases, and the evil spirits went out of them.
Then some Jews who went around trying to drive out demons attempted to use the name of the Lord Jesus on those who had evil spirits, saying, "I command you by that Jesus whom Paul preaches!"
And the man in whom the evil spirit was, jumping on them, was stronger than the two of them, and overcame them, so that they went running from that house, wounded and without their clothing.
So the Lord's message went on growing wonderfully in influence and power.
And having sent two of his helpers, Timothy and Erastus, into Macedonia, he himself went on living in Asia for a time.
About that time there occurred no small disturbance concerning the Way (Jesus, Christianity).
But as soon as they saw that he was a Jew, a shout went up from them all as the shout of one man, lasting for two hours: "Great Artemis of Ephesus!"
And after the ceasing of the tumult, Paul having called near the disciples, and having embraced them, went forth to go on to Macedonia;
He passed through those districts and by continuing to talk to them encouraged the people. He then went on to Greece
And Sopater of Beroea, the son of Pyrrhus, and Aristarchus and Secundus of Thessalonica, and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy, and Tychicus and Trophimus of Asia, went with him as far as Asia.
They went on to Troas and waited there for us,
And we went away from Philippi by ship after the days of unleavened bread, and came to them at Troas in five days; and we were there for seven days.
On the first day of the week, when we had met to break bread, Paul began to address the people. Since he intended to leave the next day, he went on speaking until midnight.
and a young man named Eutychus, who was sitting by the window, was gradually overcome by heavy drowsiness, as Paul kept speaking longer and longer, and at last he went fast asleep and fell from the third story to the ground and was picked up dead.
But Paul went down and fell on him and embraced him, and said, "Stop being alarmed, his life is still in him."
So he went back upstairs, and broke the bread and ate with them, and after talking with them extendedly, even till daylight, he left them.
And we went before to ship, and sailed unto Assos, there intending to take in Paul: for so had he appointed, minding himself to go afoot.
When he met us in Assos, we took him on board and went to Mitylene.
Sailing thence on the following day we arrived off Chios; next day we crossed over to Samos, and [after stopping at Trogyllium] we went on next day to Miletus.
And now I know that none of you among whom I went about preaching the kingdom will ever see my face again.
And having said these words, he went down on his knees in prayer with them all.
(44:37) because they were especially pained at his saying that they would never see his face again. Then they went down to the ship with him.
There we found a ship bound for Phoenicia, and so we went aboard and sailed away.
And when we had come in view of Cyprus, going past it on our left, we went on to Syria, and came to land at Tyre: for there the goods which were in the ship had to be taken out.
But when our time was up, we left there and went on, and all of them with their wives and children accompanied us out of town. There we knelt down on the beach and prayed;
there we bade one another goodbye, and we went aboard the ship, while they went back.
Having completed our voyage from Tyre we went to Ptolemais, and having saluted the brothers continued with them one day.
The next day we left there and went on to Caesarea, where we went to the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the Seven, and stayed with him.
And after those days we took up our carriages, and went up to Jerusalem.
Some of the disciples from Caesarea went with us and took us to the house of Mnason, a man from Cyprus, one of the early disciples, to spend the night.
On the next day we went with Paul to see James, and all the elders of the church came too.
And, saluting them, he went on to narrate, one by one, each of the things which God had wrought among the nations through his ministry.
Then Paul took the men along with him and on the next day went into the temple with them, purified, and announced the time when the purification would be completed, when the sacrifice for each one of them could be offered.
