Then Jesus, when he saw her weeping and the Jews who came with her weeping, was deeply moved in spirit and was troubled within himself.
and troubled himself, And said, Where have ye laid him?
Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone lay against it.
Now this he said not of himself: but, being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation;
(He said this, not because he had any love for the poor; but because he was a thief, and, having the money-bag, took for himself what was put into it.)
Having found a young ass, Jesus seated himself on it, in accordance with the passage of Scripture--
while ye have the light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. after having said these things, Jesus retir'd, and conceal'd himself from them.
With these words Jesus went away and hid himself from them. But although he had wrought such signs in their presence, still they did not believe in him.
riseth from supper, and layeth aside his garments; and he took a towel, and girded himself.
Then he poured water into the washbasin and began to wash the feet of the disciples, and to wipe [them] dry with the towel {which he had tied around himself}.
Jesus saith unto him - He that hath bathed himself, hath no need save as to the feetto get washed; but is pure, as a whole. And, ye, are, pure, but not ye, all.
So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and placed himself again at the table, he said to them, Know ye what I have done to you?
as God is glorified by him, so God will glorify him in himself, and will immediately glorify him.
Do you not believe that I am in union with the Father and that the Father is in union with me? I am not saying these things on my own authority, but the Father who always remains in union with me is doing these things Himself.
I most solemnly say to you, whoever perseveres in believing in me can himself do the things that I am doing; yes, he can do even greater things than I am doing, because I am going to the Father.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send to represent me, will teach you everything Himself, and cause you to remember everything that I have told you.
If a man does not keep himself in me, he becomes dead and is cut off like a dry branch; such branches are taken up and put in the fire and burned.
and when He may come -- the Spirit of truth -- He will guide you to all the truth, for He will not speak from Himself, but as many things as He will hear He will speak, and the coming things He will tell you;
for the Father himself doth love you, because me ye have loved, and ye have believed that I from God came forth;
These things having said, Jesus went forth with his disciples beyond the brook of Kedron, where was a garden, into which he entered, himself and his disciples,
Simon Peter followed along with another disciple. [Note: Some think this refers to the apostle John himself, but there is no strong evidence in favor of that conclusion]. Now that disciple was [well-] known to the head priest, so was able to enter his courtyard with Jesus
and the servants and the officers were standing, having made a fire of coals, because it was cold, and they were warming themselves, and Peter was standing with them, and warming himself.
Upon his expressing himself thus, one of the officers there present, struck Jesus on the face, saying, answerest thou the high priest so?
And Simon Peter was standing and warming himself, they said then to him, 'Art thou also of his disciples?' he denied, and said, 'I am not.'
Then Pilate entred into the Pretorium, and addressing himself to Jesus, said to him, are not you the king of the Jews?
the Jews answered him, 'We have a law, and according to our law he ought to die, for he made himself Son of God.'
From this time was Pilate seeking to release him, and the Jews were crying out, saying, 'If this one thou mayest release, thou art not a friend of Caesar; every one making himself a king, doth speak against Caesar.'
So when these words came to Pilate's ear, he took Jesus out, seating himself in the judge's seat in a place named in Hebrew, Gabbatha, or the Stone Floor.
They took Jesus therefore: and he went out, bearing the cross for himself, unto the place called The place of a skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha:
Then they came to Jesus Himself: but when they saw that He was already dead, they refrained from breaking His legs.
And he that saw it bore witness, and we know that his testimony is true: and he himself is conscious that he speaketh what is true, that ye might believe.
Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, went inside too, and he saw for himself and was convinced.
After this, Jesus revealed
That disciple, therefore, whom Jesus was loving saith to Peter, 'The Lord it is!' Simon Peter, therefore, having heard that it is the Lord, did gird on the outer coat, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea;
Now this was the third time that Jesus let himself be seen by the disciples after he had come back from the dead.
After He had suffered, He also presented Himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during 40 days and speaking about the kingdom of God.
(Now this man, with the reward of his evil-doing, got for himself a field, and falling head first, came to a sudden and violent end there.
For it was not David who ascended into the heavens, but he himself says:
‘Sit at My right hand
